1983 Z28, LU5, 5 Speed For Sale

I'll spare you guys all of the "I hate to sell it" stuff, but I truly do hate to sell it. I simply have no room and too many cars and something must go.

For those who haven't been following my threads on this car, I've owned it since 2008. It's a solid, clean, rust free original paint car. I consider it as more or less a tribute car to if GM had gotten serious about CFI performance in the 3rd gen. I had always wanted to find a clean LU5 car and add a free flowing, period correct exhaust and T5. And that's pretty much what I did here.

I've tried to use original, AC Delco or period correct pieces wherever possible. Even the shifter ball was sourced from an '83 Z28, with the stitching going up and down.

The restrictive exhaust has been replaced with L69 exhaust manifolds, a custom made 2.25" Y-pipe, going into a 3" Catco High Flow cat, into a real 3" intermediate pipe, and an SLP 2OTL muffler tailpipe. Car sounds and runs awesome.

I'll try to go through some of the new parts:

Tokico struts and shocks.
Tokico 2" lower springs, (still have the originals)
AC Delco strut bearings.
1986 IROC-Z Wonderbar
Starter
Water Pump
Power steering pump
AC Delco Distributor cap, coil and rotor
IAC
AC Delco O2 sensor
2 K&N airfilters
MAP sensor
All new vaccuum lines
HVAC fan
Heater control switch
160* T-stat
Driver's side injector
ECM
New visors, (New as in NOS, never been used before me)
New and CORRECT '83 window switches. (Double the price of the newer, more common ones)
Chuck Pelton '83 Z28 wheel, (best $200 I ever spent - by far).
Clutch, flywheel, pressure plate, etc.
Phoenix Graphics hood blackouts
Coolant overflow bottle
Window Washer bottle
Driver and passenger side grills
Silver Star headlights.

Many more I can't even think of.

The car runs awesome, lots of fun to drive and have driven it long distance. It has never left me stranded, even when the ECM went south. AC blows ice cold.

It is an original paint car and has multiple door dings. It could use new T-Top seals and window sweeps.

I'm asking $7950 and have A LOT more than that invested.

Separately, I also some very rare and hard to find parts I bought for this car. The last ever in the world, correct, CFI hood insulation molded with the aluminum backing, still in the original GM box. New and unused blue GM front floor mats. I searched for years to get these, haven't seen any since and have never installed them. I saw new GM floor mats in the common black color on ebay for $500 last month. How much are these super-duper rare blue ones worth? Your guess is as good as mine. Complete, blue Lear Siegler Conteur interior, including nice door panels - which I had to pay through the nose for. Front seats need to be re-upholstered and I have purchased enough "CAMARO" fabric to do them. I don't have the blue bolster fabric, though.

This is a cool, fun car, but it's also 32 years old and shows some wear. Let me know if you have any questions. Car currently has 106K miles on it.

I was hoping to get better pictures, but it was about to rain and I was in a hurry to get it back in the garage.

Here's another pic from a nicer day.

Re: 1983 Z28 For Sale

Sweet ride Chazman, I had an 83 Z28 but when I got it it had been swapped for a GM 350 crate motor, but my 83 T/A had the CFI. It was pretty cool, I miss those cars. GL with the sale, someone is going to get a very nice ride!

Re: 1983 Z28 For Sale

Man look how nice that SLP exhaust fits!

I sincerely hope someone on this forum that appreciates the car buys it.

For whatever it's worth to any potential buyers, I know this car VERY well and have spent more time with it than anyone but Charlie himself. Financial limitations are the ONLY reason I haven't bought this car already. At any rate, this is a top notch car with nothing to be afraid of.

Yes the hood flaps snap open when you get on it hard, it's my favorite part of the car!!!

Haha! Yes Jeremy, the 2OTL fits perfectly!

I have to say that the hood flaps are my favorite part too. Put your foot in it on a cool evening and you can actually hear the engine getting a gulp of fresh air when the flaps snap open.

Re: 1983 Z28 For Sale

If you post that car somewhere other than TGO, you better put a $12,500 price on it!!! It's in pretty good condition and being modded for improvement, the price should reflect it. I've seen cars in worse shape with similar/higher asking price than my suggested price.

Nice try Scott but you're too late. We discussed the car's value and if he would have taken that much I would have already bought it!

I'd like to sell it here, but if it goes on ebay I'll probably raise it some. Like you said, I've seen worse cars go for bigger money there. Probably because you get an international audience.

Hey you never know, this could be THE dream car for some enthusiast from the Netherlands.

But we all know these cars aren't worth much.

Good luck with the sale. I'd love to own an early car. I know for a fact that the doors wouldn't have any dents when I was done with it!!!

As you know, I've reached out to various PDR guys. My take is that they'd rather spend 15 minutes on a used BMW at the dealership and bill $150, rather than spend a few hours or more on my door dings.

Thanks again, Scott. You'd be EXACTLY the kind of guy I'd feel comfortable selling my '83 to.

I understand. That's typical in the industry. It will take time to get the doors fixed because there is a brace right there. It is doable, but it will take time.

Re: 1983 Z28 For Sale

I'd like to add an early car to my stable as well. And Charlie appears to be including most of the stuff this car needs to make it perfect. The blue Lear Seigler interior would be awesome in this car. All I'd need to add would be an aluminum driveshaft and a set of 12" 1LE copy front brakes are all it needs to be the perfect '83 Z28 GM should have built....until I got the 'vette spec crossfire 350 built.

But alas, this sale hits me at a sour time financially. Again, hope the new owner loves it for what it is. It's an awesome example of an early thirdgen.

Here's some original paper work on the car. Note dealer installed 140 mph speedo. Also included are a folder full of receipts of all work done to it, from original purchase until now.

Thank you! That sort of "what if" is EXACTLY what my thought process was with this car.

Re: 1983 Z28, LU5, 5 Speed For Sale

I spent some time driving this and my '92 convertible this weekend. What I came away with is, I wish my 'vert was as fun to drive as my '83.

So...

Although I've said I'm not interested in trades, ie., I don't want a Harley or a Tahoe, I would be interested in a very specific trade.

I'd be willing to consider a trade for both this '83 and my PHM, '92 convertible, for the right, lower miles, 5 speed, IROC-Z or TA convertible. Two for one....maybe. But it would have to be the right deal for everyone.

Charlie do you mean a 5speed IROC or TA convertible? Or are you including T-top and hard top cars in the mix?

You've got a very nice early thirdgen. If I had the cash and the room I would make you an offer. It's getting very hard to find an early thirdgen, let alone a car with a properly functioning cross-fire set up in this condition. Are you sure there isn't a way that you could keep it? Lol maybe the universe is trying to tell you to keep this car.

LOL, you're not the first person to tell me that.

I'm in no hurry anyway. I'd like to find the right home for it.

Spring is the best time to sell our cars. It seems that they sell faster and for more during that period.

But, I've got 5 drivers in my house now, and I really need the space.

Still on ebay. Lowered the price to my super-duper rock bottom. If it doesn't sell within the next 2 day and 15 hours, I'm keeping it and getting a lift to store it.

I would just keep it if I were you. If you let that car go you would regret it. You can keep working on it and make it the factory version of the car that you wished GM made from the start. It's very hard to find a mostly stock early thirdgen now. Especially a cross-fire car that's still running good.

That should be your plan anyway Charlie!

Phase 2 of the plan should be me building a sleeper CFI 350 for it....

All it takes to do that is a Q-jet.

The speedo gear sleeve and a new gear are pretty cheap and easy to replace. I guess I'd do those just to get the "minor issue" out of the eBay listing.

GLWS; a friend had a nice 84 Z28 w/ blue int. and it brings back memories.

You are 100% correct. Little things like that should be fixed and be a non-issue before selling a car.
