CCC L69 BIN and Mask Help

Newbie looking to get into tuning and working diligently on getting a $6E mask to work on my 165 ECM.

What i need help with is getting a BIN and a mask for the 1986 5.0L carb engine. I did a search for several hours until all the words ran together in a soupy mixture and the only thing i really found were out of date links and some files that were for the L69 engine but for the 88 year model.

I have a 1986 5.0L LG4 with the 1227169 ECM and it has the CE1090N Prom in it. I have upgraded the cam to the L69 Camshaft, upgraded the exhaust to a true 3" exhaust all the way back to a 3" flowmaster muffler. I think we even changed the intake and exhaust valves in the engine rebuild and bored the engine out .30 over. The spark tables are way to conservative and i would like to get into changing the spark advance to match the capability of the engine now.

I think the L69 program for either 85 or 86 would probably be a good bet, as well as a good EPROM substitution since the PROM simply plugs into the ECM. Anyone with information on this subject would be appreciated, since i do not want to dump the computer controlled carb. I hear that a 2732 EPROM might work, since the original PROM is a 24 pin chip.

Re: CCC L69 BIN and Mask Help

Here is the bin for a 88 Monte L69 SS

I also have the bin for an 85 Monte SS too... I would be happy to trade these for the definition files for both ECUs

I'm pretty sure these are stock... but I did not read them myself... These were collected from various locations on the web

Re: CCC L69 BIN and Mask Help

i dont have the mask files for these bins. the mask for the 88 year i think is the $40 mask and goes with the 8079 ecm. i think someone did the dissassembly already but all i found was the source file which i can post when i am in a wi fi area. i dont know assembly code or how to make a .ecu file.

Re: CCC L69 BIN and Mask Help

Ya, I would give my left one for any CCC Q-Jet Mask file $40 or others...

I have been on a fruitless search of Moates, DYI-EFI etc... and it looks like any (and almost all) BIN and XDFs for the Computer Command QuadraJets have been long ago purged...

Ask and you shall recieve. This worked great with my 1990 model 307 CCC Q-Jet

Re: CCC L69 BIN and Mask Help

The file that Fast355 posted contains the .XDF definition (mask) file for Tunerpro. You will have to get the later versions of Tunerpro to be able to use an .XDF file. The older versions were based on the .ECU defintion file format. The .BIN files you have contains the actual binary code that the ECM is going to use as the program. You need both of these together to be able to read the program.

The spark advance on the L69 Bins were pretty conservative as well i see, compared to the fuel injected bins.

If i am going to use my 1227169 ECM, am i going to have to have to get a special EPROM or am i going to have to swap out the ECM with a later model ecm??

Re: CCC L69 BIN and Mask Help

I have this ADS file for logging that I tried to make work when I had my LG4.
The command is the problem I think. The rest of the definition was right from "A7".
If you can get it to work let me know what I did wrong and then it can be posted up so more people can use it.

I'm completely confused by both of the last two files posted.
(BTW )

They both appear to be ADS files... As understand the ADS file they help Tunerpro RT read the real time ALDL data... but they do nothing to de code the PROM bin

To see how the PROM works I need the "template" file or the $40 XDF file... Or am I missing something here.

I'm starting to feel like a total idiot This can't be that complicated..
is it?

I'm off to read the stickies again

Re: CCC L69 BIN and Mask Help

the zip file fast355 posted called 1228079 ccc qjet has an xdf for the $40 mask or definition file or calibration. all the same thing but different names. its the magical decoder ring that tells where the ecm needs to look to find the various parts of the code. an example would be the spark advance tables. jp... i am new to all this and been reading posts over and over until i get sick of my laptop. do i have to know assembly code to figure it out? thanks for the help guys

Re: CCC L69 BIN and Mask Help

ECU/XDF = Definition or "Template" file
This indicates where items are in a bin file and allows you to see/edit the values in engineering units (rather than hex)

ADS = DATA logging definition
Allows you to only view the information streaming out of the ECM.
Converts the output from Hex to Engineering units so the values mean something.

If you want to edit your program, ECU/XDF, Logging uses the ADS
No Assembly needed

Re: CCC L69 BIN and Mask Help

Jp didnt the 1985 year have the 160 baud ecm and the 1986 and after have the 8172 baud ecm?i think the aldl commands would be different. i just found out today that the 1228079 in the 1987 monte carlo ss had the l69 program and is a plug in upgrade with no connector change. i bought one and will check it out when i get it in.

The CCC Carb ecms were ALL 160 baud rate. Even TBI setups were 160 baud up until the advent of computer controlled transmissions in 1993.

You are correct about the L69 program in the Monte Carlo SS. Also worth mention is the Engine/ECM used in the 1988-1990 Cadillac Fleetwood brougham was commonly a Vin 9 307 HO. So oldsmobile owners have a viable source for HO 307 proms/ECMs as well.

Don't forget that WinALDL supports the CCC Q-Jet. I also have an untested .ADS file for TunerProRT and an ADX file for Scannerpro.

On one of my computers I have a commented Hack of the 8079s code.

Re: CCC L69 BIN and Mask Help

I still have my 86 SS ECM (169) and PROM, have always wanted to do something with it. Since I sold my 85 GP and rewired the SS, there hasn't been anything around for me to test with. If you locate that hack file, I'd be interested in looking at it. Did it include any ROM function from the ECM?

I would love a post of the 8079 Hack and would also love if you have any of the XDFs and BINs for any of the early and mid 80's CCCs... Based on the bin files I've been able to beg and borrow... It looks like there were (at least ) three masks for the CCC carbs... one from the early 80s a slightly different one in the mid 80s with the advent of knock sensors and then the 88-90 ECU that switched from a PROM to an EPROM.

Does anyone know if the Chevy 305 QJet and the Olds 307 QJet shared the same mask?

Is there a table somewhere that documents which mask works with which Qjet ECM?... All of the reference tables I can find are EFI, TPI, TBI, etc ECMs.

The CCC Qjet gets no love

I'll agree with all of the above.. I'm also interested in working with these but I'm not capable of disassembly, and unsure how I'd cope with the (steep) learning curve required. I can understand much out of reading a disassembly but not all. I'm familiar with some basic assembly principles..
I've been looking at a late Old's 307 ECM & 16kB BIN, found it to be a $B0 mask, and have started on some .ads files. Not sure if any of my findings are correct though, & they are certainly not complete.. I know of someone with the same generation 305 Chevy, and could try to get hold of that BIN.

I agree that CCC Q-Jets get no love, and know why too. It is just too simple to slap a "Normal" Q-Jet and a "Normal" HEI onto the car and get good power.

It downloaded fine for me. The hack is also available at Moates. Look for the $40.zip file.

Re: CCC L69 BIN and Mask Help

We installed the 87 Monte Carlo SS computer and the car runs so much better. The stock computer dropped off around 4500 RPM but the L69 computer keeps the spark advance going as far as you want to rev it. We hit 6000RPM in a test drive and this thing hauls! This is with the stock LG4 manifolds and intake.

we removed the old computer and connected the new one and it started right up. have been running it that way ever since. no changes to the connectors required.
