Computer/wire harness delete questions

I have a 1987 Camaro with the 305 CC quadrajet and 5spd. I'm going to a new engine with a Holley carb and HEI distributor and I'm going to delete the ECM and wire harness for it. I noticed in that harness however that a wire goes to my 5spd trans. Can I just separate that wire from that harness or does the computer have something to do with the trans? Any other things I should know or need to do? Thanks for the help!!

You may find useful info in the following link:

https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/engi...-function.html

IIRC, the gnd1 plug (pic in above link) with the black/white wire on one side and the blue and green wires on the other used to be the bulk head connector that passed through the side of the car (remove the kick panel). The blue and green wire still pass through that area as they are for the back up lights.

Gnd2 plugs into the cruise control module (yellow box) which is located more toward the center of the car.

Thanks for the link and your help! Appreciate it. My camaro doesn't have cruise so no worries there. Another question. Can I use the wires that went to the CC distributor to power the HEI that I'll be converting to?

Re: Computer/wire harness delete questions

Ok so to clarify this is the connector under my dash that's like yours but will all the wires still in place. I can eliminate all the wires but keep the blue and green on both sides and my reverse lights will be ok?

Re: Computer/wire harness delete questions

It's been a long time since I swapped in my 350 HO (with Holley and HEI), but as I recall, I removed all the wiring from the white connector with the exception of the blue and green wires and everything worked without issue.
