3.1L --> 5.7L

Hey guys, here in a couple weeks I will be starting my swap into my 91 RS, I spent the last year fixing up the suspension/brakes and building up the new drive train, now its time to put all the pieces together..

I'm posting this thread to make sure I have all my ducks in a row and not forgetting or missing anything important before I start.

So atm my game plan is to purchase all the parts to get my new v8/700r4 in, new mounts, entire exhaust system, and the parts needed to marry the Transmission to the v8, then I'm going to pull my tired 3.1L V6 out and clean up the engine bay, then put the new mounts on and put the new v8 in, after it is in, purchase the remaining parts to get it running: Throttle body, IAC, Knock sensor, fuel rails/injectors/fuel lines, Spark plugs/wires, new ignition coil, and new alternator/bracket. I plan on using the existing wiring harness and modify it, get a new PROM/MEMCAL for the ECU and using the existing PS Pump with new brackets. The only thing i'm not 100% on Is how to run the serpentine belt, go to the junk yard and mix/match parts, or buy a conversion kit off summit that comes with all the brackets/pulleys.

Is there anything I am missing? and are there any tips/tricks I should be aware of to make this go smoothly? any help and advice will be grateful since this is my first project so I feel a little overwhelmed lol

Re: 3.1L --> 5.7L

Sounds like you're putting in a TPI, correct?

Is your TH700 from a 3rd gen? If not, you'll need to swap the tailshaft housing from your existing tranny (assuming it is also a TH700) for the torque arm mount.

Getting a harness & ECM that matches your TPI would be a lot easier, but it's not like the harness can't be modified.

I would go to the junk yard and get the brackets, alternator, water pump (although a new one wouldn't be a bad idea), and PS pump. Unless you're into bling and spending money, then get March (or Summit kit) and new accessories.

Yes, tpi
I got the tranny from a 87 bird so im good there, im going to be using the 77-7730 ecu with a 305 PROM and custom tune, modifying the harness is a lot cheaper than a $500 harness, the ps pump is the same for v6 and v8, just different brackets, with the accessories, thats what im not sure what to do, blingy set or junk yard parts, I akready have the waterpump since its a fresh rebuild I did on the motor, not pulled from another vehicle

Just make sure your water pump matches the accessory type.
