632 bbc

Has anyone had any experience with throwing one of these into a 3rd gen?
I know the dimensions are the same as a standard bbc.
I'm wondering where my shifter may end up if I can cram it in there and put a magnum t56 behind it.
Thanks, Bret

Re: 632 bbc

Tall deck? They are big but will fit. Tall deck is only way i'd do a 4.75" stroke deal for a better rod ratio and light piston if for na. Boost or spray it doesnt matter as much but still should have a tall deck.

I have a tall deck 555 goin in mine

Re: 632 bbc

The guy w Alaska in his username posted pics of a Magnum mocked up behind a small block in a T5 car. Magnum shifter ended up pretty nicely located IMHO.

Shifter location should not change. Front of the motor is longer and its wider but trans stays same location

Re: 632 bbc

Awesome, I was figuring it might not be too bad. Last thing I have to consider if I want to do it though..
How do I go about the front suspension with that weight?

And yes, it's a tall deck. One of those supposed 820ft lb torque turn keys

Re: 632 bbc

Because I figure I've got to do something, but some guys were saying the weight isn't that different?

And *jmd, I'm asking how it fits mated to a bbc. Will the back of the bbc be at the same depth as the sbc?

Re: 632 bbc

It definitely is alot heavier than sbc. If iron blocked

You will want more spring rate.
Say a sbc coil over setup may run 250-350 lbs for a street decent handling setup. Drag car may want 150-200.
A bbc would require probably 300-500 lb springs for street handling and 225-275 for drag depending.

Re: 632 bbc

That's good info thank you. Do you have any recommendations for springs for a big block swap?

I'll check the block and heads and see what they are, I believe cast

Re: 632 bbc

Conventional springs?

If stock style, stock iroc/z28 rates are in the 500 lb range. Most lowering handling springs are in the 700-800 range which would be good for a bbc. They ride stiff with a sbc but would be better with a bbc weight when combined with a good adjustable shock

Not sure what you are doing with the car. Bbc plus t56 sounds like a street fun toy

Re: 632 bbc

I'm building it for a DD 😆. 632, t56, chromolly shaft, 9in. Stock brakes for now though. Trying to get in the 9s, but try to get 20highway mpg.

And alright cool I'll have to check out what springs then. Does a bbc have the same depth as a sbc in our cars tho? Where it sits in the bay, if I just pulled my motor and tried to drop it in would it mount where the Tranny sits from factory?

Re: 632 bbc

That's a great point and makes sense. I just feel like there's no way it should be that easy. I was expecting a whole lot more mess

Re: 632 bbc

It should only grow towards the front of the car. Mines in stock location. It just 2" closer to nose and heck of alot wider and taller

Re: 632 bbc

Sweet that sounds great then. You say wider though, it fits inside the strut towers without any cutting?

Re: 632 bbc

It does but i would recommend a smaller steering shaft for header clearance. Mw66nova here sells them

Headers will be tight, you will want to build your own. 2.25" primary imo for a street 632"

Re: 632 bbc

He sells custom steering shafts for application? That would be great. And are any of the pre fabbed Headers good? I know they have custom fab Headers for 3rd gen to bbc, but I've seen people talk about beating in the floor pans and whatnot.

Re: 632 bbc

I have no idea on aftermarket headers

Maybe check lemons headers or ed quay to see if they make them

Other brands are too small in primary sizes and not guaranteed to fit

👍I'll keep that in mind. I'll ask about more if I come across anything, and I'll post photos when I start getting things in. Thank you

I meant it, but didn't say it. Orr said it.

The engine block mount bosses are the same distance from the back of the block on a BBC as on a gen I SBC

Re: 632 bbc

I have seen a 632 in action, In a 70 Monte Carlo, with A/C, P/S full interior car, he drove it over a hour to the track with a TH400 and 3.73's, he ran 11 flat all day long, then drove it home, it dident seem to care it was in a 4000lb car.
