Noob question help please

I just bought an 82 T/A with the LG4 and one thing i really want to do is replace the stock exhaust. Where i need help is how do i go about modding the exhaust to make it sound better. Im not looking to get any hp out of this just make it sound mean, so would buying a catback system be my best option or just buying a muffler? Maybe there are other options and with advice id consider them, but im not planning on spending a ton of money on upgrades, so the more money im saving the better, as long as i get a good outcome. Thanks in advance for the help!

Re: Noob question help please

Borla, Corsa, Pypes, Hooker, Pacesetter, all have Cat Back exhaust systems. Depending on your budget, any of these systems will work and help performance and sound. If that system is too much money, go with a good muffler. Borla or somebody else.

Expect to spend 600 and up a basic cat back system.
A muffler can be had for 100, plus install

Good luck

More horse power bigger piping. Although catbacks can be had as low as $250 if you get the summit house brand.

Well seeing how there are already about 400 threads with peoples opinions about what sounds good with each person contradicting the other try the search function then. I have personally built about a dozen different custom 3rd gen exhaust with different style headers, mufflers, resonators, Y pipe and pipe diameters and found the youtube clips to be a fairly accurate representation when you want to do something nutz like form your own opinion.

Re: Noob question help please

yeah no i definitely dont want to do something nutz, I think ive narrowed it down to just a muffler. i know there are a bunch of threads about the sound but all of them ive looked at have been about full exhaust systems. im looking for a recommendation for a good product not necessarily sound because thats obviously an opinion

Re: Noob question help please

Your very first post specifically asked opinions on sound. Post #5 also specifically states you are worried about sound. That's the responses you got.

If you want an opinion on quality then that would be anything stainless steel.

Borla stuff usually is stainless, and most of there stuff has a million mile warranty, not like any of our cars will last that long lol.

Stainless won't rust, but is expensive, take a look at a companies warranty, that would give a good representation on the quality, the longer the warranty the better the product generally.
