yeah i agree. it will be cool none the less but if your car is carbed i dont see how it would be hard to just mock up a new air cleaner to attach it to.

Re: Shaker Hood Build
I am doing it because i want to, and because I can. Given what you done to that thing your working on and I see 86 TA isn't afraid of changing a few things here and there either. I'm actually surprised you would post a comment like that. It wasn't mean't to have Burt Reynolds swing by an get his picture taken with it. It was something I saw Richrad and a few others try and i thought it was pretty cool. Richrads was actually functional but with a tpi setup that isn't an option for me. I decided to bolt it in (instead of permantly attaching it) So if I wanted to have it repainted down the road it would be simple to remove it. I also have the factory hood safely tucked away in case I sold it to someone who'd prefer the Turbo hood. I thought this website was for ideas and information on how to repair or modify these vehicles from fellow 3rd Gen members? If this isn't correct feel free to let me know.

as for the "shaker", its been done a couple times here before, with a real shaker scoop from the 2nd gens, adapted to the 3rd gen hood and engine, largest hurdle is the offset of the engine vs the hood centerline. Lining everything up is a bit of a hassle.

It was kind of a let down to see the nice work done then find out it won't shake.
Why I can't help but question it. The thread title makes me expect something else

no offense, but i think you are over reacting a bit here, these are simply comments, i didnt see any insults of your work thrown around, just observations, if I may, however trivial they may be.

My apologies but It was a Shaker Scoop so i used that terminology. After checking out your pics I now realize it will never meet your legendary standards when it come to auto fabrication.

And yea those fog lights have been gone a good 5 years, couldn't stop hitting them on stuff and the bulbs burned out yearly n cost $7 each.
Next are wide body rear fenders and making it a hard top Targa.
[Not using T-tops]
[And I still dream of functional 2n gen TV show KITT air foils that come out of the front fenders at will and a Indy car style built in jacking system.]
Sure you can find more stuff to use to shoot my work down here, this is my main ride.

That should help clue ya in, I’ve had it so long, I have done it all from stock to this. And right now it’s a nice change that has kept me interested in it.

Apparantly there is no interest in this since it is obviously a low tech operation for many on here. But for someone who has never messed with one I thought it would be fun to participate in the forums and share with others who might want to try it as well. I am a little at why so many on here want to cut others down for doing something that is done strictly for fun. If you want to see one shake then feel free to purchase one and make it happen. I hope this helps to clear up any that you have.

Once again with a TPI setup that really isn't a practical option for me. It was simply something I wanted to see on my car to see how it would look.

Gumby do you have any pics or thread showing the hood vents in the sail panels?

Still a neat idea. Pretty sure I've seen it done before. I think this would look great when included with the special appearance package.

I am always interested in seeing what others are doing. Especially when I feel it is in good taste, yours is. I agree that with TPI a true shaker is rather impractical. Just due to the title of the post I was expecting a true shaker scoop. We all know that what you did is reasonable under the circumstances and I do not believe that anybody is demeaning the work as much as the title of the post being a little misleading.

Re: Foe Shaker Hood Build
[quote=91phoenix;4909636] I do not wish to start an argument here, but I fail to see what function for instance sail panel vents would bring in a thirdgen, as long as nothing is fitted in the sailpanels that requires cooling or air.
In that regard, I find the shaker hood build by Bota a good show & shine piece, similar to sail panel vents.
In the spirit of show & shine I for one would definately see how this build looks when done and painted.
As a little advise, I might advise fitting some kind of seal around the sharp edge in the hood, where you cut it to fit the shaker. The straight edges look a bit sharp. Rounding the edges just ever so slightly would give the job a more "finished" look.
I have recently been thinking on building a functional shaker hood for my TBI camaro myself. Still a bit torn on the looks, which makes me want to see this build finished all the more

I would assume the "sail panel vents" could vent down towards the rear brake calipers. Well it's either that or they vent the flux capacitor but my moneys on the brakes.

Re: Shaker Hood Build
As far as having a "functional" shaker hood couldn't you have a flap on the front of the shaker that has holes drilled into it and bolt it to the top of the throttle body? You know where the "Tuned Port Injection" plate is? Just a suggestion. I mean it would shake with the engine just the back side would be wobbly. You may have to have flaps on the back or sides as well and bolt it to the intake runners. It would end up looking like a heat shield of some sort when the hood is up and it would vibrate when the engines revved.

Re: Shaker Hood Build
There are ways around that. I would like to see you try and fabricate something similar to the Mach 1's (under the scoop of course, not facing the same way), as the air is brought down into the bay then extended towards the front by the air filter. Good work so far by the way....
