Re: hawks fiberglass iroc hood !!
The original post said they would be about $480.
I'd love to get one for $300, heck I'd order 2 at that price, but considering even the garbage hoods from up22 cost atleast that, I doubt hawks will get a quality hood for $300.
But again, if they do, put me down for 2, so we would be that much closer!

Think if you guys (hawks third gen) put a message on your site about possibly selling stock factory Iroc hoods you could get the 10 orders you're looking for?

I bought a ram air 2 good from hawks about a year ago and it is problem the worst fitting hood I've ever seen on a car ... Definitely not worth what I paid for it .. Wish I would just put a stock hood back on it

Fiberglass hoods never fit as well as a stock hood without work.
Regardless, I want a fiberglass iroc hood.

Re: hawks fiberglass iroc hood !!
bringing this thread back...
I will never understand why this kind of stuff is so poorly advertised. I didn't find out about the carbon fiber IROC hoods until the guy stopped making them. Now I catch this thread just before it dies...
what's the status of this?
who is making the hood?
will it take the factory louvers?

Re: hawks fiberglass iroc hood !!
Sorry to post again,
I just think that it's beyond stupid that I can find a fiberglass SS, Cowl, Daytona and even a turbo hood. I think I've seen a fiberglass RS hood.
Why is it that nobody thinks it would be worthwhile to make a regular-ole IROC-Z hood but they will make all of the above crap?

Re: hawks fiberglass iroc hood !!
Hi,
There is a ton of work that goes into the production of a new hood, with that said if we can get 10 people to give a deposit of 250.00 with a retail cost of around 550.00 Plus shipping there will be around a 8-10 week lead time to get these produced, varified and stock coming to the shelf. With that being said we will help you guys if the need is there . I hope this helps you and thanks for the opportunity!.
Thanks,
Bruce

I still think it's ridiculous that there is a market to produce everything EXCEPT the stock IROC hood w/ louvers.

Call me at the shop , only speak with me as the sales staff is unaware of the product . I will discuss further over the phone!

Re: hawks fiberglass iroc hood !!
I wouldn't mind their Turbo/Daytona one, but again I have heard so many people complain that they don't fit and they end up throwing a boat load of bondo + sanding + refitting to get these to even fit on an IROC. Makes me very hesitant to spend that much money only to have to spend that much again to make it look right.

Re: hawks fiberglass iroc hood !!
They need 10 orders to pay for the mold making, how it always goes. takes about 10 to start any project. Then after that its worth doing, and a good mold will make many hoods.

Re: hawks fiberglass iroc hood !!
My Daytona Hood from Hawks fitment was a bit skinny, sat high over the fenders and had a lip about 1/2" thick on the front. I added spacers to the hood latch bar and trimmed the front lip down to fit close to center while not pushing so much on the front bumper when latched. The sides show a bit of the fender bumpers and sit very tightly on/inbetween them. I have the car at the shop now, and am hoping they could get it to fit a bit better than when me and a buddy (body man) tried. He basically told me if we could get the fenders pushed in a tad bit more, the hood would sit very close to flush, side to side, but still would need work to sit lower so as not to show the side lip of the hood when looking from the side of the car.
Overall, a little sanding, grinding and I'm sure it's not super smooth so smooth it more and it'll look great. This being an IROC reproduction, I'm thinking there won't be as many problems. Hopefully with the feedback and group buy, you guys may get a high quality run going here.
Good luck. I love group buys. Stinks Klearz couldn't stick with mine.

I was lucky enough to buy a fiberglass from this guy in Canada was the very last one had. Was a pain to import the hood but one of the only few people in the country with a real fiberglass 85-92 iroc hood. Weighs 28lbs

This is not about the early 'functional' z28 hood.
This is about getting a fiberglass hood that accepts factory IROC Z louvers, a hood of which I have never seen made.

Hawks is waiting for 10 people to commit. In 2 years time this has not happened. This has shown them that there is not a real demand for this product.
I would still be in, but my 3rd gen is gone.

Re: hawks fiberglass iroc hood !!
Its a bunch of money to invest in molds and make a product, when you don't even know there is a demand.
They offered it out, and got very little response, thus showing the demand does not meet the investment.
There's a saying "Put up or shut up"
I had no problems offering money for one, but I sold the car.
When you order a fiberglass part from any company, that part is made after your order, from molds they already have. I ordered a hood from VFN last year. The hood was made after I ordered. That's the way fiberglass companies work.
Hawks has offered to invest in creating molds for a low demand product. The demand has proven to be so low the investment is not a wise move to make as far as the business is concerned.
You can always call other companies and see what they would do to get you a hood.
