Re: 87 GTA "Paddle" Mirrors
JT,You are correct on that info about 87 and up.I just received an Email from PHS,but he states they do up to 86.This is the message.
Fran, We do from 1961-1986 for the info packets but we do all the window stickers. GM media does the 87 and newer. Also in order to do the 87 and newer window stickers we need the invoice from them. Hope that helps. Here's a link to gm media

Re: 87 GTA "Paddle" Mirrors
I figure I'll just post here instead of starting a new thread.
I recently purchased an 87 GTA that has these "paddle mirrors" but does not have correct RPO to support them. Its showing DG7 RPO for outside mirrors, which is what my 88 and 91 TA have. Can anyone confirm that the 87 GTA's that left the factory with the paddle mirrors have the correct corresponding RPO for the break away mirrors?
I will be so happy if mine didn't come from the factory with those mirrors- they are ridiculous.

Re: 87 GTA "Paddle" Mirrors
The DD9 RPO code should be on the SPID if the car was originally intended to have that equipment. There is belief that some DD9 ordered cars may have came with DG7 instead due to fit and supply issues but I've not heard it the other way around.
Is your car a Canadian export? What is the month/year listed on the door?

Re: 87 GTA "Paddle" Mirrors
The car is Canadian export Z49 RPO. Its still in storage so I won't be able to look at the sticker on the door for another week or so.
The history of the car is known and is original ie; not rebuilt or modified. I was thinking the dealer might have swapped the mirrors around on the lot depending on the needs/wants of a customer.

Build date on this one is 05/87 I'm not really 100% sure when they dropped the option in 87. January/ February?

Re: 87 GTA "Paddle" Mirrors
According to a product bulletin on GTASourcepage.com, linked below, approximately January 26, 1987 was the date in which all productions after would have the DG7 mirrors:
http://www.gtasourcepage.com/Pontiac...7cdbs/87F7.jpg
Based on that, and based on you having the DG7 RPO code, I would believe that your car should have the DG7 non-paddle mirrors and that they were swapped at some time. While it could have came that way from the factory, the documentation does not support it and so it would be viewed as incorrect and there would be really no way to prove it came that way.

Hi MantaGuy, yes you see Jersey tags. I'm in Willingboro NJ now until I move up to Hamilton, Mercer Co once I sell my house. The car as far as I know has been a Jersey Car it's whole life.
Yes I'm going to restore it. It is rust free, straight, runs nicely, and I already put a new door on to replace that mangled one, and I have a source for a new front end for good fenders and a nose. It's mostly dirty, it's all there and I got it for a steal! The biggest PITA will be finding all the old mouse nests! LOL I found 2 already!
It is slightly modified, has headers a cam and an origional SLP CAI, so those will probably stay. I will put 17" "GTA" repo wheels from Hawksthirdgen. I am going to fix the nose, drive it while i build the cash for a paint job and new interior, then tear down the underside to get a fresh coat of paint on the running gear there too.

Re: 87 GTA "Paddle" Mirrors
No i did not know that. Thats great info to know! I've been to the cruise at Friendlys in Robbinsvile with my GTO I just sold a few times, and I'm trying to put the car back together before the fall nationals at ATCO.
Are you a member of South Jersey Pontiacs? I'm a member of Deleware Valley Old Goat Club, but will be switching clubs now that i got rid of the Goat.
Or is there a F-Body specific club in south Jersey?

Cool thread. If I would have seen those on a car before reading this thread, I would have criticized those mirrors knowing there are so many "correct" mirrors out there to be had. Crazy, Never realized those came on some cars. So different from what I have looked at for decades

After I looked at the car and started doing research I found this thread and all the RPO research on the early GTAs and discovered this car was special. Then also finding out the manual transmission is also rare, I became very excited realizing my car may be the only one like it in the whole country. I'm hoping the GM heritage center can tell me more if there were any of the other 50 US cars that got these mirrors had a manual Trans too, or if mine is the only one.
I don't even no how to approach estimating the insurance value on my car. How do you value a car that may be the only one like it in existence.
