The number of 1991 B4C w/1LE cars is very low John, I think only 6 of them got both.

This car was advertised previously on the board here - owner is in MA.

Maybe I missed it, but no mileage listing. It'll be interesting to see how it does, and I'd love to see the paperwork on the car.

My B4C is this way - no 1LE. However, the previous two owners were thoroughly convinced that it had 1LE. The RPO codes determined otherwise...

I'm assuming the post-FBI owner added the stripes?

Re: FBI CAMARO RS B4C

I thought for some reason that in 1991 the 1LE was a little more common on the B4C than that... I know not all of them got the brakes, but I thought it was higher than just 13...

Learn something new... Be better if it did.

Re: FBI CAMARO RS B4C

What makes this really interesting to me is this:
Camaro 1LE (White Book)
1989 - 111
1990 - 62
1991 - 478
1992 - 705

In 1992, all of the B4C cars (to my knowledge and understanding) had the 1LE, and there was 589 B4C cars... Which leaves only 116 1LE w/o B4C... If my understanding and information is indeed correct, then why were there so many 1LE's in 1991, but not as many other years?

Re: FBI CAMARO RS B4C

....and it was the longest production year of any f-body ever produced. 1991 Model year started January 1st, 1990 and ended August of 1991 - 20 months of production. Cars with the new body panels could be used in the 1992 season and with the 1993 models coming out with the new generation, there was little need for a 1 year car.

Of the 13 produced, 10 of them were 5.7/auto models and 3 were 5.0/5spds.

Re: FBI CAMARO RS B4C

I'm actually surprised that 62 of the 1LE's got built in 1990. Lets face it, you knew the IROC association was going away, there would be a new look and they would be dated almost as soon as they were delivered. Pontiac only built 4 of them & I know for a fact that 2 of those 4 soon wore the new panels.

Re: FBI CAMARO RS B4C

The new panel thing I think was common back in the day, probably still today. Why buy a new car when you can race your old one for a whole lot less? Swapping pieces and parts would take a few hours at the most, and I might be wrong, but it seems that if it was something like Players or Firehawk you might have had to be racing with the latest style changes. I liked what the owner did to your Trans Am, make it into a Formula and ditch the bulk, it would make it faster and less costly to repair if it got damaged.

Awesome! I'd be very happy with $22k for my B4C.

I think auctions are the best way to get top dollar for these cars when selling.

Re: FBI CAMARO RS B4C

20k hammer plus fees.

The car showed really well in a sea of crappy restorations and over-fluffed junk cars! It was a night and day difference comparing it to the majority of the cars there.

Sandra & I were there for about 6 hours yesterday and were very disappointed in the way they orchestrated the event. I think the facility was overwhelmed by the number of people that attended and they oversold it. It was poorly organized and poorly run & when we first showed up weren't even allowed into the arena because it was over full! The venues outside were neat and you had good access to the cars before & after but the distances to & from were pretty substantial and the maze that's designed to keep you in a casino did not lend itself well to an event like this.

Agreed!

In hind sight I should have brought every car I owned - I could have bought that house up on Cape Cod I've always wanted.

Purchased by a guy with more money than brains......

Me!

Typical case of it was "just like my first car" expect my first car of course had the 2.8 V6 because I couldnt afford the insurance on a V8.

I know these cars aren't really worth this much money but in the Northeast in particular nice ones like this really don't exist....

Are you unhappy with the car? Why?

There are good cars in the Northeast, you just need to be willing to look.

I've always felt that going to check out a car was like going on a blind date. Once you get past all of the lies and the old pictures you occasionally find one you want to bring home.

A friend of mine has the identical car (91 B4C in that color) and was on the floor at the auction bidding on your car as well. There was another lady near him also bidding on it who was seriously interested in it. I spent quite a bit of time climbing around it in the parking garage, it's a good car and will continue to appreciate in value. Whoever painted it did a nice job and i'm sure spent big bucks to get it done. I think you did good! Not sure where you are from in New England but there are plenty of good cruise nights in MA, NH, and CT. Maybe we can all catch up at one this season!

I agree, but it's a catch-22... first, because some people prefer the better 5.7L TPI. Second, because the 5-speed is hard to keep the mileage off. I bought my B4C with 11k miles on it about 6 years ago, but that LB9 T5 combo is so much fun that I'm now over 25k miles. When I bought it, I drove it 1000 miles home instead of shipping. Crazy, but fun!

I didn't realize this FBI car had 13,000 miles on it.

Congratulations on the car! Price seems right given the mileage, options, and documentation. Also, it sounds like you were in a bidding war with some other people. I think it revealed the true market value of an excellent B4C.

Honestly I really like the paint the Red with the silver stripes to me looks really really good. Granted it kind of kills the idea that the B4C is a sleeper, but I would definitely drive it.

Honestly I like the White Johnson phantom next to the B4C in that pic., I would paint it Red and Black and call it the Menace... The Phantom Menace... Just kidding.

Re: FBI CAMARO RS B4C

First and foremost that particular Barrett Jackson was a seller paradise.

I was hoping to by two or three other cars and they went wayyyy over market price. 20K hammer was my absolute top on this car and I didn't think I was going to get it.

The paint on this car is spectacular though I guess original would be preferred for such a low mileage B4C.

I guess my real gripe is Barrett Jackson makes no effort to help out the buyers vet the cars.. I know it's not in there best interest as all it would do is lower the prices and therefore reduce their income. But the owners are not required to be at there cars at anytime to answer questions....you can't start the cars or check if anything is functional...yes I know if you don't like it don't bid...

but either way

Examples of thing I didn't expect to have to fix on such a "mint example"

Brakes:

Went to drive the car up on my trailer and depressed the brakes and it made a HARD left turn... ok frozen caliper no biggy...I already replaced both front calipers and its perfect now......but the car was completely non-drivable prior to the fix.

AC not working (again no shocker there but still disappointing ill sort it out soon.

Tach not operating.....Already ordered a new control board

Water temp gage not working

SRS light on

Headlight Switch broken...the typical plastic nut issue...already ordered.

I wonder why a gov ordered FBI car with legit GAM rpo was not driven? Was the car rejected by the bureau for some reason. The '91 I owned was loaded with switches and mods from service. I assume no mods on this car?

My friend said he knew the history of it, it was a training car and why the mileage was low. It did have a cage in it at one point as you can see under the dash corners where it is patched up and it most likely did have all of the switches and other equipment which were eliminated when the car was restored.

As mentioned above I have the exact same car. What is interesting is your VIN is ML196894, my car is ML196909. Interesting that two cars that close in production (7/91) are now within a couple hundred miles of each other. Where in New England do you live?

I saw the car at the auction and did bid for a while. The lady sitting at the end of my row came within $500 of grabbing this one. It would be great to see this car out this summer.

If you read post # 653 you will see my car: https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/hist...1992-a-14.html

Correct me if I am wrong, but this is the same car which was for sale here right? I believe PurelyPMD looked at it prior to going to Barrett Jackson.

I really wanted the Red Porsche 912 it was a solid driver and was worth ~40k

If memory serves me it went for $68K + 6,800 premium for an outrageous total of $74,800

There was also a non numbers matching light blue 63 Corvette coupe with aftermarket air that was again a really nice diver. Probably worth $50-60K that went for over $100k with the premium.

I was also going to pick up the ex-bonderant mustang school car...Orange.. for a track day toy. i passed because it crossed the block very early Thursday and i wanted to save my money for the other cars....it would have been a lot of fun and went for 14,300 with the premium.

the prices were in general totally silly.

As far as my dream build i want a third gen with a perfect body, stock interior, LSX T56 great suspension and brakes with A/C... and no T-Tops. It should look as stock as possible

Re: FBI CAMARO RS B4C

I was up there on Friday; I was truthfully very disappointed in the quality (or should I say lack of quality) of the vast majority of cars present. Cameras and TV hide a multitude of sins; don't be fooled, many of these cars were flat out rough, sub-par, well-worn and poorly restored, used cars.

I wish you luck with your new purchase, however.

I was too, I couldn't believe how lumpy and bumpy so many of them were!! I was taken back.... There was a 70 GTO judge that had a rot hole in the roof, the gas monkey yellow 55 chevy was an absolute mess, there was a 79 TA you could stick your hand in the hood gap with, etc. Made me feel much better about my cars lol

If I remember correctly, FLETC in Georgia had Camaros as well for their driver training. By the time I went through the training in Virginia, those had been retired.
