Re: Custom center console
I like the idea. Have thought of doing the same on my IROC. I currently have the entire interior stripped out of it so i figured why not go back in with metal instead of the OEM?

Right? Love the aluminum over plastic cheap crap. Working on this now. Going to do the dash in aluminum after I get these finished.

Yes nice! When mine goes sour I was already thinking of having one built out of better material. There could be a market out there for these consoles!

Re: Custom center console
There are a couple members on here, myself included that have altered our center consoles. Some have changed very minor details but others have majorly altered them. I happen to think I did a pretty good write up about how I did mine and I referenced many other member's threads and internet ideas.

If it was going into my car I would have to put a little paint and upholstery on it, but that's just my taste. The craftsmanship looks great in both too!

Re: Custom center console
Custom consoles work far better in the birds than the Camaros. The Camaro's dash has a cut out for the stock center console so you are somewhat stuck using the exact stock dimensions of the center console where it mates to the dash. If I didn't already have my complete set of aftermarket gauges I would have swapped a firebird dash in recovered it to hide the Firebird symbols.

Re: Custom center console
Great idea. Looks good. Couple of suggestions and observations
Window switches and mirror controls are no longer at "your fingertips"
Would look nice if it was "machine turned or covered with a nice foam backed leather.
And going this extreme, I myself would of incorporated a cup holder; saves the crotch from hot burning coffee when you choose to drive it to work. (ask me how I know)
Just my opinions, to each his/her own. Again, nice job!

Re: Custom center console
Looks like a track car, can't hold coffee in your crotch with a 5 point harness in the way lol. A nice chrome shift **** would finish it off real nice though.
