Another red z28 (Sa, Tx) "Ginger"
Well, its that time again, this is my 8th fbody and my 4th third gen. I already have a 68 chevy c10 with an LS swap, and a 1972 Camaro that Ive owned since I was 16, but car was way too clean and too good of a deal to pass up.
I'm at work right so I'll update post later when I get home.
Interior...
Car is 1991 Camaro z28, red exterior, grey clothe, auto L98 car. It has front disc, but rear drums.
I'll update mods and pics as I work on the car.

First mods were to replace accessory belt, changed out the park lamp housings and put a new bowtie grille.
Before...
I taped everything up and resprayed inside behind the grille to black it out, didn't like the red overspray.

Re: Another red z28 (Sa, Tx) "Ginger"
Second mod came a few days later, I decided to ditch the nasty tail pipes and tips that the car came with. I had the muffler shop install new mandrel bent 2 1/2 tail pipes and some corsa 2 1/2 inlet, dual 3.5 oulet clone tips as well. I am really **** about my cars, so I made the guy test fit the piping on the driverside and tip several times. I ultimately wanted the tips flushed with the bottom of the back bumper. He did a great job on the driverside, but once I walked away to take a phone call, he kind screwed me on the pass side one. It sticks out by just a few cm's. Car already came with a Hooker Aerochamber muffler, and it sounds pretty ok.
This is old nasty setup.
Here are the tips I that I got a decent deal on.
Tips being but on...
Mocking it up.
And all done, I just need to find the time to sand the piping and the Aerochamber muffler and polish them up.

Looking good keep up the progress. I wish my car was that clean when bought it... I might not have touched a thing for a while and enjoyed the ride.

Re: Another red z28 (Sa, Tx) "Ginger"
Thanks bud, unfortunately the cars transmission has been acting up on me, I believe its going to need a rebuild. I'll post up some pics of the parts for the rebuild when they come in, as well as the tear down and reinstall of it. I trusted the guy I bought the car from, but guess that's what I get for thinking I got a hellofa deal on the car.

Im having a hard time find the thread where it is discussed which is the best transmission for a 350/700r4 car. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Looking good man.
That TB plate looks badass.
Will you be making it to the Thirdgen-Roundup in May?

Re: Another red z28 (Sa, Tx) "Ginger"
A little update, I got the car back from getting the 700r4 rebuilt. She is shifting nice and strong, but had a mild issue with the car reving itself up while in park. So I ordered a new IAC valve to see if it would take care of the issue, and low and behold it did, thank baby jesus.
While I took the TB off, I decided to polish the original thermostat housing as well as the throttle body. Heres a few pics.
Once the tstat housing was off, you could see how ugly it was.
heres a pic or two of it in the process of being sanded down.
and the final product of the tstat housing.
And one of it installed.

God that thing is clean! Love those exhaust tips too. I had a set very similar on my old 96' but i think yours pulls it off better. Nice work.

Dave,
I will be installing them tomorrow, crazy bipolar south texas weather permitting. From what I saw when I opened the package, they are very nice quality pieces. I paid $50 shipped for all three from Hawks ebay page. I'll post pics of them installed.

Re: Another red z28 (Sa, Tx) "Ginger"
On a side note, I will be taking the wheels off pretty soon, stripping the clear and painting them semi-flat black. I had previously done a set like that and liked how they came out on my old 91 z28 I had back in 2008.
And since its throw back Thursday, here a pic from my house back in 2008, when I owned 5 fbodies all at once, ha.

Re: Another red z28 (Sa, Tx) "Ginger"
Regular semi-flat automotive paint I had laying around. Wasn't anything fancy. I just used a scuff pad to scuff the clear down, wiped it off and sprayed about 3 light coats. I should have the other eye shadow done by fri. I just personally did not like the way the car looked without it.

I really wanted to go, but that place is way too far. Maybe next yr once I have the LS swap done and the car is a bit more reliable.

Thank you, are you happy with them on the car? They look to be a bit different than the originals. I found a set of originals but they are expensive.

Yea, the factory one is like a tri-color red, this one is a solid red, and I prefer that way.

Re: Another red z28 (Sa, Tx) "Ginger"
Word of warning; Bexar County Sherrifs and some of the small cities WILL ticket for having the license plate in the window. I know the state statute only says "must be displayed to the front of the vehicle", but they interpret that as "physically bolted to the front of the car". Last time I barely got out of a $200 ticket for the same because the deputy pulled me over in Converse, but tried to send me to court on the South side (flagrant jurisdiction violation). The magistrate ~grudgingly~ dismissed it, but still had to go through the hassle. Considering my car is tagged, inspected, fully functional, and I obey traffic laws, all it served to do was give them an excuse to pull me over where otherwise they had none.

Re: Another red z28 (Sa, Tx) "Ginger"
Have you given any concideration to painting the headlight buckets black? I think it would look just that much better that way.
