Another no Crank no Start

ok gentleman, I have been searching all over on what to do with my car. I have an automatic 350 TBI disabled vats. I have power at the starter on the big red wire and even the small wire when the key is in the start position but I get nothing, Fuel pump does come on and will prime. Its also a new starter as well. I checked voltage at the purple wire and it is right at 11.8 volts. So I know its not the neutral safety switch or vats. has any one come across this before. any insight would be great. Thanks in advanced

You have power to the "S" terminal, you have main power to the large top-mounted power stud, but the starter doesn't crank?

1. Bad ground from starter motor to battery - terminal.

2. Failed or incorrect starter solenoid.

3. Purple wire that should be connected to the "S" terminal is improperly connected to the "R" terminal. Not all solenoids have an R terminal.

Re: Another no Crank no Start

well I went back and looked at it again. I do have the purple wire on the S terminal.
I did jump the solenoid and it did jump
I even added a ground from starter to motor and still nothing. thanks for those great inputs and I was really hoping I did just misplace the purple wire but nothing still
no start no crank

What does that mean? It cranks if you connect the S terminal to the big power cable?

If that's the case, it may be possible that solenoid is defective, but more likely, you aren't getting sufficient power (amperage) through the purple wire to the S terminal. Corroded connections, faulty contacts in the ignition switch, etc. Lack of current makes for lack of magnetism, the plunger isn't pulled in far enough (or at all) and the motor doesn't crank.

Some folks (me, for instance) use a relay or Ford solenoid to remove the load from the purple wire. Kits are available to accomplish this, or you can buy 'n' fabricate the pieces needed. The purple wire generally has enough current capacity to power the relay or Ford solenoid, then that powers the existing starter solenoid through new, low-resistance wiring.

thanks again I will have to look into one of these kits. I would like to see if I can follow the purple wire and test resistance as well though. I just need to get the car started. Thanks again for your input
