2.8 MPFI MAF to MAP help!
Colleagues:
Ive got a deaf MAF sensor in my 88 2.8 V6 MPFI.
I already tried a A1Cardone reman: dead on arrival (seems A1C have had a lot of QC problems since moving production to Mexico, and based on a visual inspection of this "reman" MAF I can see why - but I digress).
So faced with the prospect of a 300$CAD + tax @ 15% new MAF, I find myself thinking dark thoughts about ditching the POS altogether spending the cash on the more reliable MAP setup.
Ive tried to find an authority on this but there's no one page that reveals all (that I have been able to find). So far Ive managed to piece together the following:
1. Yes your 88 V6 2.8 MPFI can be moved from MAF to MAP
2. You need a new computer and do some soldering
3. You need a new MAP and hook it up properly
4. You might need a PROM programmer to get it "just right"
I currently have a 302 ECU. ive found upgrade instructions to 165 and from there I believe I need a 749. I can solder.
Im desparate for some info so I can enjoy the car a bit with what remains of the summer. Here in Atlantic Canada there are no MAF available without 2 weeks delivery time - and as I said Ive already wasted 2 weeks waiting for a dead one.
Can someone point me in the direction of systematic or at least complete instructions?
Note, the 2.8 is in a TR7, so Im already familiar with the wiring loom, sensors and all that. Just need specifics on how to get rid of this POS MAF.
Thanks guys!
