What parts to run questions
I have some questions for the guys running modified 3rd gens.
For starters, I just got my stage 3 TR6060 from Texas Drivetrain and would like a trans crossmember with the torque arm relocation that I can use the stock torque arm for now. I will be changing it in spring but because of money, I just want to get the trans in the car so it can be driven until I get the new rearend.
I'm definitely changing the rear because I don't trust the rear I have ( Out of a 99 Z28 with auburn carrier and 4:10's). Was looking at the Currie, Moser and a few other Ford 9"s. What are you guy's running? I had a Chris Alston FAB9 in my 68 Camaro but haven't really seen them for the 3rd gen. The car is mostly a driver but would like to do some roadracing possibly with it. Planning on Wilwood disc front and back. I want to keep it somewhat affordable but only want to do it once. I would definitely want to keep the sway bar and panhard bar.
Has anyone used these 8.8's : http://www.hawksthirdgenparts.com/ha...ustom-lengths/
Are these the 8.8's from a Mustang?
What are the best subframe connectors out there? I have been looking at this on : http://www.hawksthirdgenparts.com/s-...me-connectors/ . I would probably weld it in after they are fitted.
What is the widest 17" tire we can fit on the back without mini-tubbing? I would like to run at least a 315 on the rear but would prefer not to cut it up.
Sorry for all the questions. I just want to get the chassis rock solid before I add any more power or hook it up. Thank you in advance.

The rears in your link are the heavy Explorer or pickup 8.8 housings. 3-1/4" x 1/4" wall axle tubes and a big ugly guard lugs up top for the abs sensor.
When i build one of those, i cut those lugs from the top and grind down all that extra metal, then plug the abs hole with a small freeze plug...
...
Not sure why they bother welding the tubes to the housing when it's made for a torque arm.

Re: What parts to run questions
The hawks 8.8 is nearly as much as a 9", so its appeal is very limited. They're supposed to be a budget axle for DIY-ers, totally missed the goal
Granny, Ive ran the explorer 8.8 in a few 3rd gens with the flange intact and had no clearance issues. Welding the tubes isnt required but most customers request it anyways

Re: What parts to run questions
I've got the UMI frame connectors and adjustable torque arm and crossmember. The SF connectors are weld in. I also have the adjustable LCA's from Founder's. Lot less than other companies out there. Currently running a stock T5 and 9 bolt with 3.73's with a modded 350TPI and procharger. It's held up thus far because I don't power shift the car, but in my other cars I have always used Moser 9's because they seem to bolt right in without issues. My friends shop is putting together one for my '87 as I type with a Wavetrac center section and 3.80's with 35 spline axles. Has the stock torque mount location on it and LCA relocation brackets to adjust pinion angle. He's getting me a set of big Ford drums and hardware to put on instead of the disk kit. Saves about $450 in cost.
I think there's a guy on here running an 11" tire in the back. I've run a 10" slick before.
