1996 V6 T5 swap

Alright, I'm new here and I know I will probably be hated for posting this redundant question, but I can't seem to find a definitive answer to this.
I have a 1987 IROC-Z. It came with a 305TPI, 700r4 trans. The engine has been replaced with a carbureted 350. (GM 5.7 LG SGI is on the drivers side on the back of the block). The 700r4 is slipping bad when changing gears and frankly, I hate automatics.
A buddy of mine is going to sell me a T5 that he got out of a 4th gen Camaro (It was behind a LT1). I took it home to run tag numbers. It's a World Class T5 with no bell housing that originally came out of a 1996 v6 Camaro. Is this even possible to swap? Internal slave, 26 spline input, 27 spline output. Is it possible to keep the internal slave setup and just run hydraulics for a 96 Camaro? What clutch to use? Pedal assembly? He only wants $100 for it. And I'll rebuild it before install but if it's not going to work, then it's a waste of 100 bucks. Thanks.

First, make absolutely SURE it's a T5 and not a T56. The T5 was only used in the V6 fourth gens. The T56 was used in the LT1 V8s. If it's a T56, TAKE IT! They simply can't be found for anything close to that price. If it turns out the PO of that fourthgen swapped in a T5, then I'd pass on it. The bolt pattern on the front isn't right for a thirdgen bellhousing.

I'm 100% sure it is not a T56. I wish it was :/

The gen 4 camaro pedals will fit in your 3rd gen. However, I did the swap with a 94 t5 with an external slave and had serious issues with the clutch because the 3rd gen pedal stroke is longer than the fourth gen. I had to move the pivot point on the pedal and then adjust the angle of the clutch master cylinder. I'm not sure if your clutch will have the same problem, but either way I would suggest getting a 3rd gen pedal assembly.

Re: 1996 V6 T5 swap

The internal gearing is pretty limp for a V8, but will get the car down the road

Biggest hurdle is the front bolt pattern is ford toploader. You might find a scattershield with that pattern for a SBC, but it wont be cheap

If you know how to disassemble a manual trans, then find a 3rd gen WC T5 main case and swap all the guts into it. V6 or V8, both had the SBC flange. If you need one, Ive got one for $50

Retaining the HTOB isnt hard. Use the 4th gen hydraulics and bore a hole in your BH. You cant take the trans off the BH anymore, but it will work and give lots of clearance. Buying a speed bleeder line is a huge help since the OEM bleeder is deep inside the BH

After all that is handled, you'll need to solve the VSS issue. That trans uses a 17 tooth reluctor identical to T56's. You need a cable output, so swap a 3rd gen tail housing on with the speed bullet
