Corvette 2-4 servo install help
I ordered a Corvette 2-4 for the 700r4 in my Formula last night. When it gets here I'm a little concerned about the install. Not that the servo itself is complicated, but I'm more worried about GETTING to it. Is removing the cross member and jacking it down going to be enough to get to the servo housing? Will I need to remove the universal joint? Another guy online said he had to lower his trans almost all the way to the floor. Will it lower that far still bolted to the engine with the universal joints attached? I've never dropped a trans like this before, so want good advice before moving on it.

Re: Corvette 2-4 servo install help
This article doesn't say anything about dropping the trans at all. He just says to take the servo out piece by piece. This might work, although he's talking about a truck, may be less room on a thirdgen.

Re: Corvette 2-4 servo install help
The above article is BS. You cannot pull the 2-4 servo out of a thirdgen, there is not room. I tried pulling it out piece by piece, no dice. I even got the clip off the pin, but the final piston would not come out, even when I tried to depress the pin. The apply piston would come off the pin, but the pin would not clear the lip of the piston. The transmission tunnel is jut to narrow. If anyone has done this w/o dropping the trans, or has some tricks let me know. I'm a rookie at this, and am open for suggestions.

I can get my servo out by removing the cross-member. Use a jack to lower the trans. A few inches is all it takes.

Re: Corvette 2-4 servo install help
Grrrrrr....I was hoping you wouldn't say that. I just had the cm off today because I did a filter change, and had to remove it to get to the pan bolts. When we tried to put it back on the cm bolt holes didn't line up. One of us had to use a breaker bar against the tunnel to move the tranny over and hold it while the other out the bolts back in. It moved over about 3/8" even though we put a bottle jack on the tailpiece. Btw, how low is safe? Do I need to keep something under the tail at all times, or is it safe to just detach the cm and let it drop all the way? I guess I may as well do the governor change I've been thinking about too, while I have it dropped. Thx, but still @&%#......
