Manual valve body 700r4 help

I bought a 88 camaro with a manual valve body an I'm trying to figure out if it still has an auto still or if its sole Manuel and will it still have automatic overdrive?

Re: Manual valve body 700r4 help

i am pretty sure the only manual valve bodies available for the 700r4 is full manual. meaning that it will not automatically shift. it will still have all 4 gears though.

Because OD is 4th gear, and in an unmodified auto trans, putting it in that selection allows the trans to shift all the way through all 4 gears instead of stopping at some lower one. It's the "normal" gear selection.

Generally, a full manual valve body totally defeats automatic shifting. That being THE POINT of a "full manual valve body" in the first place. Most often, when someone puts such a thing into a transmission, they don't change the gear indicator lettering on the shift quadrant, although I suppose it's possible that it might have been done once somewhere in history. It's unrealistic to expect the dash/console trim to tell you what modifications have been done to the trans itself.

But the only ways to know for sure how whoever modified it, is to find them and ask them what they did and what they put in it; or, just drive it and see what it does. None of us out here (unless one of us was the builder) has any better way than you do of knowing what they did and what still works as it did originally, now that you own it.

Go test it and come back and tell us whether it still has automatic overdrive. I'm guessing though, that if it really has a "full manual valve body", you'll find it still has overdrive, but it's now "fully manual" instead of "automatic".

Re: Manual valve body 700r4 help

B&M made one that is both..i have one in one of my 700R4s.

ya can hold it in gear to any RPM shifts Hard .. or just pop it in drive or OD and drive like a MoM... still shifts hard with Ea shift.. I like it so much. I did not want to get rid of it and did a 2nd case for my trans brake set up 700R4..(yes it ***** into all 4 gears when just put into OD and driving..)

Maybe might if you have one of these maybe possibly could be maybe...

Go drive it and tell us what it does, or find who built it and get the details. Come back in the spring if that's what it takes. Боже willing we'll all still be here.

Going to hijack here. Anybody know if a full manual valve body still allows for converter lock up.
