Oil pump prime, and fuel issue
Here was my situation: I just re-installed the 2.8 in my neighbors Camaro after his son bottomed out, and after all is said and done, he took out 4 rod bearings, and the rods, and the crank. I rebuilt it and when I primed the oil pump, fuel sprayed everywhere from the supply line. The supply and return lines were not connected yet, but the supply has vise grips on it so it wouldn't leak everywhere. The battery was connected to the starter, and the oil pressure sending unit, and the safety switch was all that was connected at the time. Does anyone have any ideas as to why the fuel sprayed like that? And the key wasn't in the ignition either.

My guess is because the safety switch was connected. The safety switch doesn't act like most people think...
It does NOT stop the fuel pump if there's low oil pressure. Nope!! The pump will run if there's 0 oil pressure.
What it does do, is turn the fuel pump on when it sees oil pressure. So I think by priming the pump, you caused the safety switch to see oil pressure, so it turned the pump on. Dead head pressure of the pump is 60 psi, which might've been more than the vise grips could handle.

Thank you. It was definetly more than they could handle! If you could imagine a guyser of fuel shooting about 2 feet straight up, it was a startling sight.
Thanks again.
Thanks again.
