Aluminum IROC center caps

Anyone ever had a set made..made a set..bought a set of aluminum IROC wheel center caps?I found an old post with onebinky(?) showing a set he made.I would really like to do something like this as opposed to the plastic GM ones that way I can polish them to match the wheels when they are done.

I ran into a similar problem with my rims after polishing them. The rims turned out great, however the centers were old and not very attractive. What I did was painted the caps with the same dark metallic gray that I used for the backgrounds on the rims. It looks pretty good. I realize polished aluminum centers would have loked nicer, but finding them and having the same metal colour might be difficult.

We (at Mallory Billet Aluminum Products) have made sets for various 4th gen, Boyds, and Torque Thrust II rims. If a few of you guys got together and wanted them, I could try and convince the general manager to let me design it, and put them in production...

Andris,

How much do you guys charge for the 4th gen center caps and such?I am just trying to get a basic idea on pricing so we have a starting point.I would be more than willing to pop for a set!Let me know a basic idea on pricing and how many definites you would need to get this ball rolling? Is etching a possibility?Like in my case I would like to get Z28 etched into them if they were made?

On another note..how is the car coming along?Glad to see you still own it after all these years, seems like everyone has sold theirs anymore..use to talk with you a few times in Spring Valley? You may remember my car..check my sig!

OneBadZ,
I just had a conversation w/ our general manager about the centercaps. We've got the 4th gen ones shown under the "whats new" tab at www.mbaproducts.com. We'd need 10 commited folks to get the centercaps into production (and I could either find a third-gen camaro rim here or you could swing by, and I'd take measurements from yours... Mine are long gone...). They are bolted in from the inside, so we'd be CNC machining four inside "washers", the outer centercaps, then CNC engraving "IROC", "Z28", or even something custom on the centercap, so it'd actually be machined on the face, and not just painted on or a sticker. Price would be ballpark around $100 for the set of four engraved w/ backing plates and bolts, and credit cards would be be collected, but not charged until the centercaps shipped.

Spring Valley's been a while ago! I stopped going once the ricers started annoying everyone. Is it still going on? The car gets wilder every year, and is turning more into a road racing track beast (w/ license plates). This winter I'm fabbing a dual NASCAR style side exit exhaust from the turbos back, and replacing the decoupled torque arm to a more road race friendly fabbed 3rd link setup. Random updates got posted to http://www.skulte.com/turbo.html.

Please be advised that IF there was enough interest generated to make these caps, it would take at LEAST 3-4 Months before we would eb able to do anything.

Example of what I did for my plain center caps, I had IROC-Z decals made at a sign shop for around $10.00.

I could also ship a wheel to you guys for designing the center caps as they are unmounted and stripped and sanded for polishing.

That would make it easier as whomever may buy in would have more time to save for them. How would I go about setting this up.If I get a definite 10 people do I inform them to give you a call with a credit card number to buy in for a set?I am a definite as of today and can ship a rim to you guys for design and development. We need nine more guys.Anyone out there interested in a set of Iroc center caps? These will be for the 85-87 model years Iroc wheels?

Yeah, but those look to be aftermarket or even forth gen wheels. The Iroc wheels have black plastic center caps. These would be bolt in aluminum canter caps for 85-87 Iroc wheels..an actual aluminum insert that bolts on (not as easy to steal for the losers that have my original set from GM) and can be engraved with iroc,z28,etc..and then polished to match the polished wheel as many board members have on their cars.

it would be awesome if you could make a polished version of the 88-90 style iroc-z center caps. i am polishing mine and agree that a smooth polished center cap will finish it off just right. for a 100 bucks engraved that aint too bad of a price.

Our CNC lathes are tied up for the next 10-12 weeks, as Paul (our MBA sales manager) mentioned, but the prototype work can get completed so it would be ready to run as soon as they open up. The wheel DJP87Z28 posted is for the earlier 4th gen 17x9 WS6, which we have the centercaps made for. I've got ZR1 rims, which could be a possibility as well.

If 10 people are interested, Paul would handle the sales side of the centercaps, and I would do the design/prototype work. We've had the centercaps polished before as well, which really makes the CNC engraving stand out (We can engrave the thirdgen.org logo!).

Year/Model differences so far:
85-87
88-90
15x7.5" vs 16x8"?

I am in for a set of 85-87 16x8 Irocs...with the Z28 logo!

Timeline is no biggee...hopefully that helps us get more people on board for this.We need 10 people to get one specific center cap made up correct?Or can we do 3 people for the 85-87..4 for the 88-90,etc?I just want to be specific for whomever reads this and is interested!

"but the prototype work can get completed so it would be ready to run as soon as they open up"

Let me know as soon as you guys need a wheel to do mock up or whatever..I can ship it tomorrow if needed.Or do we need a list of 10 definites first?

im def in. lookin for the same as onebadz 16x8 with z28 on the center cap. if it makes it easier for you onebadz i could drop off a wheel to them im not that far and it would save you on the shipping. i posted on ctfba to see if any of the member would be interested so well c how it goes. i hope this works out cause these would look super cool.

onebad28Z,

Someone from here, possibly you, would need to coordinate this and keep track of who is in ona set.
Once you get a list of people that meets the 10 sets you can send me the list of names along with their info.

They can then contact me with their Credit card info.
There are no COD's and all info must be here before we make anything.

Each year/style of cap would require the min of 10 sets.

If you have any question contact me at
My Email

1.onebad82z (me):85-87 with Z28
2.camaro430sut:85-87 with Z28..please send me your info?

If enyone else is interested please send me an email at onebad82z@excite.com
or john.winship@cmjackson.com with what year (85-87 or 88-90) and design (Iroc,Z28,etc) you want on the center cap along with your full name and username here on the board.Just names and info.Once we have a set list of 10 or more definites I will get in contact P.Roz to then take the next step.

I made these in a matter of 30 minutes with a lathe, very easy. One thing you must be aware of, the front caps will be difficult to mount as the dust cover is only about 1/4" (if that far) away from the center-cap if mounted flush with a flat back. I used a novel idea, just used red threadlocker to attach them, have driven them like this over 18 months, never lost one, and they can be knocked out from behind when changing/balancing tires.

If we got the IROC-Z engraved on it, is that going to be just like the logo, or just some generic lettering?

Off topic: Andris, ever get those wheels put on? Any pics yet?

On topic: how many people are in on this currently total? Thinking of getting a set if I polish my wheels while I get the tires changed.

Let's not turn this into a post about which year is best!We all have our opinions.I am trying to get this setup so we can have a lil added flash to all those polished 85-87 IROC's rollin around.Want a set for 88-90 wheels?Convince 9 other people that they want them also..send me all of your info...we will need an 88-90 wheel to send to MBA for design and production...and you will have your set.

You mean to tell me there isn't five others that want a set of these?

I wanted a set of these 7-8 yrs ago...I found that classic industries sold billet aluminum caps for around 100.00 here`s a picture, they secure from the rear with a allen head bolt and a large aluminum washer

Those are the exact ones I originally wanted as I had remembered seeing them in Classic Industries catalogs years back. Now that I want to get them for sure..I can no longer find them in the catalog, and when I called they were said to be discontinued!Do you by any chance have the part number for them?..maybe if I call up with a part number I can get somewhere!

I aslo posted this on CamaroZ28.com and NEThirdgen.org..got a total of 1 response from Camaroz28.com..DarthIROC

Get anyone to turn them and the emblem can be easily etched into them. I preferred blank.

We get five more definites and we can get whatever we want engraved into them..or leave them blank. We can also polish them to match for those of us with polished IROC's or leave them as they will be machined to match the factory supplied IROC look.

I am definately interested, I have the 85-87 16x8 polished IROC's and would like a set with IROC-Z engraved on it. I didn't have time to read all the posts cause I have classes but I'll check back later and see what info I need to leave here.
