Vortec StealthRam

If anyone is at SEMA take a look at the rapid prototype of the Vortec StealthRam. Production parts should ship first of January.

Great to see you back on the board Doug.

Since you're likely to get a flurry of 200 questions, I'd like to start:

Will initial offerings be as a complete turn-key system just like the original Stealth Ram, or will the individual parts (plenum, runners, rails, regulator) be available right away?

Has pricing been established?

Does holley have any horsepower stats with the vortec head combo?

Anyway, thanks for taking the time to ask for our input back when you originally asked about interest in the Vortec Stealth Ram. Hopefully our input was at least partly what convinced you guys to go ahead and build this.

The offering of the stealthram for vortec heads has been what made me hold off on upgrading my stock TPI components that are on top of my e-tec heads at the moment... looking forward to it!!

Question 1,000,001

Now that BBK has plans to release a new intake for TPI cars, and given that they usually certify their parts for KARB, does Holley have any plans to attempt such a maneuver with the Vortec Stealth Ram? Just dredging up a concern from the original VSR post.

K

Since Vortec heads don't have EGR provisions, I would guess that the Vortec intake isn't going to achive 49 state legality.

Bah, just get a pin on hood and take your car to the state inspection line with all the old guys in it.

It's about F'n time. I've held out on port injection because I didn't like any of the long runner TPI setups (sorry guys) and I really hated the Lt1/minirams with their super small plenum volume. Finally the StealthRam came out but not for vortec heads , I was SO upset that I was about to buy standard heads.... not anymore , I'm happy.

Hey JP, youd rather have TB Vortec over TPI vortec?

Yeah, I like the shorter larger intake runners of the RPM carb intake better than the long small runner design of TPI. I also don't have $$$ to get the high flow TPI parts AND that $$$ vortec base.
I was looking for a cheap single plane vortec intake at the last swap meet at e-town, now I'm waiting for the StealthRam to start shipping.

D F almost never posts replies to questions, I dont think he gets email notification of thread activity or wont respond. He's just helping advertise their products that will be out soon. I'm interested but we will either have to get pics or a write up from somebody whose seen the thing for more info.

Just sucks being out there with no more intel on these new parts.

Maybe I'm just busy

Just trying to help you guys out. I don't get commission on parts sales I'm just a fellow hotrodder.

I also moderate at chevytalk.com, trying to help people with any EFI questions for anyones products and I post there every day.

Jim,

The only rapid prototype in existance right now is at SEMA. I will dyno test it when it gets back.

It will be available just as the current parts are, manifold and plenum, rail kits, and complete MPFI systems. Costing will be about the same as it is.

It is slightly shorter than the current version, but not much.

I think you should be able to have a very economical 400 HP engine.

Slightly shorter sounds like good news for firebird hood clearance!!

I'd like to thank you for your generous efforts in this matter, btw.

Holy smoke Batman D F replied. I did not mean that in a negative way, just as information to the guys posting question after question. We like new products around here.

Hey any idea yet on how much shorter? Any "tilt" added to the throttle body? A little tilt on the TB and .5" and that thing starts clearing pontiac hoods I bet. That's as long as you dont have aftermarket motor(engine) mounts

You guys complaining about the hood clearance and TB angle... just fabricate your own plenum. I just want the base, I've got everything else and am planning on running a carbon fiber plenum with a rather unique looking dual TB design. Look at the Gale Banks TT setup and you'll see the kind of plenum I'm going to build, only the genral idea.

After checking with the designer, the height will be about the same. There are plans to do a new lower profile angled plenum in the near future however.

Many thanks for replying to the guys with Vortec heads. May I ask another question? When is the HSR for 1206 gasket heads coming out? Is it still planned? WIll this be a low profile design or not?

Many thanks for any information you can give!

So i bought my snazzy looking RA1 hood to make room for the HSR without ghettoing up my stock for nothing.

D F I hope this is true and it will be out soon. Honestly it's probably how it should have been offered from the start. It's been good for the fiberglass hood industry but costly for TPI owner's.

Please keep us posted on the new plenum as that's important to some around here wanting to switch. I guess I'll buy the base and fuel rails when available but will wait on the new plenum.

Yeah read up in the post its supposed to be the same as regular HSR. I'm just glad to see a pic of one and hear about the new low rise plenum. Their throttle bodies are just badass, far better than the BBK part.

Those pictures are of a real casted product, not a rapid prototype. Looks like it's definatly happening . I hope it goes on sale before Christmas, then I can ask for a few little goodies.

not to beat this to death but for what its worth i called holley today and the guy i talked to said to look for it around the beginning of the year and that it would be the same height as the regular stealth ram

I'm really surpised Holley didn't just release this intake when they did the regular Stealth Ram. There have been COUNTLESS threads on thirdgen forums (especially this one) about wanting to run vortec heads and keep some form of port injection. The SDPC vortec base seemed kind of a weak (and expensive) option.

Yeah, but I'm just happy its going to happen at all now!! I'm planning to get one as soon as they're ready to ship... Hopefully someone will want to buy my SDPC vortec baseplate..

I can bet on one thing though; Holley will not regret making this product. Offering an auxilliary upper plenum for added hood clearance would be a great addition as well, maybe we'll see that in the near future.

dood screw the Vortec... what about 50 state legal for us CA boys???? our only option is the super ram.

come on Doug, send a unit out to CARB and get some CA business.

(think about it, CA has the most people in any state, and proably the most camaros, you're losing a lot of business)

i like how the coolant holes are all facing upward, cept for that one on the right (which is still ok). I got the normal HSR on right now, n' the plug for my temp sender is hitting the serpentine belt system bracket. I could've notched the bracket i suppose, but with this new base, looks like you won't have to.

Too bad they can't get it out a month earlier... I'd love to see one sitting under my X-mas tree
While were on the topic of Holley TPI stuff. How about a throttle body with nitrous passages like the LT1 version. Shouldn't be too tough to make.
