Quick question. I am about to bolt the transmission (700r4) back up to the motor and I was wondering if the bearing thing in the crank is supposed to turn freely or not? It seems like it's rusted tight. Any help is much appreciated.

Yea it's in the back of the crank. Do automatics have pilot bearing? The car the motor came out of was setup for an automatic. It didn't have a clutch or anything.
Re: Crankshaft to transmission pivot bearing thing
Has the motor ever been rebuilt?
Maybe someone threw in a 305 crank for manual trans, it happens.
or maybe was going to do a manual swap and changed mind?
Think thirds used a bushing not a bearing so its not factory.
Whatever the reason, id remove it.
Re: Crankshaft to transmission pivot bearing thing
That bearing won't bother the converter. It doesn't go into that hole in the crank. It's not bothering anything as long as the car has an automatic.
Personally I'd just leave it. Sure, the car will go faster without it (it's what, an ounce of dead weight, or whatever), but looking at that mess in there with all that rust, it'd be far more trouble than it's worth to try to remove it.
