pilot bearing question

pilot bearing question

probably a stupid question but in going to ask it anyway. which one is better the bushing or the needle bearing. also do automatics have the same pilot bearing/bushing as a T5 manual trans. thanks for the help

I prefer the bearing; but either is fine.

No. Automatics don't have a pilot bearing at all. The converter has its own pilot that fits directly to the crank itself.

so if i put a pilot bearing in to run a manual trans, and later on down the road i want to run an automatic would i have to pull the pilot bearing out.

No. It doesn't get in the way.

You can see the bearing for the manual trans. The converter pilot goes into the large circular place, about 1½" in diameter.
