my car in all her greatness and failure - customized front end

I'm happy and sad. For those of you who dont know me im 17 years old and own a 1990 iroc. I spent 6 hours waxing the car about a week ago and this is the first really nice day ive had to take pics so i washed her up and took a few in the drive way.

In the head on shot you can somewhat see the custom work that i did to the front end. The turn signals were removed and the center section cut out and the whole area was meshed off with thick steel mesh (thick enough it needed to be bent on a sheet metal bender so it doesnt look cheap and/or *****). For now its not serving much function but once i get all of the mechanical problems on my car worked out a sheet metal box is going accross the entire center section as a big CAI and the stock latch will be removed and replaced with hood pins (have em just need to be installed) and some other form of locking mechanism. The area of the turn signals that i meshed off is going to have ducting that runs straight back to air cooled front brakes. So even if you dont like the meshed off front end it is going to be completly functional.

You can also see the evidence of my little accident. I had an accident at the end of last summer and was force to replace the front bumper cover. The paint matches well on the hood and on the passenger 1/4 panel but not on the bumper cover to drivers side quarter panel. I actually just noticed this as its the first time ive had the car in the light and it makes me really sad but theres not much i can do right now seeing as i dont have the money to repaint the entire car.

As for other negative aspects the weather stripping on the windshield is popping out and needs replacing and i didnt bother cleaning the tires because im getting a set of goodyear eagle F1 GS-D3's tmw. I think thats about it, oh and as for my turn signals my car is ummm....not driven?...right now, at some point in the near future im fabricating up a thin bar of LED's to go accross the top of the opening where the turn signals should be and those will serve as functional turn signals.a

and here are the pics

Well the shade just moved over the 1/4 panel and the car looks perfect. It was taken to be repainted at the same place the car was originally painted silver but they only had the bumper cover to go off of. It would have been almost impossible to match the colour because the car has a pearl in it so it changes shade in different light. Ill get some pictures of it at night under a street light soon the car is a nice colour during the day, but the shade it turns at night is unreal it looks so nice i cant even believe i own the car

Looks great Doug...

I'm a big fan of function, especially when it looks good.

Not too sure about the cow catcher, but how are you going to cool the brakes? Are the wheels/tires not in the way?

lol cow catchers eh. Umm from the turn signals there is a path straight back to just inside the wheel so you run it back and then the tip of it points inward to the wheel so that the air is pointed right on the top of the disc and goes inbetween it

looks good bro.

another idea would be to do the same metal ducting, but have a larger box go up to the TPI Air filters.....

:lala: lala...ya thats what im doing. Middle section is going to be a huge aluminum cold air intake up to the tpi filters and probably going to make a custom air box up at some point. The turn signal openings are getting plastic ducting and run straight back for air cooled brakes

That looks really good. I like the front end, and normally I hate IROCs without fog lights. That silver is really nice looking too. Just match the whole car and get some nice chrome rims and that will be one of the best looking cars here.

not a chance on that the black grill is an accent it wouldnt look good as polished up on a silver car. When the car eventually gets painted its going to get some black stripes down the middle like ive never seen before that run tip to tip, and the mesh black is a nice accent.

Wont happen for a bit, money comes in slowly and have to save up for an aftermarket 5 or 6 speed shifter, possibly something by richmond we'll see.

very, very nice! What color silver is your car? I think you have a cool idea there with the turn signals if it can be effectively done. And I agree, definitely stay black with the grill. Silver and black make for a nice contrast (which is why that's going to be my color scheme ) Look for my post in a week or two showing my engine compartment being painted

its basically a metallic silver. theres a car on a local board that literally looks the exact same and hes using a mercedes metalic silver colour. When i get the whole thing repainted im going to go with a metallic silver, probably with a little bit of black in it so i get that darker colour that i have on the door, and a ton of pearl. The way this car looks at night under a street light is obscene the whole car changes to this just rediculously awesome silver i cant even describe it. Every time when i get back to my car at night after leaving it in a parking lot or whatever i walk up and have to do a double take and go, do i really own this? holy crap this looks cool!

lol go for it. The thing that i think makes it look the best is the pocket for the turn signals i had painted a matt black, so when you look at the fact that it goes inwards you cant even tell its like its there but its not. Also realize youre going to spend a ton of time with a dremel if you want to do that. Theres no reason for cutting out the center section between the fog lights i just did it to be different. But the back of the turn signal housing has a bunch of material that needs to be cut away
