Thank you again George- We installed mine today.
Mentally it takes a little geting use to when you have been driving a car with a shifter gate a certain way for years then suddenly you change the sequence, but after a day of driving it I am already getting the swing of it.
"Me likes it very much" and the installation George did went very quick even given that I kept him BSing while he was trying to document the process for an instructional pamplet with photos
I love the 2nd to D and D to 2nd modulation lockouts for road driving.
Even though I don't have massive power in this car 1st still climbs fairly quickly and would shift on its own with the governor @ 4600 in a corner and 5200 straightline. I can now lock it down and took it to 5500 and manually bumped it and it slams deliberately and firmly into 2nd. I can now hold it into first while excelerating around a corner without it bumping into 2nd until I am about through the corner and them manually slam it into 2nd without overriding while sitting laterally on edge and fighting to stay in the seat (p.s. George will contest to the effort needed to stay in the seat in this car- not to mention I throw it around like a banshee) I think Goerge was my first co-pilot in this car of anyone here (or should I say victim) Edit: the other thing I should add is that when I tried to manually shift it from 1st to 2nd before this install it would alway bump to far into D as I was hanging on sideways and gripping the stock shifter for support while trying to shift- now just cinch the button as you move it forwad and it will not go further no matter how much the car is throwing you about through a corner.
I know it was built for the drag guys, but it works for the road guys also going up and down the gate.
Goodjob- Vsixtoy says thumbs up and thank you.

Lon, that was the reason for the Tech Session ... Both you and Tom F. are left. Didn't you get my email? I designed this gate plate with a Firebird shifter, but it works on both Camaros and Firebirds. Though I may need some pictures from your Firebird in case there are some differences. Also, Tom F.'s car is a great sample as well, since he retrofitted an F-Body shifter into a G-Body (expands our market, while more enthusiast can benefit from more positive shifts). The only vehicle I need to test it out on, or should I say get info from, is the early models like my old '84 L69 ... But I believe I know who's car I can use.
Dean, I am glad you like it, it was a pleasure (as always) to talk with you. No worries about the BSing, it made the install go by quick. And yes, I hanging on for my dear life! That thing handle WAAYYY better than the Redd Rocket or Blue Bunny ever did.
Here is the story with the shift pattern (this will be in the install guide) for Camaros or round/square shift ***** (detent button on top):
1st --> 2nd place the palm of you hand on the **** and push forward, be sure the detent button is fully depressed.
2nd --> 3rd just push the shifter lever forward into 3rd.
3rd --> 4th Push the detent button down and push the lever forward.
Down shifting is similar to upshifting:
4th --> 3rd Palm the detent button down and pull the lever towards the rear.
3rd --> 2nd just pull the shifter lever back into 2nd.
2nd --> 1st place the palm of you hand on the **** and pull back, be sure the detent button is fully depressed.
Note: For Firebirds or T-Handle shift ***** (detent button on the side), just hold the button in, no need to palm the shifter handle.

Okay George,
Downshifting???? No one ever said ANYTHING about down being able to downshift. :nono:
Back at your initial e-mails it was never communicated that downshifting would also be an option. I pictured the typical StarShifter pattern that only let's you upshift quickly thru the gears.
I even mentioned wanting to be able upshift AND downshift like the MegaShifter. Did you modify your design to accomodate this George?
Now that I hear it provides positive downshifting I'm interested. Sign me up!

Hmm, maybe you got the email of the first design. Yeah, I was not happy with the design they wanted to go with ... so I looked at the B&M Pro Bandit and based my design on that. This thing is very So you will be here on the 29th as well? I will put you down!

I knew that statement would bring out the best this forum had to offer.
That's more than I had ... at the time.

Most people have no clue- come for a ride sometime. Your V8's will not hold a candle to this car handling or braking. Hell, Most cars on the road period will not hold a candle to this car. Am I BSing George? These two guys need to learn not to take offence to that statement, it doesn't mean that their cars don't handle well.
Dean
edit- You can't get a V8 to handle like a 60*V6
You can't get a 60*V6 with massive torque like a V8
Its one or the other.
But then again I'm preaching to the sh*t talker squad. I run you people anytime on an AutoX course with street tire (No R compounds) anytime for $$$$ with the 2.8 in it.
Thank you And this time, show the frikin cash first and don't puss out.

(ps the plate does read 60mph in 2 secs, but it is actually 3 secs. 60N3SEC was already taken.) Driving this car beats the crap out of me on the street- I don't want a daily driver with HP like that.

Hey you had weight ballast, which was unfair. Anyway, I had just dropped my camera and I wanted to pick it up from the floor ... yeah, that should work?
Hey can I get a copy of that when we meet up again?

I didn't mention anything about you in my post Dean. Only you can take offense at what was said. All I stated was that my car was stock the last time GPL was able to witness it's handling prowess (or lack of). I don't even know if GPL has ever been in my car. His wife has driven on the street a couple times si i think she's more qualified to talk about the Bunny. I didn't take anything away from you cars capabilities. I'd love to dodge cones with you in the Albertsons parking someday lot but unfortunately I prefere real race tracks like Willow Springs, Buttonwillow, etc. Our cars are built for different things with different goals in mind

I drove it around a few hours today again and the shifter is working great. The first to second lockout is very nice coming around off of left turn lanes. Car would shift on me just as the nose approached the center island on turn exit, no I can maually hold it til I am just clear and then bump itno 2nd wilout fighting it going to D by accident. It was impossible before to do a 1-2 before.

Been almost a month now since its been in there and I am quite happy with it. Thw wife complained at first about the change but she got use to it within a few days and now doesn't mind the double press of the lockout button from D to park (factory style of course wouold shift to N before depressing once into R-P. It now has to be depressed for D-OD, then release to N and depressed a second time to R-P.) She drove it for years one way and we all know how well women adjust to math problems, but she managed- Joke!
The best part of the linkage is not having to depress the detent anymore to downshift from D to 2nd. Those are really the 2 gears I use when sport driving and its nice they have lockouts on either side. I had the car on Calif Speeday last week for some very slow parade lap (they are getting very restrictive at VARA events with the lunch time crowd- it use to be fun) and didn't get to really enjoy it yet on a track.
I gotta stop screwing around with the wifes car- It's just too damn much fun though and has become addictive.
