Air Tools

...what do you guys think about the C&H and Powerforce (made by Ingerson Rand) that they sell at Wal-Mart, I know they are no snap on...or are they...who knows....have any of you owed them for a long time and can attest to quality?

i am building my tool box up, i work at an autobody shop and I need some tools, I have your basic stuff such as 1/4 and 3/8 ratchets and sockets and wrenches. My only air tool i have there is a blue point pistol blow gun. I know i want IRs paln DA, that thing is nice. And the next few things i want are 1/4 drive air ratchet, 1/2" impact gun 3/8 air drill, cut off tool.....i would like to get matco/snap-on/blue point/NAPA(same exact stuff as bluepoint and matco). and IR....but i have a friend that works at WW and can get tools...CHEAP.

I'd say go for the IR stuff. You can get it at sears which means they will warranty it and Matco sells it so they will to. I've never had any problems with ANY of my IR air tools. Love em, love em, love em.

Those CH tools from Walmart aren't too bad. My dad bought the compressor that came with some tools a year or so back. They are fine for household things but for working on a car I'd recommend to spend the extra money and go with a better brands for your compressor and air tools.

craftsman air tools are all made by ingersol rand and are cheaper than getting them from like the matco or strap on man

I am a mechanic and use all craftsman stuff and have never had a problem with any of it (broke a few sockets but thats obvious)
I payed about 9k for the tools I have from sears when compaired to snap on or matco it would have been more like 13k for the same ****!
I used to work with a guy who felt he coulddnt live with out all the matco and snap on and mac tools so his first day of working as a mechanic he jumped on a truck and started a account
that same day he bought a $7,000 box and filled it with everything he could fit in it, tanked him self in $26,000 in tools after comparing his reciepts to the prices of sears tools he could have saved about 8 to 10 grand

THE POINT
the added convience is not worth the extra money and can just get you in alot of trouble

I bought a C-H 1/2 inch impact at Wal-mart about three years ago and it has been great. Had to change a tire on a chip trailer at work and my buddies IR couldn't bust them loose and mine could. I paid $70 and he paid around $200. Get the serious duty one though, not the $30 standard one. Since then I have bought C-H die grinder, 3/8 butterfly impact, and 3/8 rachet. All of them have been great. Also have a Powerforce by IR air drill and it is great, but I don't use it very often.

I turn wrenches for a living also. I agree that IR generally is good stugg, especially the impact guns. As far as air ratchets go, I recommend MAC gear drives. Those things kick ***! I've got one of the 1/4" drives and wish I'd have bought the 3/8" drive one instead of the Snap-On I do have. Granted the Snap-On is a good piece, but not as good as the MAC. Plus the MAC is cheaper!

I like the composite Ingersol Rand tools (gray composite body). I know you can order them on line at Harbor Freight Tools. I have found no better impact wrenches than these. I have blown up MAC, Snappy, Proto, GP, CP and a few others.

I run a Ingersol Rand T-30 compressor at 175 PSI and have had no problems what so ever using them 6-7 days a week 10 hours a day, (except that the gun will snap bolts, studs and nuts if you get a little careless, ya know, when you get pissed off) the 1/2" make 600+ ftlbs torque in reverse at 90 PSI. Cant say that about the others !!! It is also lighter than all the others, so if you do any overhead work, like on a rack, its not so hard on your shoulder.

Check them out:

and the 3/8":

yeah i have a varity of air tools at home, just to have when i need them, i have a craftsman 1/2" impac gun, 450 ft/lbs in reverse, got it for free....long story, and wally world mismarked the 3/8" air ratchet and die grinder kit for $20 instead of 50 or something, so i was like f it...for 20 who cares. I also have some older air tools that my uncle gave me, a 3/8 butter fly, CH i think, a Black and decker DA and a spray gun....oh and i just bought the snap on blow gun...the pistol grip one....$25 ouch.

well i like the snap on stuff, but the IR is good too, lot of it's personal preferance. and sometimes for the money you can't go wrong with some of the off brands or store brands.

I woulnt do just cuz it Wal-Mart. I mean I have no clue they might be a good brand so if it fits your budget GET IT. Air toolz ROCK! Hey you know there is one good thing about walmart and thats kinda like a life time warrenty. You dont have to have a recipt to return anything. Just take it up there and they give you store credit, not cash. So if it breaks just take it back and get another one. Then only thing they might ask for is an ID. I bought some of that bondo in a cheese can to fill in cracks in the fiberglass speaker box. Well the **** proved to be worth nothing @ all...heh..dries in the sun WTF....its not even solid its like a foam. Well I used half the can then took the rest back to walmart and got my credits worth. HA! no Id no recipt just a can of krap.

I just bought my first decent sized tool box a few months ago and I am starting to build my tool collection. I have always used my dads but now I am getting my own. Anyways I bought an IR air chisel from home depot for like ten bucks. I bought it because I was removing a basketball pole from my backyard that had massive amounts of cement poured around the bottom. I beat on that air chisel for three hot summer days and it still works like new. Seems to be good stuff. Also anything you buy from Harbor freight is guranteed for life so ya cant go wrong there.

if your using the stuff everyday, get the good stuff.
ive an IR 2131, it's a composite 1/2 impact, it had a reputation in the shop for being the "big dog" when somethign wouldn't come off, they'd steal mine .
as for the choice between buying it from walmart of a tool truck. when working every day i'd rather buy from the truck, if it screws up they often can fix it on the truck, or give you a loaner till it's fixed. it's important to have a good relationship with those guys

even if they are the devil
