Heads.

I know this is going to be a dumb question but i need some numbers. The aftermarket heads are pretty expenive and i wanted to know if i port out my stock heads, will they come close to the aftermarket kind?... thinking of the edlbrock they are 999.95 and world makes some high po cast iron ones.. that sell for 799.89 and i think i might just save money and port out the ones i will be getting from the gm dealership when i get my create engine in april.

Thanks.

If you are getting GM Goodwrench 350 crate engine you will be needing more then just new heads.

Good information, now lets actually help here.

Depending on the route you want to go. For the price of the Edelbrocks, there are quite a few others.

If you want to save a little money, and get some rather good gains the Vortec heads are proven and cheap.

BTW, if you are getting a GM 350, heres good reads: http://rustpuppy.org/chp/Welcome.html

Not a problem... I have the same motor, and its better than the 305 stock, just not the same as some of these others like the ZZs

To each their own, good luck on the build

Don't hesitate to ask whatever questions you might have. There are some people on here who really know their stuff. This aftermarket forum is maybe not the best place for tech questions though.

Vortec heads are cheap and flow as well as a lot of aftermarket small runner cylinder heads. The modifications needed to run a decent amount of lift on them are not as extensive as a lot of people would lead you to believe too.

They require a different intake manifold and a different style valve cover. Valve covers are cheap, you could always run stock center bolt valve covers if you wanted. You should be buying a new intake manifold anyway, so it shouldnt really matter.

The thing is that the 87-up intake manifold are more money which i dont have, but i had read a tech article on this website that sayes that you can grind the holes w/ a die grinder but i am not trying to do all that.. do you know the hp gain between the edlbrock and the vortex. i know the vortex is 20-40 hp states in the jegs catalog but nothing about the edlbrock. I rather just buy the edlbrock than the cast- iron anywats know what i mean?

Thanks agian.

Vortec, not vortex.

The Edelbrock Performer RPM heads flow very similarly to a Vortec cylinder head- for less than half the price. If money is such a big concern for you, I wouldn't even think of looking at aftermarket aluminum heads for your buildup. You can buy an aftermarket intake with the money you save and still be in the black.

Yes, but again trade offs. Read those articles i posted, it outlines those wery well. The alum. vette heads can be found on ebay for between 300-800 dollars.

They don't flow well and take some porting to get decent numbers out of them.

You are stuck on aluminum heads- don't be. Run vortec heads, after you blow someone's doors off its fun to tell them you are running a factory cast iron truck head .
