Roll Bars?
I'm looking for a 4,5, or 6 point roll bar for my 87 TA. wolfe has got a great set but its for 4th gen. I've got APC seats & want to add a 4 point harness. Another problem is a fix to be able to get into the rear seat "but the cross bar is there". Any and all idea's are welcome.
Thanks

I bought a 8 point from Jegs. I ended up only putting in a 6. I did not add the cross bar, and I mounted my door bars way lower, so you can still get into the back seats, this also makes it not even noticable when getting in the front seats. There are plenty of pics of it going in on my site. Check it out.

Thanks for your help, I'm sold
That's the nicest setup I've seen so far! Where did you attach the shoulder harness without the cross bar? I think I may place a swing open cross bar & pin to hold it. I noticed you still had your old belts in the car, are you going to leave them in? where do they sell remote (electric) cut outs? I will be doing the same with the side exits before the rear wheel. You've done a great job & I can't wait to see more.

Hey thanks.
I attached the shoulder bars to the floor. Right behind the front seats.
The cut out I got off ebay for about 100 bucks, it is a 3.5" one. I had to dent the floor pan to get it to fit without compramising ground clearance.
I plan to leave the normal belts in, cuz it is gonna be a daily driver!! crazy i know....

Hmmmm... Well then I guess I will keep them for the street and the athetic appeal for now. The car is not planned for the track untill it is totally tuned and ready to go. By then, I guess I will install a removable cross bar and wrap them around that.

Would they allow the cross bar to be romovable and have the belts bolt to it??
Just a thought I would ask, if anyone has any other ideas as to where to mount those shoulder straps, even if it is temporary, while at the track, I can't think of anything that would even be remotly nice/convenient.

Are you planning on going fast enough that you're even going to need a harness?

Not too sure. I have no idea how fast the car will be, but in the end,it will be a street car at heart. I bought those harnesses a year ago when I had no idea what I was doing. So I tossed them in and I love the way they look.
The car is a 91 Z28, It will have a 510 HP (flywheel) 383 stroker. With a Tremeck 6 speed and a moser 12 bolt (4.11s).
No idea what that set up can pull, but I guess i will find out soon enough

If you're stuck on not running a cross bar, what about trying to fab an anchor point where the rear seat back and rear seat come together and bolt in the harness there. If memory serves me correctly, you can mount them up from +10* to a -45* angle (0* being straight back). I saw you did have a cross bar connecting the two rear down supports, if the belts are long enough, could you tie them into there?
BTW, I've got the same wheel set up as you've got going wik, 275's up front, 315s rear. What did you do wik the old 305 TPI?

the old 305 has been parted out. All I have left is the plenum, runners, empty block (305) and the T-5 tranny. If anybody is interested in any of that stuff, I am planning on throwing it all away or ebaying it, let me know.
As for the belt mounting that was mentioned above, I like the idea about the rear seat mounting, seems like a good idea, and I bet the straps would make it too. I will post pics, if I try that.
What do you guys think about mounting the belts to the rear belt holes???? or even where the bottom back seat cution bolts down???

You can also install anchors into the rear deck:
Essentially, you place a 1/8 inch steel plate behind the deck sheet metal that is attached to the subframe and the fuel tank anchor. This will be enough of a gusset to keep you in the seat in the event of a frontal crash. Unfortunately, if you pot it into a wall backwards, your seat will break off and you'll kiss your rear hatch with the back of your head. However, without a cross bar that'll happen anyway.
Once installed, you will have to add two slots to the seat back in order to hide the mounting rings when not in use. My seat back folds up and over the rings so that they are invisible when on the street.

I've since moved my harness to a chromoly crossbar. My kids can still use the rear seat, even with the well padded cross bar. I bought the kit with rear seat option from S&W race cars.

ws6transam, nice setup. What type of harness do you have? I ask because I plan on adding a harness to my car and I will be mounting the shoulder straps to the crossbar but I dont know how it mounts and if I need to wled any brackets to the crossbar then I need to know now while the interior is out.

The harness is made by Teamtech. http://www.teamtechmotorsports.com
They are very, very popular in the off-road and powerboat racing circles, as well as ASA racing. Excellent quality and made to order.
I'll be ordering two new sets for next year's racing at the National F-body Motorsports Event in Indy.
WHen it comes to harness mounting points, you can either wrap them around the crossbar like I did, or else weld in eyebolts and attach steel belt turnbuckles to them. The eyebolts need to be welded on both sides of the bolt. They are welded in so that the hole you drill doesnt weaken the tube structure.
