I must admit, I was very hesitant to use this stuff at first, but I was getting a little tired of that embarrassing white smoke from valve seal leak!

I waited for my engine to eat a quart of oil(took about a month) and poured in a quart of this mystery oil. I drove to a friends house about 35 miles away and back. My car sat for a day and a half since I havent went anywhere either, and i went out this morning and started it up, usually it would let out a really good amount of smoke for a few minutes, but to my suprise there was nothing!!!!!

It did the same thing for my friend Chevelle and there is still no valve seal leak on his car after 2 years!!

I would definitely recommend this to anyone to try before changing the seals out.

I've been using it for years, too bad they don't make deodorant with it in it LOL. I use it during assembly for lubing bores and piston rings, it burns off clean. Use it in the oil and it's also great down a carb or TB to clean off the carbon buildup. I love this stuff. Too bad they don't sell it here. I buy crates of it every now & then and have it container freighted.

I had a 1974 Corvette, 350 engine. That was right before they went to the catalytic converters, and had true, dual exhausts. They stopped putting lead in the gas and I was concerned about the engine. My mechanic, who used to race Corvettes in the 60s, said to use Marvel Mystery Oil whenever I got gas in the car, the amount I believe is on the can. I never had a problem with the engine...

i'm not sure what is in it . it seem's to work , it has been around as long as i can remember . i am much older than most on this forum , i have seen dozens of "snake oil" treatments over the years . Marvel Mystery Oil is still out there . the others are long gone , marvel is still there . B.T.W. i have been a gearhead for well over 50 years . good luck .

Just for the sake of argument, i'm going to play devil's advocate.
According to the Material Safety Data Sheet, MMO is comprised of:
Naphthenic Hydrocarbons(cutting oil)
and
Mineral Spirits(paint thinner)

It should be obvious that adding cutting oil and paint thinner to your oil will reduce its ability to lubricate.

MMO was invented in 1923 by simply mixing some light oil and solvent. Any modern motor oil is formulated by teams of chemists and tested by teams of engineers. Why would anyone think that adding solvent to your motor oil would be a good idea?
And what about adding it to your fuel? Both cutting oil and paint thinner are less volatile than gasoline, meaning it doesn't burn as easily. Adding it to your fuel can only increase the amount of unburnt hydrocarbons flowing past your oxygen sensor and catalytic converter.

OK. That's my opinion, based on my reasoning only. I don't expect anyone who has had good experience with MMO to agree with me. But I present my opinion solely to add another point of view to this thread for those who might be looking for an alternative opinion.

all the white smoke is suppose to be build up and carbon being cleaned out of your engine. your suppose to put 1/3 can in your gas tank 1/3 can in you engine and 1/3 can in your brake boost while the car is running i believe and then let it sit for some amount of time. then start it up and watch all the nasty come out.

local autozone carries it here. it is in the fuel additive/engine treatment section. comes in a red quart bottle like a quart of oil or a tin can like a can of laquer thinner.

not neccesarily, the white smoke is the seafoam burning off, while it does clean carbon out the white smoke isnt all carbon, if it was your motor would be locked in place with carbon. Seafoam is a personal favoritve of mine and i cant deny that it blows out carbon, i had to prove it to my dad so i cleaned my tail pipes and shined them, took the car for a spin and they were still shining inside, then ran seafoam and they went straight black by the time it quit smoking.

Depending on what kind of fuel system you have determies how you use it, TPI would need to be sucked in like you said, TBI can be poured into the throat of the throttle body, same as a carb and i generally like to pour it in slowly then just choke it out with the seafoam when its almost all in (just dump it in) and then sit for 15 mins theeeennn the fun starts

As for MMO i wont use it. The post above pointed out the thinner and solvents, my dad used to use it on his GTO and he decided to use it on his new project "what can it hurt" was what he said, and then low and behold he put it in and ran it, then magicly the motor siezed, wonder what caused it lol granted every believer in this product will fight me on this, might have been user error or whatever but i wont ever put this in my car after seeing that

Using Seafom should be taught right alongside changing the tire and oil. Its basic and necessary maintenance for all older cars. My cars get a dose every year. One in the tank, and one sprayed into a vacuum line (they make an aresol version called Deep Creep).

I think the MMO is designed to cut the sludge and deposits from the engine. I had a 1972 Nova in HS and drove it to school one morning and poured the MMO in the motor in while it was hot and I could hear the lifters quietening as I poured it. That was enough to make a lifetime believer out of me!

theres another solution to that. its called synthetic oils. If you feel the absolute neeeeed to use conventional oils then youre gonna get sludge build up, also the quality of the oil is another issue, penzoil, is my #1 pet peeve, my dad used to swear by it and i pulled his motor apart for him the other day and i wiped the pan with a glove and it was like playing with a big ball of black....fat lol If you go cheap youll get crap results, you get what you pay for. I run synthetic because it actually cleans up the motor hence the " random leaks" if you switch from conventional because the synthetic oil cleans out the sludge that is keeping your motor from leaking

But thats just my opinion MMO has been around so long its fairly obsolete with all the engineering in both synthetic and conventional oils

I still have an old metal can of it that I bought at Western Auto about 16 years ago sitting as a 'decoration' in the garage. I don't recall what I used it in, or if it made a difference.

I'm not a big fan of conventional oil or adding anything to any oil unless it's a ZDDP additive for a flat tappet cam, though.
