Not the best pictures but you get the idea, these are the American Racing Torq Thrust II's. At first I thought the back tires stuck out too far but now I think I like it. Before anyone says anything I know my car is filthy, its been washed since these were taken.

Thanks! They're 275/40 in the back and 245/45 in the front, I went with 17's because you couldn't get 275's for 16's

I got them through Belle Tire because they carry American Racing products I had them special ordered. They are 17's though.

Thank you! Those rims look chrome and mine are actually polished aluminum but they're two very similar finishes, also different brand of tires but this would give you the same look. I believe mine are offset -10 so check that before you buy because they come in a few different offsets.

Very nice indeed . I Like the slight rake with those wheels.IMO a car set up in this manner should not be lowered.If there was any more space between the tires and well than I would say yes to a little drop to get them just where they are now.Would you tell us how wide the wheels are.(7",8",10" ??)

Nice looking camaro.

Drop it......I had the same Torque Thrust IIs (now for sale) 17x8 as im betting yours are with both Eagle F1s and Nitto NT555s at 275-40-17 in the rear, dropped mine an inch all around with vogtland springs and never had any problems with rocks chipping the paint outside of the fender wells. It also kept the slightly raked look that I liked.

Man, the stance, and look of the wheels are nice but the rears stick out way too far. I would definitely return them and get the correct backspacing. Your first reaction is the give away. You don't want to get used to the look, you want to see your car and automatically say "SWEET". Don't let the dudes with bad taste sway you.

P.S. when someday if you want to lower your car, they'll look even worse, not to mention there is no possible way to achieve decent suspension travel when your quarter panels are hitting/rubbing on the top of your tire.

i love the wheels. in fact got them on my formula with a 373 rear. it sticks out alittle but looks good. Mine are from american racing first gen ones. the look diffrent then yours.

I suggest doing a search on suspensions before posting erroneous information that is merely your opinion.

With the tires and rims he is running which look F'N SWEET lowering would not be a problem, nor would suspension travel........ Out of the 13 3rd gens i've owned 11 have been lowered between 1"-2.5" with the widest tires in the rear I could fit.

White1991rs......think it looks great. Are your tires sitting outside the wheel well by about an inch in the rear? I have the American Racing Daytona 18's with 255/40 Z18 Bridgestones. I am just at the lip with a "0" offset. I am thinking of dropping it for sure. I would double check with clearance with a +10 offset and a 275/40-18 tire. Good Luck. We have the same car, however mine is soon to be a long way from white.

The backspacing is a non issue considering we are sporting a 4th gen 10bolt. It has a drag stance that 90% of people like.

Lol i just reread and you still have the stock 3rd gen rearend? That's to much man. Never think about going 4th gen rear with those wheels. Granted it looks good but my wheels tucked with my 3rdgen rear stock.

Car looks good. Wheels look good. Id rather see the rears tucked in more. Im not a fan of how far they set out either.

Tires do look a little backwards at first glance, but IDK.

Yes your tires are directional. They look like BF Goodrich Gsport tires.
If you look on the sidewall they should have an arrow showing the
rotation of the tire. The treads should be pointing forward, hope this makes sense.

You need to read my post again. First, he is specifically asking for our opinion's in the title he created for this thread. Second, "Don't let the dudes with bad taste influence you" is a statement I made regarding his choice in rims, and speaks to the question of backspacing, which he infers (according to his taste) is the questionable aspect of the wheels.


How could what I wrote be erroneous if its "merely my opinion"? That doesn't even make sense.


Disregarding the above, after looking at it again, is it possible your rims are mounted incorrectly? It looks like they may be switched front to back and side to side, with the front tires mounted on the rear wheels and the rear tires mounted on the front wheels. That is if you have a different offset on two of the rims (which it looks like you do in your pics). If your rims are all the same size you could swap them around and see if it looks right. You would have to turn the tires around on the rims though to have the tread pattern going in the right direction.

I dont lke it. Looks like someone put 3rd gen wheels on a 4th gen rear. Not really a good look. The fact that it's 275 width tires helps it a little, but still its a little too much. Drag stance... most drag racers are trying to tuck huge meats as far as possible, so they may stick out a bit, but they're very wide. They also generally use 15 inch wheels. Youre mixing a modern pro-tour look and a cheesy rendition of the 70's-80's pro stock look into the same car. If you like it thats all that matters, but I agree with the other guy, if your first impression is that it doesnt look right, then it doesnt look right. None of us here are seeing the car in person - you are. There's a chance the look might fix itself if you lowered the car... but Im not sure. If you want a rake and rear tires that stick out, then run 15 inch wheels.

Also, your tires are on backwards in the first picture. Im guessing you noticed since its fixed in the rest of them?

BTW, you have a gorgeous car.

Im not a big fan of the 15's I think I might drop it an inch and see how it looks then. About the tires I don't believe they were on backwards but it is possible that I switched them when I took them off to paint the brake drums. And thank you for the compliment

Thanks dude I'm glad you like it. Just wondering what spring would you recommend to drop it just an inch? and in the past have you had many ground clearance problem with all those lowered cars? I love the look but Im scared to lower mine because I ripped the muffler off mine the first week I owned it riding at stock height.

Try 2 inches per side. A half inch per side is about the difference in offsets from front to rear with the stock axle. A fourth gen axle is about 2 inches wider per side, but the 93-97 ones are slightly different than the 98-02 ones.

I am not a big fan of the offset on the rears but I always say if you like it then that's ultimately what matters. Enjoy the new rims and stance.

4th gen rears are no stronger. You know that, right? Most of the parts interchange, even. You have a 91 RS, so you already have the 28 spline axles that the 4th gens have. The only difference is the width.

Anyway, you can always have a narrower rear end made by Moser etc.

I didnt know that. I dont need anymore width but I'd like a little more strength because Im not going to be running the 305 forever.
