Insurance for less then 1k?

My insurance is killing me, i have to sell my car or change plans bad. The worst part is I never drive my car, i put maybe one thousand miles a year on my car. My current insurance company nationwide does not care how often you drive the car. Is their any company out their that will insure a 92 camaro as a collector if i drive it less 1.5k miles a year and rarely if ever to work and back? For how little the car is driven, and with an alarm i can not imagine paying more then $500 a year. Also i have a perfect driving record and am 21 years old. I am going to go search around the internet, but if anyone could tell me any advice from experiance that would be great.

Moderator, sorry for the post if it does not belong here, this seemed like the best place to post a question

man I think that sounds like a good rate. I'm just 16 and my insurance is about $100 plus every month. :-) and I have absolutely no tickets.

My parents are paying for my insurance on their cars, which itself accounts for like 6g's, the best insurance rate i've seen for my camaro's (not licensed or insured yet) was 3400/year, (clean record btw) i found that through www.kinetix.com

i think insurance may go up when you can legally drink, and i am told it doesn't start to fall till around 25, even with a clean record

I think a lot depends on where you live. I am in Ohio and my rates are cheaper than most. One thing that will help is dropping your car to comprehensive only when you are not driving it. However, some states do not allow this.

I have Erie Insurance and it cost me $40 per year when the cars are stored. When I carry full coverage it is $400 for the IROC and $500 for the Formula both are per year. I am older than you so my rates are better but Erie offers great rates if you have a clean record.

You can try www.aigdirect.com and get an online quote.

They're the cheapest (with the coverage I want) that I could find. I am 30yrs old, married, homeowner, and 3yrs since last ticket, and I pay ~$1300 yr. for my car (92 RS) and my wife's 96 Lumina Minivan.

But I also carry a plan that's 50/100 w/$100 deductable. It would drop a lot if I dropped coverage limits, and raised my deductable.

See what the lowest coverage you can get is and the computer will quote you.

$665/year in my early 30s, married, multiple car discount, moderate deductible, NOT my primary car (rated for pleasure), good zip code and a clean driving record, with State Farm.

Shop around; however, in your early 20s with a V8 performance automobile and you're not going to find great rates.

If you have to have a V8 camaro and can't hack the insurance, then you'll either have to carry very limited coverage / high deductibles, or get a lo-po car and swap your V8 parts into it.

Insurance is based on risks of averages... young men with high performance vehicles tend to cause a lot of claims, so they get charged higher rates. Legalized age discrimination.

Your age and the age of the car has a lot to do with it. Last year I started carrying collector car insurance on my 85 Transam. I have $1,000,000 liability coverage (need the gap to my homeowner's blanket coverage), have full comprehensive and collision with no deductible (as in $0) and it costs me $187 per year. Why so cheap: stored in a locked garage, driven less than 3000 miles per year, not used for competition, 35 year old driver, and not primary vehicle. I had to wait for the car to be 15 years old before I could switch from my primary insurance. I was paying about $400 per year then. Once you hit 25, you start saving a lot of money.

Come on 25!!!!! I am 23 now, full coverage on a 97 Grand Prix, and full on 91 Z-28. I have 50/100 coverage, and 250 deductible on the GP, and 500 on the Z. I pay $1344 a year. I thought this was pretty good. I can't wait to see what happens in a couple years.

I love how people are compareing cost from state to state, and telling people they are getting ripped off. This seems to be the trend when ever someone asks how much should this cost. Eveyone in New Jersey and New York City area knows how expensive car insurance is, not to mention if you can find a company that will give you just a liabilty policy, alot of companys I called have only full coverage available. Do your self a favor, and dont **** your self off my looking at how much less other people are paying that live in a different state,(unless you know someone there that will let you register and insure it at there address.)

doh

Well no luck with the collectors, i am screwed. I live in NOVA which is hell for insurance, rated second worst driving in the country. My insurance is actually 2,100 a year, and between that and the cost of college one has got to go. Time to post another post of how much I could get for my car.

WOW!!!!!! .....I had no idea that insurance rates varied so much from state to state and I thought mine was high. I am 26,married,multiple car discount, full coverage on 2 cars(Drivable 91 Firebird,97 Grand Am GT)average deductible, fair driving record,State Farm insured.....$940 yearly...My advice to all people with high insurance rates. Get married, buy another car and move to Georgia J/K Then we can all hang out,it sucks like a hoover having the only "nice" Firebird here in my town. Seems like everyone around here that also has Firebirds/Camaros just thinks of them as a way to get from point A to point B and not caring for them nor treasuring them and considering them "TRUE MACHINES"..Sorry,got a little off track there Interesting finding out how the rates differ.....keepem comin!

Heh, getting married will cost you a LOT more then what you'll save in insurance. Stay single, life is so much simpler.

And it's not just the state you live in, it's the area. I live right in the Middle of Manchester, NH. Not the biggest city in the country by any means, but a city nonetheless. Insurance is significantly higher living in the city then living in rural areas. It's all about statistics. In a city you're more likely to get in an accident, you're more likely to have your vehicle vandalized, broken into, or stolen.

And 25 did not bring a significant drop in my insurance rates. At 27 I'm paying 900 a year for liability alone. Full coverage would cost me 3 grand. When I was 24, I was paying just over a grand for liability and full coverage would have cost me somewhere around 3300. Trivial drop as far as I'm concerned. Insurance companies just love to financially rape single young male drivers. They use driving statistics to justify their rates, but they use financial statistics as well when determining what those rates are.

Actually getting married does not save that much on insurance. I think I saved $25 the first year. That did'nt even cover what my father-in-law drank at the reception!!!

Okay, I have to ask. What are these "points" everyone speaks of? Is that like a ticket or what?

I don't know about all states, but many work on a points system as far as traffic violations go. Here in New Hampshire we have 12 points. Our speeding tickets are broken up into categories as far as mph over posted speed limit. There are different rates for 55mph and under speed zones and 65mph speed zones. Basically speeding in a 65mph zone costs more. All speeding tickets except the top two categories give you three points on your record. The top two give you 4. Driving without Inspection I think is 2 points. The more severe infractions like wreckless driving, street racing, etc don't have points because those are automatic loss of license. Basically, if you accumulate 12 points on your license, you lose it for 30 days. You lose points every year (I think it's 3 a year, but it may be 4) and you can take a driver safety course once a year to drop 3 points off. That's what I can recall from the way it works here in New Hampshire. Probably it's slightly different in other States.

Well in my case,I was married a year before I got around to telling my insurance company that I was married. If I had told them early I could have saved 96 bucks that year. I know that is not much, but every little bit helps
