not sure if it would go in this forum. but ill never order from gmpartsdirect.com again. i ordered a delete pulley for a lt1 because it was about 10 dollars cheaper then aftermarket and it was origional gm equiptment. well i placed the order on feb 8th and it was <in stock> here it is feb the 20th and not shipped yet. ive emailed them 2 times and they tell me. its in stock. well ship it asap. on both replies. but its still showing special order under status...
this is not how you do business. now if i had a 4th gen and i ordered this pulley because mine was broke. id be without a car for 2 weeks now...

You need to understand that when you place an order with them, you cannot be on a time crunch. On their FAQ, it very clearly states that shipping takes quite a while, and that once you place an order, you can't modify it or cancel it. The explicitly point out that if you need a part ASAP, to order from your local GM dealer instead.

You get a very good price with them (dealer cost + 20% on most items, with shipping already included), but the tradeoff is the waiting time. To top things off, business starts growing very rapidly during this time of year. They don't exactly have 5,000 employees working on orders like Summit or Jegs does. The reason you get such low pricing is because of the way their business is structured, and that includes the wait time.

Did you read their FAQ before you ordered?

Need a part the same day, go to the Dealer and pay their price.
You want the same part cheaper and can wait, deal with gmpartsdirect.
For a special order part, what did you expect overnight air.

I go through Jason Cromer or Dal Slabaugh...real dealers that also discount at the same rate as gmpartsdirect.com, and better shipping prices.

I can identify with the original poster's frustration and agree with the other comments as well. Many parts are "special ordered", and those have taken up to six weeks to get to me. I have so little patience that the lack of customer service really gets to me. I have used Jason Cromer before, and he was very helpful and fast.

I ordered a set of N96 rims from these guys a few weeks ago and it took about two weeks to get them, which wasn't a problem because I couldn't find the rims anywhere else. I have been pretty happy with them. Sorry to hear you've had so much trouble.

I honestly can't say on these guys one way or the other having yet to do business with them.

BUT...

It does say pretty clearly that you're going to have to wait for a part. I guess the bottom line is, pay more for your part now, or pay less and wait a little bit. Especially if it's a hard to find part.

So bite the bullet and wait guys. Stuff takes time. Whether from a private party or business things need to get processed.

How do you find these two guys? What is the web address? I deal with gmpartsdirect all the time and have never been disappointed but having some backup is a good thing.

Last I checked GM partsdirect is actually run by a dealership. Its not really anything that GM setup. From what I understand it was a small dealership who took advantage of a way to sell their products. You really cant complain since most dealerships will charge far more than what parts direct charges.

I have boughts parts from them from time to time. It usually takes a couple of weeks. No problem if you know that ahead of time. Special order items will take longer. I have had no problems with their service.

I thought their pricing is dirt cheap, but shipping is rediculously high, and THAT'S how they get you.... hmm....
but yea, give more info about those others guys eh? My local stealerships suck as far as pricing goes.

I just ordered a A/C Delete pulley last week and received it on Friday. Pulley shipped from Flow Chevrolet in Winston Salem, NC. No complaints here! I would imagine the problems lie with items they have to special order from GM.

Great prices but shipping is rediculous. I spent 500 on misc. parts and shipping was 123 bucks! They charge a flat shipping rate on each ind. item. You buy 2 of the same item you pay shipping 2 times. That honestly blows but thats the price you pay for quality gm parts I guess.

I've ordered a few times from them, and you're right they are SLOW. But it does say that in their FAQ, so like everyone else says, if you got some time then go for it, but if you're on a tight time schedual then go to the dealer.

GM parts direct is slow as crap. Go to the flea market and get a $2 work shirt, try to pass as an employee of a company that buys a lot of parts from your local GM dealer, and try getting a discount. That's what I do, not as cheap as parts direct but infinitely faster.

I wish I saw this post before I ordered from GMPartsDirect. I did read their FAQ's, but didn't think it would take this long. I placed my order on 4/28 (Fri) and it was delivered 5/21 (Sat). My order status was "special order" for the longest time, so that added the extra time. Only after I received the shipping email, did I get a reply to my email to their customer service, which I had sent well over a week prior. Overall I saved money on the order, but they are not very quick/responsive. Here is the return address & phone # that was on my package from them:

Yeah, they are owned and operated by Flow Chevrolet in Winston Salem. So not only are they ordering and running parts for the dealer but also internet. All of my brake parts came from Australia. It took me 3 weeks to receive my order.

Info:
Don't expect to call Flow Chevolet and get answers to you internet part orders. Because it just won't happen. It seems like they are a very separate operation and no phone requests are forwarded to them.

GMpartsDirect was great!

I never had a problem with them at all. I ordered a smog-pump delete pulley, and it said it was a "special order" but i ordered it anyways. Got it on my front porch 2 days later. Ordered it Monday, got it on Wednesday. No problem at all.....but then again, I do live in North Carolina

Try another site...

Hey guys. I ran into problems with gmpartsdirect awhile back. The site wouldnt accept any of my credit cards...said something about the address not matching the card. I checked the info three times and it was correct. Ive ordered from them many times before...a couple years ago...and all was fine. Now they are weird about their shipping and returns...forget about returns. I use this site now:

NEW GM PARTS - Find a Part

Fairly quick to respond to your questions. It only took 5 days (including a sat & sun) to get my cables for my LS1 swap. Their prices are alittle bit higher...but not enough to scare me away. I think it was $53 total at gmpartsdirect and $58 from this site. I think the dealer is Purian Pontiac or something... Anyway...they offer upgraded shipping as well. I remember seeing a 2-3 day service, and a next day. Price jumps of course...but still cheaper than the dealer. Way cheaper on the cables anyway.

I'm also trying to get the smog/air delete pulleys, but want to make absolute sure that i need part #10186167 before i buy it, because not being able to return a $65 pulley would suck. I have a '90 firebird, but it's got the pre 86 block in it. Any input based on what you received would be appreciated.

OK guys, have a ? for you. I know, wrong area. I have an 87. Each belt is individual. (seperate a/c, smog, pump, power steering) Was this common or were modifications made?

I've never actually ordered from either site, but you have to be careful...on more than one occasion I looked up a part number on both sites and was excited they actually had what I wanted, until I put the order in and received an email saying that the order was canceled because the part was obsolete. Since then I haven't even tried using them, since they cannot get their catalog updated. Even though it says they cannot guarantee the accuracy of the catalog what's the point?? I can shop all day and not get one part because their catalog isn't updated so it's a waste of time for me.

Seems like I have the same problem that Ghettocruiser had about the address not matching.. they have cancelled my order but still not released the hold that they put on my Paypal account for the money.. so it looks like I will be going elsewhere to get the parts that I am looking for... I've never had any troubles whatsoever with any other transaction I have done thru Paypal until now with GMPartsDirect.. seems odd to me... but oh well...

Ive been ordering from Fred Beans. They have great prices, they ship fast, and seem to be really easy to deal with. I had major issues with that "New GM Parts" website. Several orders went bad while I was building my car. Fred Beans has been perfect so far.

Justin

fredbeansparts.com

which I just looked at and it comes up as trademotion.com... I hope that doesnt screw up any of the ordering...
