Hawks: a tall order

Hey guys,

I know there is a topic existing on Hawks, but
It didnt fully inform or give me confidence..

I plan to order a mass sum of exterior parts before
the car is painted, and I would like to know what
the service was like for someone with a order of
$600.00 dollars and up?

I would also like to know the quality of the
composite Rear spoiler they retail out. Is it
direct bolt on OEM? superb quality? Ground
effects peices as well, Ill need a whole 360
degrees of it.. Good quality?

Obviously Ill need all emblems/badging/stickers.
But, I assume those are of superb quality.

And last but not least, when shipping out
multiple items, were they recieved? and how
long did it take them?

Itll be hard to find the stuff locally, so
I want go get everything in one stop.

Thanks in advance for any input

Re: Hawks: a tall order

I hear lots of good things about Hawks. While my last purchase from them wasn't as big as yours, I did spend about $360 there a while back for a set of 91-92 style rims. They arrived VERY quickly; within a few days, and were in better condition than they described them. That was about 3 years ago, but to this day, I still have them and haven't done any refinishing and whatnot; they still look good. I would say you don't have anything to worry about.

Re: Hawks: a tall order

Hawk's may be an alright place to get new parts from but for used stuff, they have problems. It seems like the right hand doesn't know what the left hand is doing there. I had a small order with them back in February and I never did get what I paid for. I sent pictures of exactly what I was looking for, I specified the years and which Fbody's the parts could come from and I described what I was looking for too. They sent me the wrong tire inflator bolt in the first package but I got the correct one in the second package.

Bruce Hawkins requested that I send an email to him so that he could fix the problem. I never did hear back from him and the screws never showed up in the mail. I am dissappointed in my dealings with them especially when Bruce established the company to cater to people who were having trouble locating thirdgen parts.

I have bought a fair bit from Modern Day Muscle without any problems and I plan on spending $2,000 to $3,000 in restoration parts in the next while that I will have to looking to buy from a company other than Hawk's to purchase my stuff from.

ATTN: Bruce Hawkins

Hi Bruce. In February I ordered the following 3 items from your company for my 1992 Trans Am GTA:

1. 92 Trans Am CD Player
2. Tire Inflator Bolt
3. 2 METAL hatch screws (one on either side of the plastic panel where the hatch pulldown motor is)

I have received the CD player and tire inflator bolt but not the 2 screws. In the first parcel I received, I received 3 bolts that might be used to bolt the rear spoiler to the hatch but it wasn't what I ordered. See the below link for a picture:

http://i91.photobucket.com/albums/k3...A/DSCN2371.jpg

I received a second parcel last week that contained 7 plastic screws (3 black and 4 gray) for the rear cargo area which is not what I ordered. See the link for a pic:

http://i91.photobucket.com/albums/k3...A/DSCN2370.jpg

Today, I received an envelope with a note that said the folllowing: "Tim said that he does not have another tire inflator bolt. The one he sent you was off of a 92. Here are the hatch bolts for the plastic peices. Thanks." There was a plastic bag in the envelope but no screws.

I need 2 metal screws, one on either side of the plastic panel where the hatch pulldown motor is, they screw the plastic panel to the body. I have enclosed a link that shows where the missing screws are supposed to go and pictures of one the screws from my 91 Trans Am GTA. THESE SCREWS CAN ONLY BE FROM A 91 OR 92 FiIREBIRD. I have a friend with a 91 Z28 and I compared screws and they are not the same as my 91 GTA.

Here are what the screws look like:

http://i91.photobucket.com/albums/k3...A/DSCN2354.jpg

http://i91.photobucket.com/albums/k3...A/DSCN2353.jpg

Here is where they are supposed to go:

My home phone # is: (XXX) XXX-XXXX
My work # is: (XXX) XXX-XXXX (you have to ask to speak to me directly)
My time zone is 2 hours behind yours.

Thanks for your assistance. I look forward to hearing from you.

Andy XXXXXX

(end of email)

I realize that these screws are trivial for most people but its the principal of paying for something and not receiving what you ordered. I want to accumlate as many of the missing/damaged factory parts as possible for my 92 GTA.

Re: Hawks: a tall order

Thanks for the replies.

I plan of getting the rear spoiler, badging, some
GFX and extensive weather stripping driver and
passenger sides. Depending what my body shop
says about the front end clip, Id order one too.

Im mostly concerned about the spoiler (shipping)
condition is also a concern, are they new?
I might look around locally for one, but doubt it

T-Top weather stripping kits are very pricy,
Im hesitant about doing my T-tops. Ill stick
with my windows/sills first. Ill possibly have
a question about that later on, but ill wait
to see if I can anwser it myself.

Thanks again

Re: Hawks: a tall order

I ordered a headliner and a set of SFC's. I'll probably order from them again, but the shipping was 80 bucks. Which I thought was kind of expensive from South Carolina to North Carolina.

This was for my 95 BTW. Speaking of T-Tops seals. They have a set for 229. I'm going to get those when I get going on my IROC.

Re: Hawks: a tall order

I purchased the rear oem replica from hawks back in December. I can't say much about the shipping. My dad is a truck driver and he was in the area so he picked it up and brought it to me. They were nice enough to bring the part over to the hotel where he was staying. The part was very good quality and my body shop didn't seem to have a problem getting it to bolt on. On a side not the weight reduction is so great with this spoiler that the trunk struts I thought need replaced work perfectly after replacing the wing. I knew there would be a difference in weight but I never realized how much till I open the hatch for the first time. Amazing was the first thing that came to mind. So all and all I would classify Hawks as a good place and I had a very good experience.

Call Summit Racing and ask them a few questions. Their policy is they will beat any price out there....and if they dont have the part they can get it. Give them a holla (lol, HOLLA is a funny word) and see what they can do for you.

Re: Hawks: a tall order

Great responses.

I dont want to go to a GM dealership and pay
110% of the retail cost on the weather stripping
and what not. So, If I can get what I need in
one nice order, that would please me.

I basically just want to replace the weather
stripping around the door area on both sides
of the car. I need to make sure I get the right
kit for them, not all my weather stripping is bad.

Obviously, I must get a spoiler from Hawks..
But Ive heard someone around here in AZ
actually fabricates them, Ill have to look
into that.

Thanks, I have confidence in
ordering from Hawks now.

Thank you!

I like to take the time to get my point across and
make it easier for the reader. I think its important
to do so, If I need/want advice or help.

And mostly, If you want people to take you seriously
proper punctuation is key. I see time and time again
people on the forums who need help.. but, dont take
the time to ask for it properly, and never get help
because of it.

I am calling Hawks early in the morning, for inquiring
on the shipping for the Rear spoiler. There shouldnt
be a problem shipping to Arizona, but I want a general
idea of the cost.

I might be forced to make two orders, for I am
clueless on what weatherstripping peices I need.
Hopefully I can get a Door/window kit, but not
spend extra for the T-top kit.

Ill have more information after I speak with Hawks.

Thanks a ton guys!

Re: Hawks: a tall order

I've been to Hawk's a couple of times, as they are about an hour away from where i live. the place is immaculate, the parts are great, and the prices, while not always the cheapest, are good quality. I would, do , and will continue to use and recommend them. I wouldnt have ANYONES business advertised on my cars unless i truely believed in the service and products they offer, and well, they're on my cars.

Re: Hawks: a tall order

I'm very dissatisfied, I paid for the shipping cost 215$ ( order more than 1200) $ but actually the shipping cost is 139.55$ and I must drive 350 miles (and paid 48$ for the motorway and others $ for the fuel) to recover my parcels because Hawks chose door to airport. He didn't say to me that it was door to airport. If I knew it I would never have paid for that !!!!
and no answer since 04/28/07!!!!!!

Hawks

I've ordered parts from them over the years for my 94 Trans Am & 89 Iroc, the parts from the cowl induction hood for my TA to the 92 spoiler wing for my Iroc have been good quality. The only negatives have been with shipping cost especially with smaller items.

Re: Hawks: a tall order

are you still looking to replace your front bumper cover?

my only advice is not to buy a repro piece. I had one and it never fit quite right. Definitly go towards a like new quality OEM piece, just becareful because they do tend to sag in the middle.
