Super ram and MAF ecm ?

will a MAF ecm from a 86 iroc be tweaked enough to support my build which consists of 383, 10.5-1 compression, comp 280hr cam(565 lift with 1.6rr's and 224 duration with 110lsa ), afr 195's, accel super ram with base, 36lb injectors, 52mm tb. Or will the ecm only being a 8 bit start being a issue. im hoping to go low 12's

slow,

According to some members on this site, the 110 lsa cam will be your test of the hour in terms of tuning. So anything is possible just depends how much time you want to spend attaining your goals. Time=money.

Re: Super ram and MAF ecm ?

I have your combo but with LPE heads and smaller cam in my '86. It went 12.48@114 with a weak tune. I got it re-tuned and its got more now to say the least. My car runs great. Your 86 ecm should be fine.

The maf is not your problem. I ran a bigger cam that yours and it ran fine. Just tune it.

Re: Super ram and MAF ecm ?

arent the later ecms like the 89 better to work with since it has more memory or something like that?

Re: Super ram and MAF ecm ?

If you max out the maf, then you add fuel through the pe vs rpm + pe vs coolant tables if you need it.

a friend of mine used a LS1 maf on his turbo Buick and if IIRC those mafs max out about 750. By the way slow-roc, I think your injectors are a little too big.

Re: Super ram and MAF ecm ?

You WILL need to tune the eprom but the 165 MAF can easily support your mods (and possibly modifying the P/E Fuel Tables if you max out the MAF). The 165 ECM is the same, it's the programming (calibration) that changes over the years and most prefer the 1989 ($6E) as it is the best defined of all the 165's calibrations.

FYI, I tuned a buddy's 383 a number of years ago with a Miniram that had AFR 195s with the Competitions porting, 2.05 Intakes and a solid roller of 248/256 duration at .050 with a 110 LSA. He's running 36# injectors. The trick to tuning was re-scaling the MAF Scalar Tables and using the P/E Fueling with a WideBand O2 sensor. The car makes max power at 7,000 rpm.

Re: Super ram and MAF ecm ?

I have gone 12.19 with a screenless stock MAF and 12.12 with my experimental 3" MAF..... In fact 1MeanZ and I met at Milan one nite.
