9-bolt parts

Is there any chance of you carrying 9-bolt parts? Ring/pinion, bearing sets, etc. You'd get a LOT of business from this board.

I have been seriously thinking about swapping in a 10 bolt to replace my 9 bolt just for the fact that there is more part availability. That is on the back burner right now...so hopefully somone can start putting more support into the 9 bolt because I would like to keep it.

Check with this guy
http://www.difftechnics.com.au
I just got a new posi, gears, install kit etc about a month ago. The 9 bolts are still in use in AU so I think all parts and ratios are still available. Only took a couple weeks to get them too. Shipping was steep about $150 but all in all a complete rebuild including bearings is running me about $900 plus install.

Isn't a 12 bolt around $1500?

When I checked with Hawks and our local shop the 12 bolt came from Strange Engineering and cost about $2200 once I got all the brackets etc that fit my stock sway bar. I also wanted a girdle that's another $160. In addition according to the vendor the J65 discs on my 89 won't fit the 12 bolt so rear brakes are another additional. I've been told since then that the issue is the backing plate. Anyway at this time 3 grand is too steep to handle. Eventually I may do a 12 bolt but for now just decent gearing is going to be good. I'm spending all of my extra cash on a paint job. I should post on the body forum the costs of paint material. You all will not believe what it costs to paint a car now with quality material.

Yea, however, it would be nice to have a reliable vendor (in the US) that stocks nine bolt parts. The vendors that do carry some nine bolt parts are hit and miss, often times one recieves the wrong parts.

I bought a complete install kit for my nine bolt from them, and was very pleased with the quality and quick shipping, but ended up getting rid of my 9 bolt before I could use it and sold the kit to a member on here.

Re: 9-bolt parts

Is that $325 each or a set of axles? Also, since I'll be doing a T56 swap and upgrading the gears to 3.70s do I have to change axles? Are the Moser axles stronger than stock axles? Will it matter between stock and Moser axles? My biggest concern is that I'd like to be able to put a set of drag radials on and not have to worry that I'm going to snap my axle when/if I make some runs down the track. Thanks.

315 for a set.

"Yes, we sell them for $315 per pair. We don’t have a part number. They are a custom order axle, but we do know all of the dimensions. We make them out of our Custom Alloy material. They would be about 30% stronger than stock axles."

i honestly don't know if they'd be worth getting. i would imagine so if you plan on going t56 and launching from 4k or something, espically on DR's. i run the 3.70's in my car and love them, but that's behind an auto. with the t56, you might want to consider 4.11 gears.

Re: 9-bolt parts

I thought about the 4.11s but everyone I've talked to has reccommended the 3.70s since it's still a TPI motor. You're the first one to say 4.11s Munson. Speaking of which...are you the same Munson from GTA Source? Since my GTA is the first car I've owned that I'm doing modifications too, this is still a learning curve for me trying to figure out what would work best and give me the best bang.

either one would work, the 4.11's would just run through the gears a little faster. and yeah i'm the one and only munson. how do you think i knew your name was patrick?

i would personally run the 4.11's if it was me, even with the LTR setup. either way you're going to rip through 1st gear so fast it won't be funny. you'll probably have to launch in 2nd gear, and with the 4.11's, it'll help you get out of the hole a little better. it's really up to you, i'd talk to some people that are running a t56 with the LTR setup and steeper gears.

I think reider racing still carries 9 bolt bearings/ring and pinion install kits. thats where i got mine from a few years back for like 120 bucks. had pinion bearings and carrier bearings, etc.

I still have a new pinion bearing i think it is, and some factory carrier shims as well as my 9 bolt axle housing and a 2.77 posi carrier/ring-pinion

It is in my signature...LOL!

I've talked to a couple of people that have a similar setup already and they're the ones that suggested the 3.70s. Again, just trying to see what'll work the best for what I've got. I appreciate the assistance Munson.

Re: 9-bolt parts

I've got a 95Z with a T56 and 4.11's. After a lot of reading I found that this was said to be the optimum gear for the 95 T56 tranny.

I also have 3.70 gears in my 84 Berlinetta. That car started out as an automatic and has been converted to a T56 (from 95 Trans AM.) Had I put the gears in AFTER the tranny,.................. I would have used the 4.11's. My Berlinetta never see's 6th gear until 75-80 highway while highway cruising. The 4.11's would be better IMO !
