When the public at large sees a 3rd gen Camaro their first impression is "*******". No offense to anybody here, but how often have you seen a guy in a Camaro used as a joke. Joe Dirt and "Super Troopers" are two movies that leap immediately to mind.

You guys love your Camaros, and I respect the hell out of that, but if the topic is whether or not to get an IROC to pick up women my answer would have to be not on your life.

Edit: I'm going to present the other side of my above argument with this very touching tribute to the Camaro, written by a non-Camaro driver.

around here and in school the ladys love the fast, good lookin cars. some pay attention to them some dont. ive only had one g/f who wasnt really interested in my car. the rest love it. most of the ladys i give i ride ot want me to spin the tires and crap like that. around here most of the maros and birds are not red neckish but some are. mine kinda is because i got air shocks in the back with the biggie, small tire combo. the ladys like that though. i believe both that the car makes the man and the man makes the car.

I haven't read all of the posts but I am sure they all say the same thing. If you are going to get a I-roc for the chicks you are crazy. Ladies come and go with the change of the season. Your car won't leave you for some other guy. I once cared if my car would get me the ladies. Then I got no looks so I gave up and drove my Z just because I am allowed to. If you want people to notice you go buy a reyecer and do all the stupid mods to it and people will look and laugh.

Just my .02.

i just sold my formula, and picked up a beater, a 1990 corsica. Some chicks like it better than my firebird, mainly because it's got some of the creature comforts, when you hit a bump your fillings stay in, and you can hear yourself think and actually carry a conversation inside and within 10 feet of the car lol. Some of them could give a **** about a muscle car or a r/i/c/e ride, they're lookin for the guy in the driver's seat. selling the bird made me figure that one out for myself.

Well after i dumped my ex-g/f she started telling everyone that she dated the car not me

I don't mind. I know shes just trying to win back her selfasteam..

All my ex's loved my bird. some for the looks and some for the rush. I'd let them drive if i wanted to take a beer or two while cruising in the city. I did borrow it a few times but i'm not taking that chance again. Last time i got it back half of the exhuast was draging on the ground. She said she hit a litle bump.

ok, i'm sorry - but i couldn't resist. i had to put in a few words here.

for one, i'm like everyone else. the first time i saw my car when i hopped out of the ol' family minivan i started smiling - and i couldn't stop smiling. when i test drove her and got her completely sideways in the middle of the highway (first time driving the car) doing a "traction test," i just started laughing out loud at the pure fun of it! i had fallen in love with the car. not b/c of what or who the car could get me, but b/c it was fun and i liked it! that's why i bought it with my hard earned money. for me!

and sure my g/friend likes it, and sure some ppl tell me they like/love my car... but they don't like me b/c of my car and i don't try to get them to like me b/c of my car. to me and them, its all about the man behind the wheel of the car.

but, if you still want something to drive the ladies mad over you, may i suggest these to help you on your way:

http://store.yahoo.com/luvessentials...nesformen.html

http://www.mioplex.com

they don't call me "doc" for nothin'! i'm the doctor of love!
(i'm gonna get kicked off the board for this one....)

I think that a radical cam and electric cutouts could give you the muscle car sound, and an ss hood couldn't hurt. Also i'd get rid of all the electronics in the car. Definitly get rid of everything in the engine bay, for example the AC, windshield wiper motor, heater blower, smog pump, everything. I think that should get you started on the muscle car image.

without reading the 2 pages of responses, ill respond. first thing first, buy the kind of car you want. youll never be truly happy if youre always trying to please someone else. 2nd, there will always be people who dont like your car, or maybe just dont like you. some people find it necessary to talk **** about my car, why, im not sure, but what are they proving, nothing. but it seems that the majority of people like my car. the only chic ive had tell me she liked my car was my psycho ex-g/f, but i was still happy to get a positive comment. definitely get lots of looks, probably because its bright red. every once in a while someone asks if its a vette, and ive even had people ask if i was a ferrari

well gents i didnt buy my car to get girls, but i sure did get enuff of them with it. i first bought it because it looked awesome, handled superbly, and had decent power. but no matter where i go with it, people just stare at it, literaly. for instance, i pulled in my girlfriends high school parking lot a week back, and as soon as i pull in, every fricken kid in the parking lot just stopped what they were doing and just stared at my car, it was actually kinda cool! lol plus even the r i c e r s around here check out my car every time one sees it, its pretty crazy. i just wouldnt suggest buying a car so people will like you, just impress them with your attitude and character and then once they like you, they will probably like whatever car you have

That chevelle on page two sucks! That blue and white looks bad, the white bumper looks stupid, and the wheels are freaking idiotic. Whoever ruined that awsome car needs to be hurt really bad. You don't screw with a classic musle car!

When I think muscle car, I think

5 speed 8-ball style shifter, A big carbed V8, a body line that shows a lot of tire, 15" wide rims and tires, just plain muscle.

Thirdgens can have the muscle car look, but they can't be true muscle cars. Thirdgens started life as sports cars, which they will always be.

If you're going to buy an iroc just to pick up chics, save yourself a few grand. Just go to the store, spend a few bucks on a sack of potatoes, shove one of them in your drawers (front, not back), and that will attract more chics than an iroc.

here's a chick's point of view...

lol some of your responces are hillarious! but i will say yes some girls dig f-bodies, i do! my boyfriend has 2 z28's (an 77 white very beautiful, and an 81 that hasnt run for 5 years that he's selling...would be beautiful if someone had the $ to fix it up) and an 77 buick century. yes My boyfriend is attractive and he drives nice cars but i'm not dating him for his cars, when we first started dating he only had the 81 z28 that didnt run. so, back to what to you guys said about 'hot guys drive hot cars' i dont think it is true...but i'm more into personality then anything else but i do enjoy looking at hot cars like the f-bodies, vettes, vipers and old GTOs :lala:

i dont know, i think some irocs can look very much like old muscle cars. i love the way my 85 iroc sits. it just has a mean stance. just dont be gay and lower it with underbody glows and all that other crap and youll be fine.

btw- "chicks dont like thridgens" ......WTF?????? my gf LOVES my iroc. and she doesnt even know the difference between a 4banger and a 355!!!!!

tell you what though, my daily driver is a bright red 1957 MGA....chicks go CRAZY over that car. the other day some random hottie just told me that i would "have to take her for a ride in it"
heheheheheh!!!!

too bad theres not a backseat though

A few people even stopped me at an intersection and asked if I would sell him at the price I want. No f@cking way!!
Are you talking about selling your car or your husband? J/K

From what I've noticed theres different types of girls that like different types of cars.
The girls with the visors and new age ***** make up like imports.
Then you have your brainy colledge type girl who like cute cars like bugs and lexus, etc.
But most of the times the girl say she likes your car because she likes you. Heck your car could have a hole in the roof and she'd say it was still cool just to make you smile. Or so I've been told.

Oh yah thats right I said new age ***** makeup

I say this all depends on the age of the woman. Older women like muscle cars. Mature women like muscle cars. Little girls like anything that screams money. I think the same women that appreciate Harleys like musclecars too.

As for buying the car for an image...

Get the car you like. Change it to fit your personality/taste. Your car will then be a reflection of who you are.

Car: Camaro
If you drive an IROC it means that you have a knife in your boot and like to stab people LOL
Dude, if you want to pick up girls don't rely on your car fool. A Camaro can give you an image that veries from person to person depending on what they like. If they like muscle cars then a Camaro would do it, if they are into ricers, you could smoke every one of the ricers that come out to play and you'll still get no respect, if they are hippie bastards they won't even be into racing, they'll be into eating salads and driving slow *** electric cars or volkswagens. If they are into racing in general, it depends on how fast your car is. blah blah blah. Most girls 16-18 seem to dig the import scene or anything with bling and FWD as it seems to be the case at all the cruise ins and street drags I've been to. Personally I don't care about that. I want to have the fastest emissions legal IROC in the area, and a monstrous, rev-happy street car that can snap your neck with acceleration. That's why all my money goes into speed. I'm content with my faded and blotchy paint lol, won't make a difference when I'm smoking Supras and LS1s left and right now will it?

Man, what you need is a 2.5 4cyl. I don't know if I'd have ever scored if it wasn't for my car. I'm really not that attractive. But, I know that if you've got a sweet Camaro, and cool shades then you shouldn't have any problem piucking up the ladies. the 2.5 served me well. however, you may want to also learn soem good pick-up lines... those are ALWAYS usefull.

They mentioned the 2nd Gen Firebirds more specifically a white one with the big blue bird on the hood......
I just had to add a picture of my other T/A,

By the way, I don't give a sh*t what anyone else thinks of this car,
I am 39, married for 20 years, 2 kids, and have owned this car for 22 years, in a way, it is more a member of the family, than anything else!

And my wife (then girlfriend), could have cared less when I bought it, and that was fine with me, because I bought it for ME!

I jokingly tell her, that I have had that car longer than her, and she'll go, before it does She's a good sport

You guys are gonna laugh at me for this, but while I was reading this post this is what I heard on TV:

"What is it about the wrong kinda man? In grade school it was guys with ear-rings, high school its guys with tattoos, college its motorcycles, leather jackets..."

LOL, even Batman had something to add to this thread

I think, if you're getting an IROC to get you girls, it isn't gonna work... although T-tops do help

It doesn't Work!

OK - if anybody here ever figures women out we need to start a new thread so you can share the knowledge... LOL

I would imagine that if you are looking to use your image to score with women you are looking for the kind of women who will give it up easily. You are probably not really all that interested in a relationship that last longer than a few weeks (If that!).

I have known only one female who cared enough about a car for it influence her in her relationships. She went absolutly apesh_t for the guy who got the first Z28 to appear in our highschool in the late seventies. Her next boyfriend had a Vette. She married him - but the vette doesn't really explain that marriage. That guy's dad owned a couple of Chevy Dealerships. The attraction was not the Vette but the money.

Forget buying a particular car to get girls. If the IROC fits your personality then fine. If you are buying the car to develop that image/personality you will always come across as fake. Girls hate Fake!

My advice to you - be yourself. Learn to talk to women. That means learning to listen and to show empathy for their emotions. You don't have to share those emotions but when you hear emotion or opinion make it clear that you are understanding what they are saying. Women love it when a man can understand/validate their feelings. You can be sensitive and still not be a Wimp!

Develop your social skills. Learn to put others at ease. Learn to be able to converse with anyone. Everyone has something they are passionate about. Once you find what that is ask questions. The fact that you are interested will pay dividends.

The IROC (or any muscle car) will probably be a detriment to your cause for a couple of reasons. They are associated with rednecks (sorry!), and if you have a car that you spend too much time on many women will decide that you care more about the car than anything else and will not be worth their time.

My advice is to save yourself some money and buy a Guitar (accoustic) and some lessons. If you have a good personality and can entertain people you will get the kind of attention you think the IROC will get you.

Bottom line - the car will not get you laid. Relax, be yourself and those things will take care of themselves...

Good Luck!
Speedy

Yeah it's not the car that makes the man, it's the man that makes the car. I got a couple of g/f's that i showed my car to and they loved it and said it's gonna be so sweet cruisin in the summer. A lot of chicks get really impressed when i tell them that im building my own motor and pretty much the whole car. "...i think it's awesome that your building your whole car by yourself and you know how to do all that stuff..."

Another thing is when you have a chick in the car, never lose a race!!!! But when you win races with a girl in the car it makes you that much hotter.

Just my .02 and my experiences with high school girls.

Well I havn't the time to read all the other posts, but its hard to get a true 'muscle car' look from a thirdgen. You can definatly get a nice image out of your car though with lowering spring and nice rims (even stock polished). If you're just looking to get chicks, keep your car CLEAN, inside and out. They'll notice that more than the actual car.

Heh, it doesn't change much… I'm guessing that I'm almost 2x your age and married, and my wife has learned to laugh and make fun of whoever tries to race me, she's gotten used to winning. I can only imagine what it's like to get your *** handed to you by some "old guy" (I'm 31, does that make me old?) while his wife laughs at you from the passenger seat.

The fact is that it's more like that she likes you despite your car and that she learns to like your car than that she will like you because of it. Girls can get pretty jealous of each other (we're talking cars and women )

My views on this is much like everyone elses.

I built my car out of love. When people see this car they are seeing me.

Sure you can go buy a vette, because "It get's 'um wet". But you didn't build it, you don't know **** about it. And you are not going to pull in anything but gold diggers from hell.

Now my IROC-Z is nowhere near finished (they never are).lol...

But it turns heads, and I love that...because it's mine, I built it.

I know what my car looks like with the intake, heads, cam, ect...ect.. out...

How many men can say that?

How many men can say they put it back together and it ran?

Not many, not many at all.

We here a TGO, are not the ordinary folks you see at the drive in.

I bought my car because I seen what it could be..Some people see that. But usually never get the chance to take it that far.

And if someone doesn't like me or my car. I will steal a line from Bob Seger and say "You can have you're ****ing world, see you around".

Because thats how I feel about it.

I did not buy it for chicks, I didn't buy it for looks, I bought it because it was me....

And if you didn't buy yours for that reason, sell it and buy a ****box because you ain't gonna get what you're looking far.

You can get the muscle look, but the problem with it is....Is backing that look up.

Bottom line - the car will not get you laid. Relax, be yourself and those things will take care of themselves...

Good Luck!

i had two problems with this post. Its funny because people always say oh a camaro gives the ******* image. I spent a fair bit of cash to get an iroc that was in beautiful condition (see attached pic) and never once have i gotten a red neck comment.

As for the getting laid part no the car wont get you laid. However if you are at a party and theres 30 guys there and you show up in a nice car (and the irocs sure stand out in a crowd) its basically an ice breaker with the ladies. And having the 5.7 (with a few goodies ) is a bonus too because when you take em for that first drive and they get that seat of the pants feeling you better believe theyre coming back for more.

19 Doug 90,

I did not post that to offend anyone and I do hope you did not take it that way. I agree that the car is a good icebreaker. Of course if someone sees the car and automaticlly (as people do) try to classify you, then you stand the chance of being lumped in with the folks who have these cars and either don't appreciate them or have the money to keep them up. Ya gotta admit that there are an awful lot of these cars going down the road looking real bad...

When I got my car I immediatly had it in the shop getting new paint, top, and interior. I wanted it to be obvious to all who saw it that this was not then and would not be just another thrown away thirdgen.

The ******* thing is a sore spot with me. I have always considered myself to be a "good ole boy." Is there anyone on this thread who knows the diffrence?

Like you, no one who has seen the car has called it a ******* car but I have been present when thirdgens were disparaged - usually when people did not know I owned one...

They are great cars when fixed up. I like looking at all of them even the ones with a dent in the quarter panel and no paint on the front spoiler. I can look at a car like that and not judge the owner. I see that car and I think to myself "Man, I'll bet there has been some fun had in that car!"

Back on the subject: Alabama Thunder said it right. You buy the car because you see the potential. As it develops it becomes a representation of you. You build the car out of love. Unfortunatly most women can't identify with that.

The car won't get you laid but it can get you noticed. The rest is up to you.

no i wasnt taking offence to what you said, you were just commenting on the fact that some people look at third gens as red neck cars.....i just dont buy it. I always hear people on the net talking about oh people will think youre a red neck etc etc whatever its just a general statement but i have never encountered anything like that in real life all ive gotten towards my car (since it is in good shape) is thumbs up and praise.

If I want to get noticed I ride my motorcycle. Almost anybody can shell out the cash and buy and nice car, and any 12 year old can drive. Piloting a bike is a real skill and gets real attention. What's better, giving a ride in your car where she's in the passenger seat, or on a bike and holding on to you.

Yeah, chicks dig imports the most it seems. Especially one's with triple decked huge "fins" (spoilers) and a loud muffler. Sadly. But one of my friend's has a '67 camaro (nice first car eh?) and we went out cruising over the weekend....
Well fist a brand new 911 turbo pulls up next to us and yells, "Nice Car!!!" and we say "you too". He says he just paid 80 grand for it the night before.
Then a guy on a motorcycle at a stoplight says "nice car".
Next a guy in a brand new Tiburon yells "nice car"
Next some kids in a Tempo ask us if it's for sale.
Then a two girls ogle over it and you can see them mouthing love something something.
Then we pull up next to a bunch of hot chicks in a prelude, they're next to us and the driver yells "Wanna lick my (I'll let you guess here)?!" while a girl in the backseat is making some.... sexual guestures at us.
All in the course of like an hour and a half.

*** I LOVE first gen camaro's!! After school I'm getting a '69.

Heck, I love all f-bodies!!! How the heck are they so cool? I want all 4 gens

There are some hilarious comments here, but sadly I agree most are quite true. Particularly the ones indicating that most girls tend to not feel very impressed by ThirdGens unless you have them painted neon green with twenty inch chrome rims and an insanely loud stereo.

Want a car girls like? Get a Celica, or a Cougar. Perhaps some sort of SUV.

Or just find a girl who doesn't care one way or the other what you drive. At least, that's what I did.

He got a hell of a good deal if it was a 996 Turbo for 80k... aren't they like 120k new usually?

This summer I had a old-ish guy in a '69 Corvette 427 (black) tell me I had "a nice sounding engine"

If you want the 1st gen look, and believe me. they are bad to the bone. Then buy a friggin' 1st gen! Oh and another thing, chicks seem to love a rough lumpy idle, from a big block chevy, heard that from several of them. My buddies and I's best guess as to why is that maybe the vibrations, does alittle number on the mound, but who knows, we don't....
