Thirdgens 50 years from now.
I was just wondering what you think will happen to thirdgens 50 years from today? Will you guys still own or drive one? Will thirdgens still be around like cars from the 50's 60's and 70's are still driven today?

How Many 50's cars do you see on the road that haven't been restored? And out of those cars, how many have been restored? Basically You'd only see them in museums, or in the rare case of someone keeping the car in great shape, and doing the maintinance/repairs on it when it needs it. Though I'd have to give you props if you could keep a third gen up that long, thats alot of money, and alot of time.

I dont know about 50 years, but I know I'll have mine for another 20 or so. Once I get out of college, get a decent job, my car is getting parked, stuff that I have ignored since its a daily driver will get done, and it will only go to shows. Only way I would get rid of it is if something major happened, it is fully insured and all ready paid for, so the only thing costing money on it gas, parts. and 99% of the parts going onto it are optional.

Hehe, I forgot that in 50 years I will be 70. I don't know if I will be living that long either, let alone driving. Ok, lets cut the years down in half to 25. So what will happen to your thirdgen in 25 years?
Where I live in the Summer/Winter Champaign, IL, I don't see too many really old cars. Here in Carbondale where there are a lot of little country towns, I may not see 50's cars, but I do see a lot of restored and unrestored cars from the 60's and 70's and they are not just pickups either. I have to drive out of the city to see them, but they are definately there and still in service.

In 50 yrs I'll be almost 90 and my car will be 70 !
I'll still be driving my Camaro while the ex-ricers will be looking at old photos.
If gas prices stay reasonable and cars don't switch to solar power or something, you can rest assured guys who enjoy f-bodies today will be out there restoring them for years to come with their sons/grandsons.
Look at all the 50's Chevys out there. See the prices...
Look at the Chevelles and prices for decent ones. The stopped making Chevelles when?

On another note, imagine trying to find parts for our cars 50 years from now??? I get Automobile Restorer magazine, and they've got a guy in there who went cross-country on dirt/gravel/unpaved roads in a '39 Plymouth. Where the hell does he find parts?!? Great mag, by the way, a bit costly ($30/year), but it's 90% tech, and although it's in black & white- there's NO advertisements!!

I'll hopefully be around, I hope to still have my GTA. My 84 will be long gone and I would have either sold my Firehawk to pay for my retirement or I would have given it to my son. I think my GTA will still be roaming the roads and the Hawk will most likely be in private collection and not enoyed out on the road

My 1964 Impala SS will be 88 years old, have been restored twice (the first one hasn't even happened yet!), and will be owned by a Museum, because it will be one of the last ones left. All of us will have personal jets because they will be about as expensive as cars now a days. Computers will have unimaginable speeds, and we will no longer have dial-up internet connection (thank ***, no more 21.6!). Of course, new cars will be self driven (but what's the fun in that, right?) We will have been to Mars and further, and will have colonies on other planets. We will have made contact with the aliens, and will have them living peacefully on our planet along with humans. And finally, we will have figured out the mystery of area 51!

i have no idea what things are going to be like 25 or 50 yrs from now, but if i'm still around my 84' Z will be right there with me 
if there still is gas (at a reasonable price) i'll still be running that, if not.. i'll have to drop in some other kinda motor that runs what ever fuel they'll have then
but we'll all just have to stick around to find out what really happens

Fifty years from now i'll be sitting on my front porch in a chair looking at my camaro and remembering how fun it was to drive it. actually i'll still be doing burnouts with it when i'm 67. :rockon:

Also, the newer cars that are electric are slower than ever before..... they are also lowering speed limits all over the country, i think the new cars in 23 years will more like run 23's in the 1/4 not 3's but then again theyll get like 2000 miles per gallon!!

50 years, Ill be 68. Still driving the beast, only by then it will be on another restore along with my grand national, 67 camaro, 69 vette, and my 3.8 turbo chevette (cars I will get, vette and maro are garunteed). My 2.8 camaro will most likely be long gone, or given to the first born male child.
If age is an indication of better driving, then my 50 year old father, who continues to do very immature things with his camaro, must have been a total @$$ hole driver 30 years ago.
