I never thought I could grow to love a car so much, and then the true colors came out as it snowed! I just got my 92 z-28 in march/may! What a beautiful summer! Well, New Jersey got it's first taste of snow this year on thurs. We got 10in. To start, the cold weather killed my battery! So I bought a new battery, and I had to change this once the snow passed. (It helps to have a garage) So I got the battery in and the car started! The fun didn't really start until I tried to get my car on the road! It's parked in the street, so the bastards plowed me in! I shovled my car the best I could, I let it warm up for a good 15min. I get in to pull away and I'm fish talin' all over. ( I'm pissed) I try rockin back and forth, no go. I try wood blocks under the rear tires, no go! At this point I'm FURIOUS!!!! I was fish tailing so much that I was in the middle of my street.....STUCK! It would go anywhere, I just wanted to park my car where it was before. So after TWO hours of spinning tires, fish tailing, kicking the car, kicking anything in my way, the car started to slide back towards the curb. I put it in reverse and got it to park next to the curb. I'm now driving my girls car until it all melts! Please, talk me into not selling this car! I wish I lived where there was no snow! What do you guys do in the snow? Weights in the back? Hey, thanx for reading this I had to vent.....I feel better.........

Two things of tube sand in back and 4 new tires on another set of rims. 14" tires about 205-215's The rear being snow tires. The narrower profile will allow the car to bite into the snow better and the snow tires are able to release the snow from within the treads.

Hey I'm from the buffalo area and I know snow!

PS. I don't drive my 3rd gen in the snow! But have had many RWD cars that sucked in the snow until I changed tires and put weight in back.

I had no problem in this snow and I got just as much as you did. I don't do anything different from dry weather driving.

BTW, I use BFG G-Force KDWS tires in 245/50/16 size, best tires I have ever used in the snow or rain and they have excellent dry traction too.

last winter i moved my camaro ahead like 5 feet to shovel out behind it and couldn't even get it to back up those 5feet on gravel with snow on it, i had 235/60/R14s on it, so now this year it's sitting ina friends garage, mainly because it;s painted now and the motors gone so it won't be going anywhere

Not in Champaign county. One day In high school we got over 1.5 ft of snow and they still did not cancell school!!!!!!!! Those MO FAKERS of school board administrators. All of them let thier kids stay home too!!! It's been 5 years and I'm still mad about that.


My Nitto 450s (245/50-16s) Don't handle the snow at all. I have to drive extra slow, otherwise I will start to slide and fish tail.

last year here in Mi we got one snow storm that had 3 ft.... we just went on buisness as usual...i do think school was canceled the following day though.. stuff kept coming..

Yeah, snow sucks, but I wouldn't want to live in a place with no snow ever. Since I've grown up in Illinois, I'm used to it. I couldn't imagine going to the beach in January, it would feel weird. This is my third winter driving, and I'm getting better at it. Once you know what you can and can't do, you should be okay.

From what I understand by putting weight in the back of a rear wheel drive car, you shift the center of gravity back a bit giving the car better traction. (of course if you have the proper tires to begin with) The further back the weight the more effect it has, or conversely, the less weight that you would need. I would agree however, it does over time take a toll on the springs. Your choice spring fatigue or traction.

plus the guy who sold me my rims and tires told me that putting weight in the rear was a bad idea because if u ever went into a spin the weight would just throw u into it more and the spin would be worst....

Not true...take something (like a bottle or pen or hotwheels car) and spin it...spins good. Now add weight to one end. You'll notice it spins less and the heavy end goes forward first. Some thing with your car. You may end up goin backwards but you will at least not be spinning as much.

I hate snow. First winter I owned my Camaro I wrecked it (January of '99). It's been fixed and running great until this August (rob bearings are shot).

After my '84 Z was fixed, I put tube sand in the trunk (directly above the rear axel). It helped a lot. Ever since, I will not drive another rear wheel sports car through winter.... That's why I know own a Grand Am....

Heh, this is probably true....but in Florida....you've got to sort through tons of 300 lb 90 yr. old women in bikinis, or old fatass men in Speedos for every one or two hotties you see . Last time I went to a beach in FL, I needed a puke bag, lol!

Ah, just messin w/ya dude. I don't know how much longer I can deal with the ice in my driveway, it's starting to drive me nuts! At least the snow hasn't been too bad, YET!

Maniac...Damn, that's some serious damage ! Did you go through insurance for that, or just have it fixed? I've been going thru hell trying to find a body shop that won't total my car out (hit in a parking lot, I wasn't even there) and all that's mashed on mine is the rear passenger quarter, aero wing, taillight, and bumper cover! And I agree w/ you, I won't drive it in winter anymore either. This time I sorta got caught in it, and was gonna store it for the winter the DAY AFTER it was hit in the lot . Now my winter solution is a 4 banger auto Mustang. No problems at all!

Unfortunately, being 18, owning a 14 year old car at the time, I had insurance, but nothing to cover that. Through an accaintance, found a body shop an hour away. They replaced the panel, repaired some minor rust and repainted the whole car.... The paint job is crap and the same rust is coming back, but the panel has held solid.

My Camaro looks pretty, but needs some under body work (floor pans have already been replaced, but it needs some more) and a motor rebuild (with the bad rod bearings, it's not going anywhere anymore).

I'm actually finally buying a house with a 2 car garage. Hopefully I can get some money together and restore my ENTIRE Camaro in a few years.... In the mean time, I want to figure out how to afford a 2nd Camaro

Those pics are why I regret ANYONE driving a rear wheel drive sports car in the winter (even a Mustang owner, may not like the car, but sometimes we like the owners).... I live about 5 minutes from Lake Erie and MAN do we get hit!!!

The ZZ4 is driven year round with the 87 Monte. Both work great in the snow. The 90 uses wheels from an 83 TA for the winter and the 87 uses the stock wheels. Haven't had any problems with control here in Wisconsin. I need to find the pic of the winter we had a foot and a half of snow. By the formula there was a drift, so there was about three feet of snow on it. My favorite winter!

Hate to say it but in the late 80's in Idaho the T/A got two bags of salt in the back and a set of four studded snow tires.. makes me ill to think of it out in the winter but it went ok...

As for a real snow state on street tires? I would never ever try it too scary, especially when the roads get their coating of packed snow.

For all the warm people in the south out there, in high school in order for it to close there had to be three feet of snow in a night and drifting, or -35 degrees or more... A big pat on the back for all you guys up north who have to trudge through snow drifts to get to school like I did.. Notice I am in the south now I do miss my ski doo though..

Park The car in a garage and drive a TRUCK with 4x4!

Even at that you may have some trouble. My truck is really light over the rear wheels so I have to put about 300 lbs in the bed to get rear wheel traction. Tall, narrow, deep lug tires are the best. Wide tires get you riding up on top of the snow where there is no traction. The weight helps keep you from riding on top of the snow. Who ever though that the weight would make it worse if you spun out, is wrong that extra 100 lbs or whatever you could put in a small car isnt going to give you all that much more momentum when you figure the car weighs like 3500 lbs. And if you are spinning the extra weight will help the tires dig in/bite so you can regain control.

Sorry to say it but f-bodys weren't designed for snow and shouldnt be driven in it. Just my opinion.

Well sometimes I wish we had snow (I live in Australia) where I live I can go to the snow if I want, but we can winters that aren't TOO cold and beautiful summers....I can drive the camaro all year round!
And I think that's worth the trade off eh? =)
