polishing wheels
I have my older style IROC wheels almost done and they are shinny but they have tiny scratches in them that I can't seem to get out. Any advice? They are really close but I keep going over them with the fine 1500 grit and back with the tripoli compound and white rouge but still can't get the little scratches (swirl?) out.
Thanks!

Welcome to the boards.
One thing you should know is the search button comes in handy quite often. Polishing rims has been asked dozens of times and everyone seems to have their own technique. I recommend this post:

and this webpage:
Buffing and Polishing
I hope this helps, good luck

Been there, done that. I have read and re-read all of the polishing vs buffing tips so I am looking for someone who has had this problem and solved it. Thanks.

I would assume you're using other grits as well, before the 1500, correct? If so, when you are up to 1500, try wetsanding with 1500, then using Mothers Aluminum Polish.

400 is the last grit that will remove scratches, and wetsanding with it prolly won't help.
It's important to take your time with 400 grit.

I took one wheel all the way back from a bright finished wheel to the 400 wet then 600 wet and 1500 wet. There were no marks or scratches at all after the 1500. It was very smooth, thought not quite bright. But when I hit it with the tripoli compound and wheel the shine popped out right away but still have those little hairy scratch marks in the direction of the wheel. So I used the white rouge and then the red. I guess I will go back and try the white with a medium wheel and then a softer wheel and see if that gets me there. Let me know if you have any ideas. Really appreciate the help. This board and website are really great. Has helped me a lot already. I am amazed at how much info is out there and that people are willing to share.
Thanks again and Happy Holidays!
