whats the relation with a DeLorean
i used to post here a long time ago, and i recently came across these photos of a DeLorean, i noticed the grid taillights, and was wondering if anyone had the info or story behind it, check it out
some features like the dual headlights seem to be a take off of a DeLorean.

I agree there seems to be some relation. Check out this pic of my car with the front clip off. Not that great of a front shot but it looks like a Delorean without the front clip IMO. Kinda interesting huh

Could have something to do with the fact that John Z DeLorean used to work for GM, and designed the Pontiac GTO. I believe the headlamps are the same units also, but I may be mistaken. My friend owns one so I should know by now!

I guy in my class just bought a Deloren, he brought the door in to fix a dent, man what a pain in the ***, he's got at least 35-45 hours on the thing and he's still not finished, I don't think John DeLorean was thinking of how to fix these cars when he said "hey lets make it from stainless steel."
BTW, acescarrsRS thats a real nice blue you got on the front, what color blue is it?

First post but why not...
The lights were just a 70's style issue - DeLorean had several ideas on rear lights but they all had the "grid" look. It's replicated in many cars from Europe to Japan.
The front lights were used as a "cross platform" part. Used in Audis and GM cars alike. It was meant to be so the car was cheap to maintain. The lights are indeed the same as a Camaro or a Caprice.
I'm Si_Camaro's friend.. I've had 2 DeLoreans and am looking for my third...![Wink](https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/images/smilies/wink.gif)
Nice place by the way!

Delorean was a veritable genius when it came to creating amazing cars, and as a result he definitely influenced GM design for decades. In my opinion Delorean is practically the Frank Lloyd Wright of car designers. That alone explains the obvious similarities between the two cars. Also, the grid-style taillights were quite a new thing at the time our cars were made.
On a side note, as I've said before, Deloreans also hold the distinction of still looking bloody gorgeous with rear window louvers!

Deloreans were made from 81-83, so that would make sense the similar lights with the start of the 3rd gens at that time. He wasn't with Pontiac anymore by then though. He was into creating a new type of sports car and buying CRACK, heh.
I see them for sale quite frequently. They aren't that difficult to locate. Most all have the same problems, but if you're into them, you learn how to restore and maintain them.

John DeLorean used to work for GM, Pontic to be exact. He designed your third gen firebirds he wanted to design a car based off the corvette called the banshe GM said they did not want to compete with themselves. So eventually he retired frem GM. And thought up the car known as the DeLorean he looked and looked for a factory that would take a risk and build it for him ovecourse no one wanted to. So he finally found a factory in Dublind who wound take a chance building the car. And that is why it looks like your third gens
