Original GFX or 91/92 Style?

Hey,

I just bought an 86 IROC, it's white now, but it needs paint. I am going to paint it yellow, and I'm thinking 78 Corvette Canary yellow at the moment, if anyone has any better looking yellow let me know.

The question is should I use 91/92 ground effects, or stick with the original ones without the vent holes? If the IROC hood was staying, I'd leave them, but the hood is going. I love the IROC hood, but it's heavy and rusty, so it's goin away. I will probably put just a plain old 2 inch cowl on it. I want to keep the IROC stickers on the door, but without the hood and with the 91/92 GFX, will it look just plain wrong?

I like the newer GFX better, but I've never seen them with IROC stickers. Just wanted to get some opinions on this, and maybe some pictures?

Thanks,
Jared

Well that doesn't stand out nearly as much as I had imagined. I think the stripe around the bottom distracts from them enough.

I wonder if it would be more noticable on a yellow car? I guess I could always just get extra paint and if I didn't like them I could change back...

Oh and BTW that is a very nice lookin car.

If I had an IROC of any year...I would leave the stock ground effects...but maybe add some 17 or 18 inch custom wheels, lower it...and just spice it up some. Some people might think it's actually a 91-92 RS...with IROC decals on the doors and IROC wheels...

Yeah that's what I was worried about, but I figure 1. I can explain it to my friends who are the only people that I really care about, and 2. Half the people running around out there won't know the difference anyway.

I don't want to try to keep it all IROC because I don't want to start into that. It's going to be a daily driver and probably get upwards of 200K before long. Preserving it's originality isn't on the top of the priority list, but it isn't at the bottom either.

I guess since I've made the decision to lose the hood and paint it something other than IROC yellow, I've been less and less concerned about it being true to form. It's not like it's going to become a collector's item any time soon. There will always be on out there more original and with less miles than this one.

I just don't want it to look silly

Thanks for the input,
Jared

I agree, I can always just explain it to people who catch it. And if people want to think its an RS, let them. That'll make it even better if I get to swap an LS1 in

Use the 91/92 gfx and Keep the stickers. If you have to explain to someone, it's because they are dating your car by the ground effects.
No matter what you do, someone is going to dog it. You have the people who hate it just because its a Camaro, and the ones who hate it because its a Chevy. Then there are the ones who love Camaro, but hate your car because it does not have date coded plug wires and inspection marks. and on and on.
Bottom line, what do you like?

Stitchop, That was kinda what I was thinkin.

Also, What's the deal with the IROC decals, I see some are on the front of the doors and some are on the back? Why the difference? Did it change after a certain year? The stock ones on mine are on the front of the door and it's an 86, and I saw a 90 droptop in another post that had them on the back of the door...

Someone care to shed some light on the issue?

Thanks again,
Jared

If I remember correctly, 85-87 IROCs had the door decals toward the front of the car and 88-90 IROCs had them toward the rear

They must have gotten alot faster in 88 to cause them to slide back the door that far...

Thanks,
Jared

i'd use the 91/92's and keep the stickers, i put ground effects on an 85 coupe and i kind of regret not looking for 91/92's.

Let me be the first to say that 87-92 Ralley sports are more of an iroc then any 82-84 z28 stock for stock. If a 82 z28 and a 92 rs were in the same lot with the same price tag, with the same options I would take the RS.

Yeah it's kinda disappointing to find out that my 92RS with the LO3 came out pushing 175HP and the IROC I just bought in all it's showroom splendor only poked out 190...

I like my RS, just not the car I wanna tear into and do anything serious with.

Thanks for the responses

Jared
