How did you guys paint your engine bays?

This is to the all-out restorers/customizers/whatever. I got my 89 as a project car, got the tired L03 out and Im buildin up a vortec 383 for it. I want the engine bay to be clean as hell, so I took out the fan box (no haters, this aint a granny car, I got windows and itll be garaged durin winter), sheet metaled over the hole, removed washer tank, wipers, everything that isnt essential for te motor to run. So right now Im workin on gettin all the grime/oil/grease out of avery nooka nd crannie, but Im still wonderin how Im gonna paint it. The car itself is gonna be black with silver, so Im thinkin black. But has anyone used spray can to do theirs, like hi temp, or did u get it painted with the rest of the car?

The main reason I wanna go ahead and do this is so when I get the motor ready, I can drop it in and now have to worry about pulling it back out when I get the car painted. I can go ahead and get everything under the hood done while I got the motor out. So, that being said..... Any pics/suggestions??

When I had my motor out I decided to paint the engine bay. I took out everything I could, sanded, and painted just like you would the rest of the car. If it was me i would paint the engine bay the same color the outside of the car is.

lots of cans of degresser first. sand and sand some more. Use some pre clean and wipe everything down about 2 or 3 times. Any bare metal use a good 2 part etching primmer. Than reg primmer. than sealer. than paint and hope u don't get any fish eyes from missed gresse. I hate doing engine bays

alright, everyone is in favor of painting it the same color, but me and my frind took 8 cans of flat black, and went to town on his enginebey when it was out, and when it was all in, it looked great

During the motor swap, I used a crap load of degreaser, sanded certain areas down, taped off what I didn't want to paint on, a couple of cans of semi-gloss black paint (2-3 coats I think), and that was that.

The car is gray on the outside, but much like a black interior, it goes with anything.

well for now at least, I got some rustoleum hard hat Flat Black. Cleaned the hell outta the bay, de-greased it, and went to town with black! Im not goin show quality on mine though, something that just looks subtle and isnt flashy. Dont wanna take attention away from that stroker now would we

The car was originally painted white. I rebuilt the engine, gunked the engine bay, sanded, primed, and painted it metallic forest green (3 coats of base and 3 coats of clear).
