Been Their Done That, i had a 1990 IROC (sold it already) with a BC4 Police package and the light bar was left installed. (i dont know if it was the origional bar) I came flying over a hill at about 65 or 70 with the lights on and an aftermarket siren i had installed (just to go all out) blaring with about 100 Mustangs on the side of the road. I came to a sliding halt sideways in front of them as they as they all scatered like roaches. It was quite funny untill the next morning. You see the stoplights out here have cameras on them, i had forgotten that detail. An officer showed up at my door the next morning with photographs and gave me a warning for speeding, a warning for wreckless driving, and a $900 ticket for impersonating a police officer. I had to show up in court and they almost took my IROC away. Trust me it's very illegal i learned the hard way. And $900 is not worth it at all.

the only reason people try to impersonate a police officer is so they can pull over helpless young ladies and take advantage of them. if you wanna play cop, play a video game.

I was kidding about pulling over girls but what i wanted to do was intergrade it with my alarm so when someone sets it off they will see the reflection of coplights and im sure that would scare the hell out of them when they see red and blue.

I know for a fact(my dad is a Deputy) that you will get in MAJOR trouble with these lights. I know in Oklahoma you can't have any after-market red or blue light visible from the front or rear of the vehicle. It takes care of all the hicks with the lights in their pickups. But, I would just go by my better judgement. I know that the story of the police Camaro is oh so true, it happens regularly here, peeps like to put that sort of thing in their trucks, but they get in trouble in the end.

WTF? This has got to be the most stupid post I have ever come across. I probably flame at the most 2 times in one year. You can count this as my first flame for 2001. Yea, cop lights. You might as well go all out and install neon lights underneath the car, bright chrome fender flares, chrome rocker panel "guards" with the word IROC in script letters, 20" gold wire wheels, dual 5" chrome tailpipe, 5ft wing, custom flame paint job, gabriel ProMatic Air shox so you can jackup the backend, cow seat covers, chain steering wheel, 10" monster tach to mount on dash, and a Duke Boys programmable horn. Geez.

2. A Stroker GT is my own design, take a 1984 Firebird do a few body mods, stick a big 'ol 383 Stroker in it and a TH-350 trans. and voila, a "Stroker GT"

I know that any red OR blue lights facing forwared are illegal in NJ unless you are a)a cop, b)a firechief, c)volenteer EMS. Even then you're not really alowed to have anything beyond something like 50,000 candle power. I know flashlights that are way brighters and nobody really cares about that law. My friend installed hidden strobes on his 98 ram and they looked great, we never used them to pull anybody over though. Just for pictures and standing still fun. I must admit that with the EMS retired police car, lots of people freak out. We always play with it when they're driving it around town. People would pull over into the right lane and we'd tail the "cop car" then pass them going like 70 on the right and pull back infront of him. It was so funny to just think about what all the people behind us were thinking :-)
I must say the strobes for the security system are a great idea. I have 3 sirens in my car (one inside), relocated avistart 6500 under carpet under seat, a pager system with boasted range from 1 mile to 5 miles :-), dual zone detector, all the sensors you can think of, and about 4 different start kill features including my favorite and original design. Not the fuel pump switch but the trans switch. When the ECM doesn't know that you're in N,P or in drive it won't let you start the car or pop the hatch. I'm doing a tech article on it. It's a lot easier than have the car crank with no fuel. I have another great original idea which is to use a relay and an option on your remote to stop the car after it is being driven off.

LOL...I am a fire truck,I carry an automotive fire extinquisher right up front where I can reach it right away.I hate when you drive by someone and there car is going out cheech and chong style, and theres nothing they can do about it. It works good too because I've had it for over a year and havn't seen one car fire!
84transam: strobes on the station wagon is no joke, people will pull over thinking you are an under cover.
when I was 17 I was making my way home on main street at a cool 100mph (totally sh*t faced) I wasn't surprized to see the disco lights behind me,but I was surprized to see
these weren't the usual lights,it was a '98 tuarus SHO with strobe headlights.I wasn't sure if it was a real cop or not,I wasn't aware they had a new undercover vehicle.I decided It was a phony and that I just wanted to go home and wasn't in the mood for games.thats when I reached for the shifter and left OD for a meaner 2nd gear,it was the most abusive downshift I can remember. It surely was a thrill to see how quickly those '98 225HP ford SHO headlights began to disapear in the rearview of a bone stock '84 TA!! however, the fun ended about a mile later when I saw two marked cruizers at 12oclock.I turned down a side street and let the cruizers catch up.I played inoccent and they believed me when I told them I was afraid of the SHO because I didn't recognize it as a real police car.luckly they didn't smell 15 beers on me and only hit me for what the marked cruizers cought on radar. cool just a speeding ticket,I had no idea how lucky I was. I DO NOT advocate drunk driving, not cool,I've seen too much bad sh*t to even get behind the wheel drunk, even just to listen to the radio or use the cig lighter and if I wasn't drinking that night I would have been confident enough to give the two crown victorias a run for their money, but I probably wouldn't have been doing 100 down a suburban 35mph main street in the first place .ALCOHOL is BAD, now that that is cleared up. you should have seen the look on the SHO cops face!! he wanted to check for "illeagal mods" but was just as surprized to see a slightly overheated stock engine!!I'd like to think that after that, they weren't so confident in their new "stealth" ford tuarus SHO.

The newer SHO's aren't very good. The older ones are the cool pieces. I don't like fords much but the SHO is in my book the best 4 door sedan for the early 90s. That 220hp Yamaha engine screams when it's given a better exhaust, MAF, and big air cleaner. There are even supercharger kits which look really trick. This one they make has a bar that goes across the radiator so the SC can be mounted closer the the intake. Better the long bar then a long pipe. It's all fun but still those DOHC v6's can't pump out the torque or hp like a SB chevy. Those new SHOs have 3.0L v8s but they are just crap.

since we are on the subject of pigs i have 2 questions that i hope someone helps me answer cuz it could mean my license. im in Summerville (near Charleston), SC and being a teenager w/ a camaro i get pulled and searched all the time. Is it illegal to replace your white license plate lights w/ wal-mart blue bulbs? he said they were improper lights but on the ticket it says "no license plate lights".
on new years i was riding down the road at about 11pm and there was a cop sitting in the grass in the middle w/o any lights on waiting to catch someone. are they allowed to sit there w/o any lights on? i've been told that they aren't. someone please give me some info...

Yep, in the Charleston area (and probably SC in general) they can sit there in the dark w/ no lights on. l know, l got busted on I-26 right before the Ashley Phosphate exit two years ago. Saw him sitting just as l passed him. Oops.
To the blue light question. Im pretty sure its illegal. The theory being its not OE lighting, l believe. Or something like that.
Sorry

Come on guys, This cant be serious. I cant believe that putting strobe lights in your car is something to do for fun. Not even for an alarm. i can go on and on about how rediculous it is but I wont.
Tow trucks have emergency lights too. How about masquerading as one of those too?

"Any red or blue light visible from the front or rear of the vehicle" is illegal unless it was stock, ie. tailights. So, they could also get you for "Improper illumination of the tag" for having blue lights on your license plate. My dad is a Deputy Sheriff with Leflore County Sheriff's Dept. This is all in the Oklahoma Statutes, so go ahead, it's your decision to put the lights on there, but it's not my fault if you get an "impersonating a police officer" ticket.
