you can use high temp paint from any autostore or hardware store. best thing to do is take the tips off your tailpipes, and follow the directions on the can (which will include baking in the oven at 400 degrees for 20-30 minutes or somthing like that) so as long as you follow instructions it wont flake or burn.
only problem you might have is getting gunmetal temp paint, you might have to order it online if you search or go to a manufacturors website.

one of my buddies did a photoshop with his RS with gloss black wheels and gloss black tips, it didnt look too bad. chrome is over-rated anyway.

Powder coat them. I was thinking of doing that to my tips. Eastwood sells all different colors of powder coat.
I just bought an oven last week but it didn't come with a manual and I don't want to burn the shop down. It would just be for small parts though.

I painted my tail pipes with silver engine paint a while ago, and they look great. No one really sees them, since they're turndowns...but I think they look great! You should be able to find some gunmetal engine/brake paint somewhere. Check boat stores too, they have engine paint.

i love the lt1 tips got a polished set going on mine.
but i painted my exhaust tips on my jetta black and they look suprisingly good. fits the car perfect. i just used the 500 degree engine paint. your tips dont get hot enough, you dont need the really high temp stuff you have to bake.
