Nose emblem differences...
Forgive me if this is in the wrong section, but I have a question about the nose emblems... Are all of the nose emblems for third gen Camaro's the screw in type? Or are there years where it was changed to the stick-on type? I had bought a replacement emblem for my sport coupe but now my RS is without one so I went to attach it but there are no holes in the bumper cover so I was trying to figure out the difference. Im sure the body shop wouldnt have filled in the holes.... I dont want 2 drill the holes if I dont have to..

Re: Nose emblem differences...
My 89 GTA nose emblem was merely a stick-on, but, the body does have a hole, and the emblem has a round "bump" of sorts, to correctly locate the emblem.

Re: Nose emblem differences...
Here's my 89 GTA emblems, and the Z28 rocker emblem of the 84 Z28 I parted out.
The Z28 emblem has studs on it, to hold it in place.
On the back of the GTA nose emblem, I circled the bump in red, but it was hard to get a pic of. I haven't figured out how to turn the flash off completely. The bump is no more than 3/16" tall. You can KINDA make out the white off the flash, on the bump I circled. Wish my camera didn't suck so bad.

The emblem that I have has 2 stems on the back with threads on them; the bumper cover which was put on after and accident doesnt have any holes for the stems to slide or screw into...

You could always Dremel off the studs, then use good double sticky tape on it. The nose emblem is the only GTA emblem that has a locating stud. It only locates it, and doesn't secure it in any way.

Re: Nose emblem differences...
I have noticed that on my '86 Iroc it doesn't have the holes either so i just thought oh well ill shave the emblem like my sport coupe was. But im not sure but i think that the front bumper cover is aftermarket because it is really thick/Hard... but it looks as if there is some glue or somthin in the emblem spot but i see what your sayin....

Get some good double-sticky tape, and slap'em on. They'll be OK. I'm saving my GTA ones, for when the car gets repainted.

I'm sorry what?? Double sided tape? That thing will fly off in 5 minutes, my friend super glued his and it lasted until we hit 50 mph and flew off. Epoxy will definetly hold, id use that.

Re: Nose emblem differences...
Lets see...I just pulled a set off my 89, making them 18 years old...C5s have the cross flags held on that way..TONS of cars and trucks do...
Now, this isn't the simple stuff you buy at Home Depot...I'm referring to AUTOMOTIVE quality stuff. You only get one chance to get it right, set it in the wrong spot, and you are outta luck! It's there to stay. All the factory 3rd gen emblems are ALL attached that way.
Super glue....No wonder...That stuff is barely stronger than scotch tape! Epoxy? Sure...if you want it squeezing out, and smearing up your paint job...
The C5 flags on the fenders on my Tahoe stayed put until I sold it. Saw it 2 years later, and they were still there. And no, he didn't ever hafta put them back on.

Yeah some side emblems have them, but thats factory tape, we're talking about a nose emblem. I used epoxy, no problems. I still dont think the tape is permanent enough.

Re: Nose emblem differences...
The nose emblem I pulled off the 89 a couple of months ago, was just tape. No screws, no bolts, no mechanical device of any kind, just tape.

Re: Nose emblem differences...
I'm not 100% sure but I think that all the camaro front covers had a hole for the nose emblem and the aftermarket front covers don't. Odds are it probably got replaced somewhere along the line.

Re: Nose emblem differences...
My nose emblem, in fact all of my emblems are on with double sided 3m tape that I got from the body shop. I have had my car up to 115m.p.h. and all of my embs are still there. Maybe at a higher speed they might fly off but that 3m stuff is pretty good for normal speeds.

Re: Nose emblem differences...
3M automotive double-backed tape works well but I don't like the thickness because it lifts things up too far. 3M Plastic Emblem Adhesive works amazingly well, but just make sure you don't screw up because your paint won't ever be the same again.
Personally, I'd drill the holes and mount it like GM did originally. I'm just a stickler for doing things the same as stock whenever I can, and whenever it's the best method. While the Pontiacs were stuck on, the Camaro nose emblems were held on with two speed nuts from behind.

Re: Nose emblem differences...
That's kinda what I meant....3rd gen emblems, ever had any mechanical attachment. Be it screw studs, holes for clips, etc. The only ones I know of that did, were the early years of the 3rd gens, like the Z28 emblems on the side ground fx, that had push-in clips, and no tape. I have one off my old '84 Z28. One of the clip sets is broke off, in he pic, but with double-sided tape, it would go back on great. I just don't own the Camaros any more.
