all good questions
The before, during and more after pics can be found on the site. The color is Chevy's 1998 Indigo Blue Metallic (the navy color on the newer chevy pickups) kind of a navy with a lighter blue flake in it. I'm not sure of the paint code, but if you talk to a paint shop and ask them for that color they could give it to you. It looks like clear with blue flake when you shoot it (doesn't cover well) so I used over 5 quarts on it, and it has 5 coats of clear, but has been buffed and polished.
The car originally was white from the van nayues (sp?) plant and had peeled in some places. when I got it, someone had had a cheap job shot over it in teal with little prep work. When someone pulled a hit & run on it and a good deal of paint fell off I decided to strip it down and get a fresh job done.
I used an aircraft coating remover and a razor scraper to ger the paint off. I took the whole car down to bare metal. I replaced fenders which had major bondo work on them with GM replacements and replaced the cracked windshield and had many little door dings plus the collision repair which were all fixed by the shop.
The paint job was done by David Gonzalez, a painter recommended to me by some people at work. He mostly does small touch-up jobs, but has also doen some killer rods and muscle cars. With body work, replacement parts, paint and labor, it cost me around $3300.
Any more questions, feel free to ask

Very nice looking car. I love the blue, but I'm a little partial since mine is also blue. Just got mine back from the paint shop last week. Looks like the guy did a real good job on yours.

thanks! Yeah, he did a good job, I've gotten a little road rash (flying rocks, etc) but it's holdin up well. I know I'm gonna have to redo it down the road to keep it lookin good, but the main goal was to get a nice solid base to work from, and I'm confident I got it

Does anyone do their own paint jobs? How much did just the paint cost you? How much did he use? Thanks.

he used 5 quarts, but he said usually it's around 3. This particular color doesn't cover well so 5 qts were needed. If I remember right the paint was $60/qt. Not sure about the clear though.
