Any of you buy back an old car?

Hey there everyone...
I am in need of an opinion..

I sold my IROC-Z last year to a friend of the family. Since then he has put a cowl hood on it and some TT2s. Well, he invited me over to his place this weekend to find out that he bought a 68 z28 and is toying with the idea of selling the IROC.. He wanted to offer it to me first.

I totally restored the car and brought it back from the dead. Thousands of hours in it. I know that some of us have sold cars we regret selling and I am wondering if any of you had a chance to buy it back? I'm in the middle of a MkIII Supra project as well but i'm missing my third gen. Should I let her go or consider buying it back?

Thanks!

(here's a pic to refresh your memory on the car)

Re: Any of you buy back an old car?

I've heard too many people say how they much wish they hadn't sold their car and how much they miss it. And how much they wish they could buy it back. If you really miss the car and you can afford to buy it back, I'd say go for it.

Re: Any of you buy back an old car?

I bought mine back. Sold it to a woman at work who gave it to her son to drive. He decided to sell it after 3 yrs for something more economical and I offered to buy it back. Wasn't nearly in as good a shape as when I sold it, but I'm happy I did it. Since getting it back I've put quite a bit of money into suspension, steering, wheels and restoration parts.

Re: Any of you buy back an old car?

Thanks guys...

The main issue just happens to be money of course.. I have always wanted an IROC and this car was the one back when I was 16. It was totally trashed and took 2 years to restore. I brought it back from the dead, and sometimes I wish I still had it.

On the other hand, the Supra is a beautiful car as well and is the other car i've always wanted. I am kinda hoping that he decides to keep the car just a couple years more so i can have them both because I don't wanna choose..

I know what your opinion is though if it comes down between the Z or the Yota..

Re: Any of you buy back an old car?

My freind sold his 1969 cutlass a year ago to pay for school. It was 90% original, but it was bought and built for the strip in 1970 from factory at a speed shop. Only had 3 owners, my freind was the 3rd. It was getting tired, and rough, but for a 30 some year old car, it STILL pulled HARD.

The guy who bought it, just let it rot, cuz he wasnt happy with it, and was just treating it like ****, letting it rot.

He had just had to have it back. So he did after a year when he could afford it, and it was a good decision i think.

If you miss your car, and u dont like the idea of how others treat it, get it back.

Especially being the car you fixed up and drove in high school... there must be a ton of sentimental value to you. I'd go for it.

Re: Any of you buy back an old car?

I would kill to have my old camaro back. I would get the car back even if it just sat in a garage some where.

I never actually let it go either. My parents moved across the country and my car was in the shop and gave two weeks to get my *** in gear. They did say they would get my car back for me but never did. Now I am married and have an empty garage waiting for a good deal to come my way.

Well, so far he has garaged it and really treated it well.. But he took out my custom shift **** in favor of a Hurst T-shifter.. and he was talking about putting stripes on it!!! No offense to you striped guys, but I don't believe in an IROC with stripes.. 91-92 looks excellent, but you won't change my mind on my car staying stripe-less!

These kind of things make you not to ever want to see it again, or buy it back and save it.. This would be the second time and i almost feel obligated..

Re: Any of you buy back an old car?

My wife bought her RS twice, she had purchased it for $2500 with her fiance in late summer of 2000. He was killed in an on the job accident shortly after new years of 2001. The car was in his name, and his mother would not even consider selling/giving her the car, she told her that should she want to sell it to give her a call.

In July of 2001 a friend had taken a wrong turn and ended up on some back road about 50 miles from her home and there was her old RS on a used car lot with $4995! on the windshiled.

She called three or four rinky dink used buy here pay here lots in the area because the guy that saw the car could not remember the name of the place. She finally found the right place, told them here srory, and also that there was no way a '91 RS with a V6 and 170,000 miles on it was worth that much. She got them to take $2500 for it, they admitted the car was consigned to them (by the mother) and that there was no way the car was worth the nearly five grand they wanted for it. They did not tell the seller that my wife was the person they were selling it to, since for some reason the woman that was nearly her mother in law did not want her to have that car.

The car is in very solid, rust free but has it's share of third gen "personality" such as turn signals that don't cancel, a non working horn, broken AC, seat belts in the rear that won't latch with the child's car seats, and an oil leak. The rearend howls a bit, the 3.1 leaks a bit and has over 205,000 on it, but one touch of the key and it fires up every time.

I bought a hardtop, LB9/T5 '88 Iroc in 2005, did a bunch of bolt ons and free mods to it, had some fun. Sold it back to the guy I bought it from a couple weeks ago 'cuz I hardly drove it anymore, needed money and time to finish other things, and he just kept bugging me.

Re: Any of you buy back an old car?

There's 2 cars that I've let go and I wish I still had them. A maroon '89 IROC-Z hardtop and a blue '90 IROC-Z hardtop, G92 5spd.

I'd really like to get that '90 back and daily drive it, but it's in Houston now so I'll never see it again. The maroon one was bought by a local kid going to college here. He put it into a mailbox a few weeks after he bought it and hasn't fixed the chipped paint yet. I'd like to buy it back and repaint the bumper but I doubt he'd sell it back.

Re: Any of you buy back an old car?

I almost bought back my 92 RS I was so close, but I decided that I put enough work into it, and my friend I sold it to beat the pi$$ outta it, and decided it wasnt even worth buying back plus Im happy with my IROC, which I will never evr part with so although I may not have my first car ever again I will never sell the iroc which is what I wanted to begin with
