Painting in South Carolina

Perhaps this is not a good area to post this in, but I am going to be looking for Paint for my 92 soon. I live in the Columbia, SC area and was wondering if anyone else from SC or the surrounding Columbia, SC area has had their third GEN ta/camaro/bird painted and by who. Was there any fancy jobs done? Is there anyone that you guys would recommend in the area? My bodywork is almost perfectly done now, with the exception of a few small things like blocking and prepping the car for the paint, so there should be very little cost as to bodywork is concerned.

Anyways, anyone got any good recommendations? im looking for a painter that is reliable, honest, quick, and exceptionally good. After all It is going back factory color, but i want something else more too.

thanks for all your input.

hey, sorry no answer to yer question but just like to comment i'm also in the SC area (near charleston actually), know of anyone else from sc? i don't see much 3rd gen activity around here. my car got painted in anderson and looks real good (the owner before me had it painted), only some minor scratches and small problems, but its not due to the body shop that did it, from stupid ppl who like to play with my car, anyways, i can ask the person i bought my car from if he has any good SC paintshop info for where to get yer car painted.

(mine turned out well) If you need any other recommendations for other work, email me at reamj@clemson.edu , i know the places to go for good quality work

I live in SC. (I go to Clemson Univ. too) Anyway, there are some really good body shops around the Greenville area, but you probably don't want to drive this far. The shop I had the fender on my Camaro fixed done a real good job at a fair price. There is another body shop that said they done show cars, and they told me over the phone that they were real expensive. Sorry if this isn't much help.

yea greenville is a bit far, but have you ever been to Carolina Rod Shop up that way??? its visible from I85, goin towards clemson. If not check it out, they do all the old school stuff and a lot of new school stuff. I'd love to have them shoot the car, but i just dont have 30,000.00 for a paint job alone.

I had my car painted by Chuck Engle at Elite Paint and Body in Swansea. They are very quick and his original paint was very nice. However, six months later I was sideswiped by some clown and I had them do the body work and repainting. I was not real thrilled with the repair work. Chuck is usually very good at fixing anything you are not happy with. I could probably take it back and he would square it away.

Sorry to deviate from the original topic, but which body shop(s) around Greenville are you talking about? I'm looking for a new body shop that does good work and doesn't try to screw me over (fair pricing would be nice too ). Was the place you got your work done fairly quick?

The place I got my car fixed at was Cannon auto body. I think they just moved to a new building in Fountain Inn. The guy had to fix a dent in my rear quarter, painted the entire quarter, bumper, part of the top, and some of the door. It was only there a week, and he was the cheapest of any of the shops I went to. He also done a real good job. I talked to him about painting the whole thing because I was wanting to later. He told me he would do all the body work (not much needed) sand it, and two stage paint for less that $2000. Nothing special, just factory white. He said it would be glass smooth, and judging from his cars I believe him. He had a 1st gen Camaro, and a 2nd gen Firebird that looked awesome. His partner had a 4th gen camaro with a custom paint job that looked good too. He also had a 70ish Challenger and an old Chevelle he was getting ready to paint, so I assume he knows what he is doing.

Yes, that was us. The car is running pretty strong for having 170,000 miles on it. I just put the new Intellitronix digital dash in, it looks pretty sweet, but I need to ground it better. I am getting some strange readings. Oh well, what the heck.

thats great, Im still having cooling issues. I found out yesterday that i was. I Just got the car back from my friend that was doing the body work and remoiving my door handles and front fender turn signals. Its body is almost perfect now which makes me very happy. Door Poppers are awesome. Im glad that dash is workin out for you. I thought about doing a digital dash, but theres already so much electronic garbage in my car i dont think it would be a good idea. In fact today im going to rip out most of the interrior in preperation of new carpet and what not.

Getting back on topic of good shops, I have heard a lot about 2 in the local lex area. 1. Richard Wrights body shop
and 2. Knight Enterprises. Ive talked to both people, and i got 2 types of gut feelings, for #1 i got the feeling of a true customizer and hot rodder that enjoys painting and being creative, and for #2 I got the feeling of a custom painter that has been sidelined by insurance jobs, and would rather work on insurance claims than do a custom car now so he can make money. Not that his quality is bad, but just didnt get the warm fuzzy feeling you get when you walk into a real hot rodders shop.
Sides #1 showed me all different types of his work while #2 didnt.

what you all think?

I have heard good things about Richard Wright. I don't know if you remember seeing a 1999 Black Z-28 with SS hood parked next to my car when we played ball out at Oak Grove. That car was Cam Crouch's and it was a sweet ride. It had to be repainted twice by Richard because people kept keying it and once because of an accident. I beleive he purchased the SS hood from him also. He always seemed to do a good job. Cam was a super picky bee-atch and he was satisfied.

Edin,
I used to hot rod when I lived in Summerville. I dealt a lot with Bouchillion performance and he had a friend who owned a paint shop. This guy did several show cars, his name was Chalis Something or other. Randy Bouchillion would know. He has a shop in Charleston somewhere near Remount Road. Sorry it is so vague, I am just trying to offer what little information I can.
