Not sure I like the DTM style flares but for the rest, that's awesome. Going to follow this one.

Looks like it's going to be a pro street type of car with a Vette front suspension. Nice, but boring...

I especially like the appearance of the car with the wheels/tires mocked up. Cool to see a 'name' messing with a thirdgen.

Re: rad rods by troy is building a thirdgen

I would like to know more about the engine they are using . The block I know is a Dart Iron Eagle but the heads look like in the pictures to be Brodix with SBC head bolt pattern and BBC Oval ports . I wonder if it will use a SBC intake or a BBC intake because in the pictures it looks wider with the heads on than a regular SBC .

My first thought too.

How many people do you see going T-Top to Hartop?

That's the only thing I dislike about my current thirdgen, the Hardtop, but with teh Turbo Buick I didn't wanna take any chances.

all this hardtop bashing, my 86 has t-tops, the 92 is a hardtop, i truly hate the t-tops. They are cool at first, but the intrest fades fast. I really wish my 86 was a hard top, but im not about to cut the roof off.

Lets not turn this into hard top vs t-top. Nobody will convince the other side that they should like the other.

OMG! That is freakin awesome! Wow, the amount of work, and the quality of that work is simply amazing! It's awesome to watch a true master build/modify that car from the ground up. The dtm style of the car is going to be one for the record books! Can't wait until it's finished.

I see no point in hacking up that car so that pretty much nothing left when it seemed to be in such good shape to begin with.

Why did they bother converting it to a hardtop? At this point there's more sheet metal from teh hardtop donor car on it than metal that car ahd from the factory.

It's gonna be a nice car, but given all the stuff they're planning for it I dont think it's really a thirdgen at heart anymore, as ridiculous as that sounds.

You're right, that does sound ridiculous. Our cars need more attention, and this is the best way to get it! I don't understand why so many people are against 'hacking up" a thirdgen? Cars are meant to be modified, and this is the best possible version of extreme modification. If I had the money, I would definitely have my car built by one of these talented builders.

Re: rad rods by troy is building a thirdgen

I am all for hacking up a car, but the choices they are making seem a little ridiculous. I agree, why not start with a hard top car, they are not that hard to find, I have 2 of them. If you are hacking the car up that much, why not tuck the tires into the body, instead of making the wide body flares? just my opinion. btw, what are those "puck" things for that they set into the chassis in the last few pics? Don't get me wrong, I love the fact that a big name is doing a 3rd gen, I would just go in a slightly different direction. Also I love those huge tires.

That didnt look like a LSX block to anybody? The valley didnt have lifter bores and had the 2 ports for knock sensors and similar intake bolt pattern. Just my observation.

Because the wider the stance(further out the wheels are,) the better the turning traction.

When you see the finished product, I think you'll change your mind. BTW, those aren't anything like the pizza cutters they use on pimp my ride. Those are some huge meats front and back. Wonder what size they are.

[quote=CharcoalBird;4281584]Because the wider the stance(further out the wheels are,) the better the turning traction.

True, but the car would have to leave the trailer and actually get on the track to need it. I hope it does, I hate trailer queens. But in this case I think it is more about bragging rights, "look how much I changed things, it used to have t-tops and I made it a hardtop."

Why is your car the way "YOU" like it? Same reason the guys had flares done to his. "ITS WHAT HE WANTS."

Thats deff. a nice piece of art work. Should be nice when done.

Doesn't matter if he needs it or not, if he actually takes the car off the trailer and races it rather than shows. It's what the owner wanted. Some cars if done right look better/more aggressive with the flares. Look forward to seeing the finished product and if he does take it out, see what it can do.

Re: rad rods by troy is building a thirdgen

That is what I said, "I hope he does." I think I am not clear, I love that they are building a 3rd gen, it can only help the cause. I was just saying that it is not what I would build. I LOVE every car they have built, and I love 3rd gens. How can I not love this car? It is still in the build stage, so it will look different when finished. I have just seen far too many 3rd gens that look like crap. And again, this is just my little opinion. Not meant to start anything. No one can deny the fact that these cars get a bad rap. I do my best to change that. You can either help or hurt, I hope I only help, but I do see how negative comments look. For that I am sorry to whoever. Ok I am done now.

Yes, and Stephen posted a picture of them above. I don't think they use anything bigger than a 245 on pimp my ride.......those tires are at least 295's just for the fronts. Here is another shot of the rears.

Re: rad rods by troy is building a thirdgen

ok i think that car is freekin awesome, but not hard to do, its a simple matter of having the right tools to do the work, the fabrication looks good but not flawless yet, the mock up of the ground effects looks cool, i had it in my head to do something like that when i did my car, but like i said you need the right tools,i cant wait to see the finished peace, im sure it will be cool.

Re: rad rods by troy is building a thirdgen

not to bust yer balls, i dont know your fabrication background, but there is alot more then "just having the proper tools" to achieve the results they have. there is an art to metal work, and not just anyone can take the right tools and materials, and turn it into the caliber of craftsmanship they have. i know i cant, but pratice makes perfect.
the hardtop seam with no filler is freakin flawless. some cant even get filler that smooth.

Yet, i'm surprised so many people are giving negative input on their work. I think they are doing an amazing and extensive job on the whole project so far. Excellent craftsmanship.
