how much to save?

ok i need to know how much money i should try to keep for emergency situations? like say a leaking radiator, blown gaskets, tire blowouts, windshields etc. also how much should i expect to save for stuff like hood struts, weatherstripping, etc? reason why im asking is because this is goina be my daily driver for a good 4yrs atleast mostly for around town but also occasional couple 100 mile trips. thanks.

Just save enough, its not a Lamborghini parts are usually availible and as things get broken fix them as you go.

I say 300. That way if anything happens you'll be semi prepared without breaking the bank. If you really wanted to be safe go higher, but 300 is my minimum.

I think this is a personal finance kind of question. Everyone is going to give you a different answer on your question. I've always tried to have what I call a "financial cushion," meaning if I have something that financially tries to knock me down the financial cushion will soften the fall and the checkbook won't be in the red. Obviously, the bigger cushion you have, the less it will hurt. I don't live from paycheck to paycheck. I wouldn't recommend just saving either, learn to invest.

My opinion is that the minimum to save would be enough to buy another car in the same condition as the one you have or enough to buy both a replacement engine and tranny. Prepare for the worst and it won't be near as bad when it does happen.
